I plan on trying out the "demo." I just wish they didn't put such heavy restrictions on trials. Let me do whatever I want (restrictions to prevent gold selling/powerlevel selling/spamming are perfectly understandable) and just put a restriction on the time for my account. A 14 day free trial that lets me play the game with few restrictions is what I crave.
Also, most MMOs do a "welcome back weekend" a year or more into their lives. Since it's at the 4 month mark, does this mean that STO is losing more subscriptions that a game that's a year or older?

They wont do it, for the same reasons they limited character level in the open beta, people will find out quickly there is no depth, no content, and they will reach max level fairly easily. Once the "new car" smell wears off its very clear there is zero depth to the game and they will never keep any of the trial palyers. The fact that they go against industry norms with the trial level restrictions shows that they "KNOW" that they lack those things that make an MMO sustainable, they lack those things that make someone "WANT" to play and pay monthly for any exteneded periods of time. Its just more of a way to try and squeeze ever nickel and dime they can out of this game.

I believe there is a strict limit in the trial (only a few missions is pretty strict) because chances are people will download this and get through most of the content before the trial is even over, without ever having to pay for the game.

You are still not talking about the game or the topic of the thread. The victim thing doesnt work around here unlike the official STO forums. You have something to say about the topic being discussed here, knock yourself out, otherwise you are bringing nothing to the table and are actually acting just like those you claim to call out.
A mod posted this a few posts ago. I guess no one saw it. Anyway... how about that weekend trial? Opinions? Thoughts?
Yea, sorry man.
I just dont think enough has improved for me to go back and play. I think the restrictions on the very few missions that can be played during the trial is very telling about the state of the game, and the very fact that its coming this early in the games life cycle should be very telling to those who wonder what the long term health of this game is at. I really wish and wanted Cryptic to "get it" and really push hard to improve the areas of the game that needed it most, but in my eyes they just have not. Maybe I would be willing to check it out in a year if its still around but right now its just not worth it to me.

I agree with this. For me, I just dont think that Cryptic has released enough quality content to warrant a resub from me. A trial that is so strict in how much of the game it allows potential customers to see is also a bad thing in my opinion.
A lot of MMO's out there offer at least a weeks worth of play, and some offer 14 days to play. A weekend seems highly stingy compared to other trials out there.
I was a beta player who did not buy (for obvious reasons), and on the very off chance I get the urge to play again, I can wait until it is $10 or less.

I really can't see how any reasonable person can see Welcome weekend nothing else but friendly gesture to those who felt the game was lacking or w/e at the release and being it an offer to evaluate how the game evolved since they left.
As for the trial, well..it is a trial that is a pretty much a standard 'feature' in MMO industry.

unfortunatley cryptic made a game that most people and reviewers consider to be not very good. many of the negative posters here myself included had high hopes for sto. if your looking for positive input on sto try there forums, other than that i dont think your going to find much. and as to trolls and fanboys, either find it amusing or just dont read it. even with the name calling there is still people stating opinions if you try to ignore that part of it.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
as far as the welcome back weekend goes, I will give it a shot, will I resub? highly unlikely...but, the game that Cryptic made is pretty solid, the problem IMO is that an MMoRPG made about ST should have been massive and Cryptics ST misses the mark in to many ways, but, the graphics are great and the space combat was awesome and I even liked the ground combat, but once you do thoughs 2 things over over there is nothing more and that is whats so disapointing.
I do feel sorry for the people who actualy defend this Game and Cryptic. The standards they hold have dropped low for some of these people...?
On Topic!
Cryptic is hoping that we will refer players to STO ... under the banner of "Test it and see" But the restictions on the trial are a joke. It will give them a tast of the game. And one must admit that many people will be sucked into subing if they did not read the reviews or Forums regarding this game.
The first few missions are nice but it stops about 5-7 days into play when you relize you doing the same thing over and over. But hey then its to late... you alread paid your sub for the month..."Gotcha!" ....
I will never encourage anyone to bye or support a Cryptic product again! This is only a attempt to pull in the last remaining dummies in before they sink .... ..right Zinch....!
Oh yea ..dont forget the Buy some stuff on the C-Store... 70% of our new content is availible for purchase!
As for the trial, well..it is a trial that is a pretty much a standard 'feature' in MMO industry.
No, industry standards are for a 7, 10, or 14 day trial, though there are the occasional games that have shorter or greater trial time periods. There are also games that put a level cap or area restriction on the trial (WAR and AoC come immediately to mind). However, this is the first time that I know of where you have had a company offer a trial this restrictive. It is most certainly not industry standard.
If Cryptic feels that their game is evolved enough that they can offer a trial for it, then they should either give a decent time limit (say 7 days) or limit characters to Lt. 10. If they do not think that the game is ready for that level of scrutiny yet, then they should hold off on offering trials until they do feel it is ready.

Read this thread's original post and figure it out for yourself. There's always the chance that Cryptic could change things at the last minute (since it isn't implemented yet) and offer a real trial, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I am pointing out double standards and hypocricy which is part of STO discussion since we are talking about STO, the players and the company.
So please stop calling everyone fanboy who disagree with you. thank you.

I was a beta player who did not buy (for obvious reasons), and on the very off chance I get the urge to play again, I can wait until it is $10 or less.
Which will be in a couple months at this rate....
no crafting
no exploration
very little and very shallow content overall
let me know when all 3 of these have changed and ill come back to check it out.
