    EvE for 6 years.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

This question caused the ol' brain to stutter a bit while trying to think on it.  For the past three or so years, I have bounced around so many different games where I resub and immediately cancel so I am not automatically charged the following month.  I might play two to three weeks if that, before I uninstall the games again.  I think it has been rare that I resub/cancel for the next month.  This means that I have accounts that go back ten years or more, but for the life of me I could not begin to state how much time any of them have actually been subbed to for... I have not really done the continuous sub of more than a couple of years since UO and WoW at the start.  Like I said, lol, for the most part no game has had me continuous sub at all in the past several years (no, wait - I think I did sub Eve for two months, though I quit about a week into the second month)...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Asheron's Call for 6 years, longer if you count beta.  I would still be playing had I not moved and now have a well known AC network protocol issue that will not allow me to connect to the game.

UO from shortly after release for about 2,5 years.

LOTRO since release/beta which makes that close to 3 years at this point but I haven't really played since the SoM expac.

    AO for about 3 years.

    SWG for about 2 years

Fallen Earth will probably be on this list at some point as well.

There are a myriad of other games I have played but usually don't make it much more than a year.

Dark Ages (by Nexon) - 2 years straight, no breaks

World of Warcraft - Since launch on and off

Everquest 2 - Since launch on and off

    Those would be the longest.

Well, my total Lineage 2 paid game time is 4 years 3 months.

Lotro since closed beta though I have taken breaks when things would wind down a few months prior to an expansion.

Those are the only really notable "long term" games that I've played.

I'm not really into mmo hopping and would be satisfied to play one from now until I no longer want to play games. However they don't seem to wear well over the span of years and I find that expansions tend to be "let's just add on something neat" as opposed to an actual effort to expand the game in a way that makes sense to the world that was created.

Having said that I always like to try all of these games even if I don't intend to play for a long time.

    EQ - 4 years

    EQ2 - 3 years

Everything else I've tried has lasted less than a year.

The longest running single subscription, or the greatest accumulated time subscribed, or what?

Because I've never maintained a single subscription for more than five months (the five months being for EverQuest), yet since 2003 I've paid for at least 26 months of EVE and logged at least 2100 hours.

I think I've played a few MMOs for over a year, but not over two.

I'm not currently subscribed to a MMO right now, but I'm looking!

  • deftskulkdeftskulk Member CommonPosts: 67

    AO for 2 or 3 years .

    Eve for about a year.

Now I just float around different MMOs for about a month.

I did a stint on Megaten for about about three months, but F2Ps end up costing more than they are worth.

Hoping WoDo will turn out to be good when I check it out, other than that, I think I'll end up giving up on MMOs in general.

I've only played the 5 MMOs I listed, over a period of 11 years. I sometimes wonder if that's why I am still fairly enthusiastic about the MMO genre as a whole.

Over 2 years. SWG from day 1 to NGE. Never have been subbed to an MMO for more than a month after that since none have been worth my money.

On a side not, I did play Guild Wars for a few years and enjoyed the PvP a lot. Now the game's full of big ego hardcore players making it hard to find a good guild.

Longest would have to be DAoC.  Starting with Beta I played it for I think 6 years and this was uninterupted subscription.  Next would probably be WoW with intermitent 6 month stints every time a new expansion drops but nothing ever came close to DAoC.  Since DAoC I've hopped around various games and none of them ever lasted longer then a month or 2.  Doesn't seem like that trend will stop any time soon either.  Come to think of it I've not played an MMO for almost 9 months now.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    WoW - 2 years

    AoC - 14 months

WAR - 18 months in June and going to continue until SWTOR so it should be 2 years and 2-4 months

Well, the way I look at it is that when I was young the internet didn't exist, there was no cable and there were no video games.

then pong hit and soon after, the atari console with space invaders and pacman.

Compared to my old atari these games are beyond imagining. So It's all good to me. I guess I approach them like arcade games. I have fun until I'm no longer interested and then I find something else to spend my quarters on. image

Star Wars Galaxies 4+ years (includ.beta period till NGE) + 8 months back in 2007

World of WarCraft off and on for about a 1 year

Since then have bought most MMORPG's that where released the last few years but only untill I came in contact with Fallen Earth I finaly found my MMORPG that is sticking with me since release, which has been 6 months now (excl. my beta time of 4 months), already played that more then my off/on year in WoW. All the other MMORPG just didn't do it for me longer then a few weeks/months. Though I did start with meridian59 but can't really recall how long I've played that, but know it wasn't that long really, same with UO which was also not that very long played, SWG really introduced MMORPG to me the way I hoped this genre would evolve into.

EverQuest - 8 years, & enjoyed almost all of them.

EQ was my second MMO, I tried UO first but I found that I didn't enjoy the isometric viewpoint at all, it didn't give me the immersion I wanted, & I haven't ruled out going back.

FFXI- 42 months (Give or take a month or two)

War- 18 months (Easily would've been ALOT LOT less, if a good group of friend's didn't play it)

    Vanguard- 12months

  • MazinMazin Member Posts: 640

SWG - launch to NGE, so thats just under 2.5 years

WoW - total time maybe 1.5 years, I've been on and off again with this game so many times.  6 months was around my longest with it in classic.
