Anyone else feel like this when browsing any thread here? It's not vapourware, it's not a con to steal gamers cash they are making a real game and you can try it for nothin, zippo ... 100% buckshee!

BTW mods this thread makes no reference to anyone either living or dead (even the dude on the Suzuki) and any such similarities that may be drawn are purely coincidental so let's just all have some fun and relax for a bit :)

Saying its not a con to steal money is a bit of a stretch. They sold the beta for like 70 bucks, before anyone even saw the state it was in. They sold even more expensive collectors editions that came with almost nothing at all. That's pretty low.

As for the hate, it comes from all the frustrated people trying the game and seeing tha tit just plain flat out DOESN'T WORK. No ulterior motives here. This isn't Darkfall, there was never a huge angry vapor troll population that got angry when they found out the game was actually coming out. Its becasuse the game doesn't work.

I meant that MO is not a confidence trick being used to steal peoples money (sorry I wasn't clear on that). Yeah they sold pre-orders or in effect they sold the game to you now with the understanding you get beta access until launch and the standard free month. A con? Well certainly no more than a certain game I purchased at launch where the OB was limited and you found out at launch the features advertised on the box were non existant, contrary to the hype the company spewed prior to release.

Maybe some might feel conned, I certainly feel conned by the company I describe above. I suppose unless they actually break the law like the company above (U.K law "trades description act") then it's debatable but if someone feels tricked and cheated then I can't disagree with the way they feel.

I understand the frustration and that many features don't work or aren't there, and I suppose this is as good a place as any to vent that frustration. It doesn't mean I have to like it.

It says this in the first paragraph, implying that they will release at the end of this month.

Which can mean either "We have to postpone the release again" or "We have to postpone the release for a different month" or "We have to postpone the release for one more month" depending on context. However the debate on that is null and void if you take into account his final sentence "We will announce a final release date at a later time" which to anyone reasonable person reading it makes it obvious he meant in the first sentence.

Don't know what the date is now but that's the current statement in the announcments at the official MO forums.

Even Slapshot has to back me up on this one, right?

No.. because the ORDER PAGE confirms they meant April : https://account.mortalonline.com/content.php?name=information

Again.. not guaranteed.. but that is the last date we were given.  Taken in context it shows that the message you quoted meant they planned to  release in April but the exact DAY in April would be announced later.

Given they haven't patched the test servers by now.. it looks like another delay is likely but you would think that after all these delays they would understand the importance of being pro-active with the announcements instead of waiting until the last few days of the month.

Umm.. they charged me and many other people $75-$108 back in July and try not to offer refunds almost a year later.. so yeah.. I'd say people who were charged 9 months ago can gripe.

Speaking as a notorious troll, we feed on three things:

    1) Fanbois: These people are soooooooo much fun. All you have to do is say something with a slightly negative tone about their game and they react like you kicked their dog while fucking their girlfriend (or the other way around)

    2) Crap: We eat crap. Anybody who releases an unfinished product or a poorly designed/implimented program is just asking to be trolled. (I'm looking at you StarVault and Mythic)

    3) Assholes: And this is the item that is near and dear to my heart. Assholes begged to be trolled. The President of Star Vault who said that if we, as a community, don't support his unfinished pile of crap that we will see an end to sandbox MMO's. The arrogance of that statement is pure troll-nip. I'm hoping that if we don't support MO that it will mean an end to shitty unfinished products being released, but hey I AM only one troll.

I simply responded by quoting that the latest published information we have which says that they plan to release this month and that they have not said anything about delaying it further at this time.   This was brought up because you said people should simply try and play the game 2 weeks before it releases.  You can't tell people to try it 2 weeks before it releases and then tell them they can never believe a release date.

Again.. do I expect them to release next week?  NOPE.  That doesn't change the fact that the last word we had from them was that they planned to release this month.. which would mean next week.

Seriously man you're just a lost cause, I can gather from your posts that you're neither an idiot nor a retard so it makes no sense why you press the point of the release date. I know that you know it won't release this month, I know that you know it probably won't release next month either. What I don't know is why it bothers you so much that you keep nit picking over it?

Please don't insult my intelligence about replying to me or someone else or being concerned about it, because if we were down the pub disscusing this you would be too embaressed to argue this point as everyone would think you're nuts. Also in reality I know that you really don't care about it anyway.

A good choice however as a hardcore gamer I'm not against getting your end away however girlfriends can be detrimental to any gaming career. Also these devil women that want to go out and suck attention (among other things) can badly impact the effectivness of any clan. I've seen clans decimated because the leader got a girlfriend!!!!!!!!

Married men are a good option for clan leaders as long as they've been married 2+ years. By that time you want to get away from her as much as possible and lose interest in sex, atleast with the wife, but the demon women prevents him from getting it elsewhere!

    Damn I'm ranting now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought we were talking about shagging here! I voted for tits and ass! Then you start talking about girlfriends and wives, 2 completely different things. The women are obviously neeed for the shagging I have nothing against this obviously, they got my vote, but anything that involves hanging about 5 minutes after sex, sorry you lost me.

StarVault is probably the least professional MMO developer/publisher I've encountered. They were praised for being active in the community and unfiltered communication while the game was (supposedly) still on schedule and they were giving the community all the right answers. Now that the game has been delayed almost a year, progress is slow, and what is actually in the game and working fails to live up to (unrealistic) expectations, their policy has backfired.

On one hand, you can't blame a developer new to the industry for being a bit naive and unprofessional. On the other hand, they did bring it upon themselves. If they had delivered a decent game last summer, most haters would have moved on by now. Likewise if they had given more realistic estimates for release date and/or features. They can still turn it around by releasing a working game, and hiring a professional community manager, though.

Anyway, back on topic. I hated the picture, but I'm sure it has POTENTIAL!

The only conclusion I can come to is "Haters gonna hate"!

Why is bothers me personally is because I feel they took my money (and lots of others) under blatantly fraudulent premesis and they continue this behavior to date.  When I ordered the game in July they said they planned to SHIP THE GAME in Sept.  During this pre-order the NDA was in effect and they certainly made statements about the only way to guarantee access to the game on day one was to pre-order right away. (Coming from the Darkfall launch this was a believeable statement)

Remember.. the game was originally scheduled for Summer 09.. so in July when they tell you 'Sept" you kind of figure the game is well developed and close to launch.   Well...obviously that didn't happen.. and they conveniently tried to claim that you can't get a refund, even if you they said the game was targeted to release in 6 weeks and it's now almost 40 weeks later. Instead of being honest.. they keep moving the carrot 1 step further.  Sept becomes Q4..  Q4 becomes January (even though they took half the month off for vacation).. Jan becomes Q1.  Q1 becomes April.

All the while they keep saying "We are just THIIIIIIIS close to release". And refusing to voluntarilly offer refunds to people who feel misled and were charged $75 ot $108 waaaay back in July when it was shipping in 6 weeks.

Now you got involved late in the game but look at the state it is in now.  You freely admit there are tons of issues.  Flashback to July 2009 (9 months).  How could they ethically have claimed they were shipping in 6 weeks?  To me it all comes down to integrity.  As far as I am concerned they tried to steal my money and deserve every last drop of venom they receive.

OK Slapshot that makes sense and I agree with you and can see why you're pissed at them misleading you, I'd be pretty browned off too. They should be giving returns for people like yourself but understand why they can't do that without going broke.

It's better for them that you are pissed and they're in business, but you don't have to like it and I understand where you're coming from. This is the reason why I never looked into MO until it was free, I've been burnt and alot worse by other companies. The last one which I won't name would make SV or even Enron look like choir boys!

I guess some of us (myself included) need to get burnt first, others posess the common sense and restraint to avoid such situations. I didn't but I hope I do now, anyhow I sympathise with your predicament and hope you get your cash back or some compensation in the future.

Very well put. If a game is pile of unfinished garbage then it deserves to get trolled. If for nothing but to warn unsuspecting people to shell out €70 for something that can barely pass as early beta.

It was clearly stated we would get beta access until it releases and a free month when it launches, and they kept their word on that so far.  BTW Darkfall did the same thing with their release, wait until the day before it launches and delay it a few months. Multiple times as well

That is an ABSOLUTE LIE.   There were no "BIG RED LETTERS".  It was a small clicky on the side of the website.. which was incredibly lagged the night the pre-orders opened.  You wouldn't even see it unless you expressly looked for it and it wasn't even required to read it or click it to order.  Not to mention that their NO REFUND policy has been proven to be against both  EU law and their agreements with US credit card companies.  Thus the forced refunds.  you are certainly entitled to your own opinion about who's problem it was.. but you are not entitled to your own facts.

Also.. Darkfall did not charge me 9 months (and counting) before the game launched.   Delay a game all you want but you can't charge me money with a blatantly false release date and then hold my money as long as you want.  If they offered refunds when the game was delayed I would have no beef.  Now that its 9+ months that is a HUGELY LEGITIMATE complaint.

Darkfall was delayed an incredible length of time... but I ordered it and was playing very soon after.  I don't recall if it was the next day or week but it was very quick.  Again.. the issue isn't the delay.. it's the fact that SV blatantly lied about expecting to ship in Sept (on July 14th) and continue to do so regularly.  Anyone who logs into the game today would easilly agree (even Agricola) that their claim of shipping in Sept was pure and utter bullshit designed to get people's money.

PS: I don't think anyone should use Aventurine as a benchmark for customer communication as they were (at least when I played) the worst I ever saw... until StarVault came around.  As I said many times.. STOP LOWERING THE BAR for these crappy companies.  When your main excuse is that they are no worse than the worst customer service in the industry.. it says a lot about the company in question.
