I remember when they first announced Eq2 and all the grand plans they had for it and watched it all get cut and tosses away anyone rem, ember that ?> lol the old pc gamer articles with the soe devs oh yes ships will be in Eq2 that will be player owned and in some zones Eq1 players and eq2 players will be able to play together was crazy all the stuff they promised at first.
I think the most dissapointing thing about Eq2 is how ugly the armor is how it all l;ooks the same form 1-90 with lil variation.THey spent all that time with the grapohics engine which at that time was a beast then did that to the armor aspect of it one of the most important things in a mmog still blows my mind lol
Personally, I think Sony needs to stop throwing money at this game in the way of new expansions. EQ III (Everquest Next) is in the works, and that's where they need to put their greater efforts.
EQ3 is NOT in the works. A new game by SOE is in the works, but it will not be EQ related.
As far as "throwing money" at it, you have totally different development teams. Stopping work on EQ2 will not help the other.
Umm yea thats real smartt considering EQ2 is more than likely the mmog they have that has the most subs and playerbase would be totally smart to stop devloping it watch it bleed subs for the next 1-2 years .
Wake up and smell the coffee, please. EQ2, like WOW, is a retirement home for maxed out characters. The low level game is dead. Dead. And has been for some time.
Throwing expansions at this game is a waste of money. Sony ought to attach a pared-down team to EQ2 for patches and minor updates, and start funneling its dollars towards "Everquest Next."
Do you really believe that when a new EQ comes out, folks will still hang out in EQ2?
Wow I am glad you dont work for soe, I love my eq2, its clear you hate it just dont mess it up for the rest of us who love it.
If I worked for SOE in any kind of significant capacity, you would be playing EQ3 right now. Wake up and smell the coffee. Soon, someday, you are going to realize the Heroic Opportunity Wheel doesn't have any more opportunities left.
Rofl, I mean that made me laugh EQ3. Do you not remember how EQ2 was suposed to replace EQ2 and shut down EQ. We all saw what happened with that mess. I really dont belive SOE will make that mistake again.
The mistake in EQ2 was in execution, not because it was a sequel.
There are posts on the internet, and an interview or two of Smedley, discussing "Everquest Next" and how it's a big top secret MMO. My guess is they'll expand the platform beyond PC, but I cannot imagine it not being an MMO.
Do you really think EQ2 is going to "thrive" (different than "survive") forever? It's an old game that had a shaky start. A dying game, in my opinion.
However, WOW is sort of in its autumn too, so I think the stage is set for a AAA MMORPG entry, and I hope it's EQ3 (Everquest Next). Sony could seize the MMORPG crown once again, unless they screw it up and make their MMO too retarded and gamey.

Yes I do agree it was pourly done. We had sever merges after luanch because of it. The game started of kind of not well. There were lots of issues. I admit by the time we hit kunar the game was shining, now it does seam to be going down somewhat. I was hoping with Senteils fate xpac folks would come back, however I have not seen a huge increase. There are always the same folks in the chat channels. We actually grew the guild some the past few weeks as a lot of the smaller almot inactive guilds are finally falling.
EQ3 what can I say. It would be nice to have a new engine, new quests and new things to go and do. I played EQ and was one of the few who moved over to EQ2 who loved it.
I will have to quote Smeddly on this, omg I cant belive I said that. Smed actually said as long as there are enough folks playing to keep the servers open they will. I cant find his post to link but he did say. All I have to do is point at SWG a total disaster by my reconing and yes I played that for a good number of years too, and look at EQ still going. I would guess that as long as the die hards are still playing EQ2 the servers will remain open.
Do some of the smaller ones need merged, maybee. However look at AB and others who have horible lag issues due to the crowd.
I think it would be nice if they offered free server transfers for folks wanting to leave the 4 smaller ones and move to a medium server but not the full ones.
