W.A.R., it depends on the person really. Most of the people who do complain about the PVE, made the mistake of picking a PvP focused game, and then expected it to have PVE the likes of WoW. There are some issues that still persist, but as i said in another post well... here ill just post the link to what i said there http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/274030/page/5 , this might give you a better perspective on things as far as whats been improved and whats still improving.
Also the Producer's Letter i mentione din that post refers to the one right before the current letter, apparently a new one was put up today too.
Anyway, one thing youll need to realize too is that a lot of the people commenting about the state of the game havent even played the game since the first few months it was out, or maybe up to 6 months or so ago. There have been more changes since then as well. As far as end game goes, well that depends on what youre there for. Theres plenty of people who like the endgame stuff, they just wont be posting much about it because theyre busy ingame rather than trolling forums of games they dont or never have played. Granted it could use some improvements, but its not as horrible as many try to make it out to be. As they turn end game more towards RvR and further away from PvE, as well as increasing the RvR rewards, things will get better. The biggest problem with the end game IMO is the fact that they made the whole game about PvP as you progressed, but then you get to end game and need to complete stupid PVE goals in order to do meaningful PVP. Theyre phasing that out though and focusing city sieges more on the PVP aspect, making it 100% PvP/RvR influenced, rather than relying on people succesfully completing PvE tasks..
only problem is, most of those changes were plain B A D. especially the ******* up balance changes, resist caps ftL
but hell, this game deserves its fate. I just hope some *gurus* realize, that listening to the community is a bit different listening to 10 year olds whos idea of PVP is hitting one button.
I'm glad this re-review came up since I thought of joining WAR again. I'm choosing between WoW and WAR and I know a lot of people will disagree but I find WAR to be better. I tried a trial account of WoW a couple of months back and that game just feels like time wasted in moving from one area to another and more boring quests than I can remember. Every place and quest I put my hands on feels to me like saying "are we there yet?"
I've tried the endless trial last week and I thought that it was a blast and old memories popped in why I enjoyed this game so much, I quit the game before the server consolidation and before the realm consolidation as well which might mean that there are now more players in the empire and chaos world more than any other and I think that is good. You can;t fix everything together and since this game seems to be going on the right track with all the fixes I'm subscribing again.
I do agree that this game needs an expansion and that is what disappoints me, but rationalizing it the developers want to fix everything first before pouring more content, at least the $15 that people shell out monthly is going somewhere rather than stop all the patch improvements and put it into one big expansion.
The news for new classes is also a relief as its been 1.5 years already and people want to see somehting new than just the same old stuff all over again. I hope that when things get fixed we'll finally have 1 expansion a year or something.

Hmmm....... just wondering how can you be so sure that they listen to comments of 10 year olds? I think people will notice if a 10 year old writes a comment in forums by way of diction and how they phrase their words, and I doubt that the devs who read them will take those messages seriously.
If you've been playing the game I doubt you'll shoot it as much, but if your comments are based on other people's opinions then its not helping the game. Perhaps your comments and opinions should be more constructive and objective so other people can also make their own opinion about it.
I don't like bashing a game unless it thoroughly deserves it and if you have been following WAR's development you can see a patch is released almost every other month after they consolidated the servers (which is a good move by the way since the only way you can increase the population is by moving the less occupied servers into the bigger capped servers). They're doing something about the game and its a good thing a lot of players are still subscribing.
I stopped playing because I'm waiting for an expansion pack, or something like it which has new characters, etc. but that's just me. Each time they patch they add in new content because, and I would like to believe, that they want to give the subscribers new content without them having to pay another USD 30 for a huge expansion so they give it in bits and pieces.
Is that bad? To me who wants big new contents it might be, but if I was continually subscribing then I probably will be happy to what is being given with my subscription.
I would assume that you've already tried the game past level 10 before posting your comment?

The thing is that warhammer and wow are different games and offer a slightly different experience. Still, I"m not exactly clear on the whole battlegrounds experience in wow so maybe someone can just hit a button and queue up for one just like in warhammer.
WoW is a far more polished game and offers far more to do.
However, there is something about warhammer and it's tongue in cheek classes that really don't fit together that sort of makes it.
For me I play warhammer so that I can jump into pvp and with a character that I love which is my swordmaster.
I just love how it plays. Sometimes it shines, sometimes "not so much" but it makes sense to me. And that is an important factor for me.
As for wow? Well, it's a good game, very polished and has a lot to offer. For some reason it just comes off as a bit too cute for my taste so I have problems sticking with it. That's my loss I suppose because it seems that the players are having loads of fun, Blizzard has their yearly shindig, and it is a vocal and large community with a well funded game.
But oh well.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
so many of the "complaints" being made here are so crap and untrue it is funny, reading all these comments make me wish, peopel would retry a game and confirm things haven't changed before making complete fool of themselves wasting hours on a long rant with so many untrue facts and accusations.
BTW to the Reviewer, I am not sure what server you played, but City Sieges happen every day, in Gorfang we hit the Invitable City 2 times almost every Evening EST time, so not sure where you got that information that City Sieges do not happen often,,,,if anything some people boycott City Sieges complaining they happen too often....
Mhh - on the german servers there are no ghost cities ... maybe thats an US problem. The guild taverns are always full of ppl ^^
I think there is enough solo content in the game. But i think that random warband RvR is a form of solo content too. From 1 to 40 you can play solo if you want, but then you have to ask yourself "is a mmo the right genre for me?" - I play MMOs because i dont have to play alone. There are millions of better singleplayer games out there than any MMO, so why wasting time with SP content in a MMO?
And imho the end content is good and enough with Lost Vale, City Instances, Keep attacks or the small tombs and the instace of the vulture lord in Land of the Dead.
But you should review WAR now with 1.3.6, but the new city siege end-content is a great improvment!
The balancing is still not the best (still to high AoE damage), but with a nice group you will have fun.
And the point with the monthly subscribtion ... crap games like Champions Online or Star Trek Online cost the same - and feature an item shop ^^ But maybe it could pay off for Mythic when the bring special offers like Lord of the rings - "subscribe for 3 month for only 29,99$/€".
That could bring some ppl back or attract new ones.

There is one major flaw with WAR in its current form: not true to the tabletop game. The WAR universe has a slew of diverse races, all of which has shown little interest in aligning with another. The whole idea of WAR is every man for himself. In W40K this is especially evident. I'm trying the endless trial, but to be honest, I tend to be a solo player and EQ2 is pulling me in at this point.
This game had a lot of potential to be one of the greatest mmorpg's of all time. But I knew they had blown it when they pushed the release date ahead out of nowhere instead of taking their time and refusing to release it until it's actually ready like GOOD game developers do. When it comes to mmorpgs, you never push the release date ahead, that's just not a good sign when it comes to this genre. These are absolutely the most difficult kinds of games to develop. That being said, this is still a pretty good mmo but they kept it from being superb. I definitely enjoy this game, it's a lot of fun. I love the look of the world and everything in it, it's like World of Warcraft's graphics style but more amped up and a bit more realistic giving it a totally unique feel. I love all the races and the fact that they all have their own different classes. The PQ's are great and the RvR is intense. The only problem is that they totally sacrificed one mmorpg aspect to make the other superb. If only they had given WAR a PvE aspect it deserved and as good as it's PvP(RvR), then this would have been one of, if not THE best mmorpg on the market. But they chose to rush it to the store shelves so its not. All in all, I wouldn't call it an average game, but I would definitely say it's a good game. Judge this how you want, but this is coming from a non-biased player. Anyways, there's always Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millennium Online to look forward to, but I dunno, Orcs with guns just doesn't seem right to me, but maybe that'll be what makes it great. I'll keep playing and enjoying WAR for now, but once Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out it's bye-bye birdie.
This game dies on several fronts that were just terrible, terrible design decisions:
1) PvP with just 2 factions instead of at least 3. Once one side starts dominating, the other side logs off, making the winners even more dominating, and eventually the losing side just quits the game or goes to another server. The server becomes a ghost town and eventually the winners get bored and quit.
2) Terrible in-game class balancing. With all the comments they made about how classes would be balanced, nothing could be further from the truth. It was terrible as PBAOE Bright Wizards could just mow-down anything. Stacking pit of shades at a keep was insta-death for attackers. Group heals far better than single-target heals (making healers press the same button the entire fight). It was so bad you had to laugh.
3) Lots of people complained about lack of stability. I never had a problem, but lot of people in my guild did.
4) City seiges that were more about PvE than PvP. Doing a city seige and you're in an instance where there are only 10 defenders and 60 attackers, while another instance has 60 defenders and 10 attackers. Brilliant!
5) Crafting sucked. It did eliminate needless grinding, but I just don't think it delivered for crafters.
6) If you had to solo in PvE, you were hating life in this game from level 30-40.
7) They then go the ToA (Trials of Atlantis, the infamous DAOC expansion) route and introduced overly powerful weapons if you do some PvE in a new zone. My entire 50+ guild quit 2 weeks after the launch of that zone expansion. We saw ToA version 1.0 and didn't want to see it again.

Actually, that would be fine if it were true to the roleplaying game (who was released a year after fantasy battles). Both those games would work perfectly even if the RPG game (who actually were made into a MMO but got cancel half way in) would have been a PvE game while fantasy battles works best as a PvP game.
But the RPG also were built on co operation, thta was everything there. It had horror and were a lot more adult themed than WAR.
