There feels like two sides all the time and with the original trilogy you felt like there was many different sides and the ones you were seeing are only part of it. For example in the new movies it feels like you can only be Sith of Jedi with all the schools and stuff. In the old movies the force felt much more magical and special. It felt like the force and wasn't tied down to these sides. I know them old movies had two sides against eachother, but you never felt restricted.
This is what I hate about SWTOR the most because I can't choose my own path, I can only fight for Sith or jedi. Tbh I'm pretty sure there is free will, so what if you want to use your powers for what you believe in? If I can't do that then I don't want to play the game because that isn't what Star Wars is about. Just what Lucas has made it into. What I loved about SWG cause it had freelance and you could tell your own tale before SOE ruined it.

SWTOR will not be SWG or anything like SWG.
I'd be willing to bet that the ONLY thing they have in common are being MMOs. And of course, the obvious Star Wars name infront of them..... but that doesn't really mean a whole lot anymore.

There are only two factions but the choice is how you play like; "I'm doing this for the greater good even if that means killing everyone doing it".
theres actually 3.......sith, independents, and republic...... evil, neutral, and good....Oh and they thought what your thinking already.......if you have even barely looked into the game the creators spicifically made so you dont have to choose a side....do your homework bro
Just because they only let you play as jedi and sith, doesn't mean they won't tell other non-player stories involving other factions of force users. Look at the latest planet they unveiled, a new planet and race of force users that aren't aligned with jedi or sith.

Never felt like there were more than two sides in classic Star Wars, it was very clearly Rebellion vs Empire and Good vs Evil.
Yes you had the independent factions, and those will be in TOR as well.
As for the mysterious nature of the force, I agree that was lacking in the prequels, but you'll be pleased to hear then, that BioWare is planning on really letting that shine through in the story.

This game won't be SWG at all, the only thing in common are a few names for the classes and Star Wars. I'm glad they are making class specific stories, with choices, SWG didn't have that. In fact, there were a lot of cookie cutter templates eventually made such as: Master Doc/Master TKM, Rifleman/Combat Medic etc.
I do hope you aren't on rails the entire progression of your character, but I am glad we get the added benefit of single player story telling in an MMO with multiple dialogue.
Let's just let SWG die please..

Lucas created Star Wars, so whatever he says Star Wars is...well thats what Star Wars is.

Mmm it's going to be heavily raid friendly I imagine, not at all Like SWG, They have begun banning people for insulting Insidia members now, so sort of a no brainer.

I once felt the way you do...but in the interveneing months, enough information has been revealed to calm my concearns about the game, and confirm that it WILL be an MMORPG in every sense of the word.
The line I find most telling in your post is "that isn't what Star Wars is about. Just what Lucas has made it into." While in some ways I can agree that some of the things that have happened with Star Wars are against what I consider better judgement you can't seperate the two, if there was no Lucas there is no Star Wars so while I may not agree with every chage Star Wars endures I can't begrudge what it has become because it is essentially what I asked for and that is the continuaton of the saga of that galaxy.
I can also say that I don't know what makes you so certain that a tone of neutrality will not be possible in SWTOR, atleast as much as it was in SWG which wasn't as fee in my eyes as you seem to remember.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
. No amount of PR backtracking can erase the fact that Bioware has come out and said that 95% of the game will be aimed at the solo player being able to complete. They even give you an NPC companion so that you don't have to group. And since they tote the story so much, and the story will only take place in scripted instances, the game will be almost entirely solo.

It's hard to believe that when people like Skyewauker moderate the boards. WHO just happens to be the Guild leader of OATH Gaming, a Large Raiding guild, who runs roughshod on the The old Republic forums, its hard to have any hope for this game.
Besides yourself, how many people care if you consider it an MMORPG or not? It's a game and perhaps if MMO doesn't serve you there are other flexible ways of thinking about it.
They shouldn't charge a monthly fee for a game that's not an MMO. Nor should they market it as an MMO.
We must have different definitions of the term then, because I'm 100% certain it is an MMO.

QFT. That would be the entire purpose of argumentation; argumentation is the pursuit of changing opinions of others.
1. The Hutts could easily be considered evil. Go look up more information on them. They are NOT a third faction, and they aren't neutral.
2. Cloud City is NOT a third faction, its a mining business and its only about making money.
3. Ewoks didn't even have a clue anyone off their planet even existed, and didn't particularly care either. They ignored the Empires existance and would have ignored the Rebellion if they were allowed to. But they helped the Rebellion, not the Empire, therefore they were on the Rebellions side.

Star Wars is about good vs evil, not neutrality. There is no "third option".
None of those are factions. That's like playing a game about the Cold War, but instead of playing as the USA or the Soviets, you get to play as Uganda.

Not true in TOR. There is neutrality though the "neutral" faction is not player controlled. You will be able to interact with the Hutts which you'd probably see much action if you were a smuggler or bounty hunter, and in TOR you would see many jedi in gray areas of morality. As BioWare said, you will find skills available if you choose to be good, evil or stay neutral.
As for TOR as an MMO, BioWare did say that your single player story is soloable, but as BioWare also said, if you only play solo you will miss out on a lot of content. That could be said about just about every other game out there including many sandbox games. In SWG I solo'd pretty much my entire dual classes in less than two weeks. This game will have tons of group activities, but it will also cater to solo play. Just about every MMO does that now.
I can think of a shitload of MMORPGs in which soloing is perfectly viable. Doesn't mean it's the best, or most efficient path, however....and this is also the case in SWTOR, with the XP bonus for grouping.
I don't consider a few solo instances game breaking in anyway.....nor a factor for making an MMORPG suddenly not an MMORPG.
I can think of yet another shitload of MMORPGs with solo instances.
Why is it a bad thing to allow for various play styles?
