undead are the ONLY evil race, every other race has their own storyline and politics, which is why this game is so great.
and as for the question at hand:
I will play a rogue, shaman , and paladin likely. but my first character will be paladin.
I love being able to solo well, take a beating, and not have fear when in pvp encounters. I played paladin to level 23 in OB, shaman to 20, and rogue to 19. I loved all of them, so in the end you have to make a choice.
Here is a few things that i found about each class:
Rogue: starts off strong but suddenly in the mid-teens gets much stronger you can go up to 2 very difficult mobs, knock one out for 20 seconds and kill the first, heal up, then the 2nd one comes out of stun and you kill him... this would also work great for pvp. If you like ganking, rogue is your style.
Shaman: You are strong all the way. PvP you can kill just about anyone, and you can get away from anyone as well, until level 40 at least when horses can be bought. With my shaman i was killing rogues 4-7 levels higher than me, but they mostly had little skill, and i am typically highly skilled in pvp compared to most players... (sounds cocky but it is pretty much true). Also, great at soloing , can handle many adds and is good at running away, also great utility. All around a very good class.
Paladin: Well, besides wearing plate at level 40 and getting a free Holysteed, there are some things that clutched it for me. Paladins can solo very well, at level 23 i can solo level 28 mobs without using 1 of my 2 immunities, and without using Lay on Hands. Also, when you are fighting and get several adds, you can run away, not as well as a shaman, but well enough that you can almost always get away. Just use blessing of free movement or whatever it was called, and your immunities. For pvp, paladin cannot be killed unless teamed up on by many people. One time in the barrans ( i played on a pvp server) i was pk'ing and i had 5 horde on me, all of them within a couple levels of me and i recall the shaman being a higher level than me.... so i ran into ratchet using my blessing and my immunities, they couldn't stop me because of it :P, anyway i ran to the guard and stopped, and let the horde guys hit me... sure enough the ratchet guard killed all 5 of them ... it was hilarious they evidently did not know pvp'ing in gobby towns is bad for business!
Anyway, to sum it up, i will be playing paladin because they can solo, can wear plate, have fun class-specific quests, get a free horse at 40, are great at pvp (most horde say too hard to kill), and even with our lack of stuns, if you take up engineering you can usually chase down an enemy and finish off the kill even if you are solo (i'm talking pvp here). And even if you can't get the kill, it is very rewarding just to know they can't touch you and you chased them off .
First I was thinking of just making an other warlock as my main, then I changed my mind to creating a rogue. Now, after a second change of mind that is hopefully final, I'm looking to start an Orcish warrior.
Orc Warrior - nothing like an orc swinging a big a$$ axe at somebodies head. It doesnt get much better than that preferably a human or elf head.
...and probably Undead Priest because i wanna have char that will be attractive in groups. I played one up too about lvl 15 and they also seem like extremely good soloers with good dps and healing built in.
Ill probably have 3 chars in total so i can cover Smithy/Mining/Herb/Alchy/Enchant...and possibly Engineering or something else for tradeskills. At least one will have max fishing, because i loved fishing in this game. Lack of really good rods was a problem in beta though.
So 3 chars in total, probably all Horde, although im sure ill slink of on another server and play around with a dwarf or something...
(P.S they gotta improve warriors though generally so they are on par with casters, and hunters need more bows. My main char in beta was a hunter. I enjoyed it, but the lack of good lower lvl bows was a sore point, and my pets never did enough dmg...but it is a versatile fun class)
I too have played in the stress test and in the open beta, and got up to a lvl 20 night elf hunter.
And im not sure wether to keep with this profession or change to a new one. I already know I will be a night elf, coz they're are just cool, but its so close(in my opinion) a rogue and hunter profession. What surprised me the most though is that most people were hunters, like over 60%, which may put me off becoming a hunter again.
Though hunter is a cool profession, coz you get to tame pets, i just dont know what kinda of profession to go for.
P.S by the way there need to be more priests in the game, coz they're really handy, and to be honest it was really difficult to find one.

Indeed. I like that skill too. Nice to eat the dead body of your foe.
Tauren druid. I just like Tauren and Druids. I would have been tauren shaman but when i found out tauren could be druid i decided to be druid.
