When I start a scan with MSE it says: Acess denied. soooo
never happened to me are you sure you updated with microsoft update first
because if your copy is legit only thing preventing it would be if it doesnt detect the proper info needed(witch is avail only to the latest ,they update that every month.updating your os with ms update should fix your issue with mse(im always assuming your copy is legit here, but you lost cd no biggy as long as you kept the code to activate it)
if you still have issue with M.S.E
it doesnt necessarly means your copy is not legit it just means a reinstall is in order
if you do? do a clean install best way is to borrow a copy of the os you use then when ms ask for their code for the os
just enter yours(you did keep these right!)
once reinstalled install mse first make it scan dont reinstall any old program you had just delete those and start fresh(this is for w7 64 bit, since i dont recall how window 2000 works)but usually install are pretty straight forward keep nothing cfully clean install and you should be fine if you chose to reinstall!
go get them on the web, like ati etc the whole 9 yard
make sure before reinstalling os that your bios is the latest one (usually updatable with a diskette3.5 inch)
Definitely a trojan. Easiest way to thoroughly fix this is gonna be to back up your Documents folder and anything else you want to save, then reformat the hard drive. After you get Windows reinstalled you can just virus scan the files you backed up. If you can't format it from the Windows install disk for some reason I'd just download Ubuntu iso and boot off that then format your hard drive.
If you didn't already buy the Vista upgrade you were talking about I would just buy Win 7 instead, either upgrade or full. Not sure if Win 2k qualifies for the upgrade version but you can install Win 7 upgrade onto a clean drive anyway unlike Vista upgrade. You can also get Win 7 for $68 with a .edu email. Also you can download the legit Win7 iso here run in trial mode, might come in handy.
If you don't want to format then I would download HijackThis, Sysinternal's Procexp, Malwarebytes and NoD32/Avast/AVG. Use HijackThis to remove startup programs that shouldn't be there and delete those files. Usually the files will be in use and undeletable so use Procexp to identify processes that sound unusual (they usually are hosting the trojan), kill the process and delete the file.
Once you get enough of them removed manually you should be able to run Malwarebytes and the anti-virus software you downloaded.
If formating is not an option you need to try and get a clean boot. Try and find an iso repair disc image somewhere that has some cleanup tools included. Burn it to CD and boot from that. Thats if safemode aint doing it.. I have had good results with spybot search and destroy when others have failed in the past.
Format your hard drive or pay someone that knows what they are doing to either fix it for you or format it for you. You are never going to be able to do this on your own with just people on a forum trying to walk you through it. At this point you shouldn't even be connected to the internet anymore anyhow... The bottom line is, you're either going to spend the money to have someone competant take care of it for you, or spend the money to get it formatted and everything reinstalled correctly, or you're going to have to brick your PC and buy a new one.

Currently I'm using spyware doctor, and I just tried to open it and... Everything and all the antivirus has been turned of and I can't turn them back on, I would never intentionally turn them of.
I cant decide if you are trolling or not.
But on the off chance that you are not --- If your antivirus is turned off, you didnt do it, and you are unable to run any antivirus program you are infected with multiple spyware programs. Unplug your network cable when you read this. Then put your windows DVD/CD in and reinstall from scratch, wiping your system. If you dont know how to do it, unplug your network cable, and dont plug it back in, not even for 5 minutes, until you can get someone over to your house to do it for you.
If you dont do this and you lose something you have only yourself to blame. As far as I or anyone else on this board who knows computers can tell you, this is probably the best advice you are going to get. If you dont follow it IMO please throw your computer into the garbage as you shouldnt have one.
Unless your computer is fixed, you should not waste time responding to my post. Just unplug the damn network cable and start doing what you should be doing. Im not interested in arguments. If your computer is fixed, great. If not, dont waste my time or anyone elses talking about the problem. Ive told you, and some other users have told you as well what to do. You know what to do. Do it.
I know what it is. Your compluter is possessed. To fix it you will need to have a catholic priest do an exorcism on your pluter. IF that doesnt work, then the only other explanation is that ur pluter is under control of a witch doctor. For that youll have to look for anti-voodoo stuff.

There are other ways to get rid of the trojan, they are just harder to do.
It is very common that viruses or Trojans disable the antivirus, the more evil of them pretends that everything works.
In many cases do actually an online scanner fix the problem (well, in about 1 in 3 based on my experience). Installing a new antivirus (even offline) might or might not help, it depends on how much crap that has infected the computer. Some stuff just screws then installment too.
My advice is to try an online scan first (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/), if that doesn't help it is probably time to call in someone good at computers or possibly to backup the most important files (and tro to avoid .exe files and anything you are not sure about), format the entire harddrive and the reinstall windows. Do not put in the backup disc until you have a working and updated antivirus/firewall.
This thread is hilarious. I stopped at page 4, did he ever admit to doing something he shouldn't have and got some script kiddie wanna be hacker in his system or not?
Cause, uhhhhh that sounds exactly like what happened.
Wow man that is weird, but atlest whatever is going on you may have found some new good music to listen to. Never heard of those guys but I digg their style. But I hope you figure things out soon.

Yes there are plenty of other ways. However after a few posts from this user I concluded that posting any alternatives was simply fuel for the fire, as the fool would continually hop back on to MMORPG.com and post away trying to get "advice." It was this behavior that made me wonder if he was trolling, tbh --- because I know 6 year olds with more computer sense. Since the OP exhibited no computer know how whatsoever I opted for the less confusing, and most confident approach to ridding him of his problem.
The other way would have him changing file names to winlogon.exe, navigating through program files directories, and asking questions for days whenever any failure came up.

Can i ask you for what reason you think i'm completely computer illeterate, I built the computer and it works surely that says something.
Anyway I ran AVG and it removed Generic.Trojan I think that's got it as I haven't experienced any of the symptons recently.

You should still run HijackThis and post a report to make sure everything is cleaned up, AVG will nail trojans and viruses but not spyware and spyware can put a trojan right back on there.

The why is because your computer seems to posess its own personality, but yet you are still online with it. Should you have a trojan, youre essentially allowing people free access, and doing so for what -- so you can ask for computer advice on this forum? That strikes me as very backward thinking.
Perhaps you just dont have anything of value on your system. You dont bank, dont really have any gaming accounts of great worth, and dont really feel the need to keep your email and other information secure. The only type of people I know of who fit into that category are children and drug addicts. I hope your not the latter!
For the record... Generic.Trojan is likely a label AVG slapped on something it didnt understand. This is the category your infection fell under:
"This is a trojan detection. Unlike viruses, trojans do not self-replicate. They are spread manually, often under the premise that they are beneficial or wanted. The most common installation methods involve system or security exploitation, and unsuspecting users manually executing unknown programs. Distribution channels include email, malicious or hacked web pages, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), peer-to-peer networks, etc."
That being said, until you remove the source of the Trojan it will likely keep reappearing, as its install script more than likely linked into an executable file you run often. While this infection is removed, run the source program again and the infection will reappear.
Considering the active nature of the link between your computer and the outside world, I would excercise more care.
Since youve opted for the antivirus route, try the following:
www.malwarebytes.org
This program aggressively hunts out malware infections on your computer. Run a full scan, and you may find your source file. It may take a very long time.
Can i ask you for what reason you think i'm completely computer illeterate, I built the computer and it works surely that says something.
Anyway I ran AVG and it removed Generic.Trojan I think that's got it as I haven't experienced any of the symptons recently.
I think you are a troll because anyone even slightly computer literate with this issue would have disconnected their internet immedietly, began reformatting and used another PC to go and change every single one of their passwords without coming to a forum and making a topic with a rediculous title.

yours is probably 32 bit.let me check if they have a specific version for w2000
crap your out of luck!

vista
window 7 are supported
so forget mse for w2000
you ll have to find another free antivirus!
