I feel the pay model is BS. You are going to give me 20 hours for $3 off a month? No thanks.
If they are going to do that AND have microtransactions (and they will have it) is either Free to Play or pay half the cost of the sub which would be $5 a month and be given the 20 hours to play. I mean... come on, 2 or 3 bucks difference between 20 hours and unlimited?
Sounds like they are feeling the market out before trying to find their payday mean. I don't blame them, but let's not forget the gamers.
There is also option to pay 9 bucks and get regular 30 day sub. Buying hours of play time is only for the casual gamers who obviously not going to spend 10 hours a day playing APB.
They said $9.99 so, 10 bucks, but that is just semantics. Casual or no.. make it mean a difference, knock off half the price of a sub or make it FTP. Otherwise it honestly makes no sense to drop a dollar or three off the price to play for 20 hours a month.

In that case why not pay 10 bucks (9 bucks is for EURO gamers) and get unlimited time for 30 days like one does for regular MMO subscription? i still don't unerstand your complaint because if you are not a casual gamer, buying time by hours is defninetly not for you. They are giving options to both kind of gamers. Whats bad about it? the days i know i don't have enough time to play i will spend 3 bucks to buy 20 hours instead of regular 10 buck monthly fee.
It's nice to see a company try a new payment model. I can easily see my original 50 hours last well over a month.
i could easily see me wanting to play the game like any other mmo and 50 hours falling far short you must really not enjoy the game
I don't have much time for gaming, and what little time I do have is spread between playing multiple PC games and going over to friends' houses to play various 360 games as well. I bet I could get at least 2 months out of the box sale alone, especially since occupying a social district won't take up any time.
Correction,,, I misunderstood the payment model. 20 hours, which I will assume will bleed over payment cycles, so you pay as you go.
Then it goes into how much one game hour is worth... Well, if they are giving you 50 hours for free with the purchase of the game, and it is industry standard to give the first month for free then start the sub process, 1 dollar is equal to 5 game hours. So you pay $10 a month for 50 game hours +
That being said, they are charging $7 a month. That should be $35 game hours of playtime. Not 20. I just feel like they are AT&T or Telecom or whatever the phone service in Japan is... trying to nickel and dime the customer.
I feel the pay model is BS. You are going to give me 20 hours for $3 off a month? No thanks.

Of course there is sense in it. You want a monthly fee then you have it. If on the other hand you are someone who only gets a chance to play a few hours here and there at the weekend then you can pay a few bucks less. No one loses anything. The monthly fee itself is 2/3 of the price of other MMO's, i don't feel the game is worth a monthly fee myself but hey ho.
I wasn't aware of the monthly fee option also being there until recent posts, that'll teach me not to skim.

the only reason it makes sense is because people like you will pay for it for awhile anyways
I typically play more in a month then would be supported for the hourly play I also don't think the game is worth 10$ a month as it doesn't have enough MMO aspects to fill the void of an MMO. After all its combat all takes place in instances with a cap of 20v 20 battles.
I find this payment model to be bullshit and not a good value at all. This is a great value for a true MMO with a complete game of content. HOWEVER APB is not a true MMO, it is 3 zones, 1 of which is a social district very similiar to GA's dome city in that you need to go there to do certain things but you dont really socialize or do anything fun there. The other two are 'action' districts which is what you are paying hourly for, to play a max of 20 v 20 battles in an instance. You get this free with every other shooter you purchase through online play, yet to play this one you must pay.
Finally the hourly play is not innovative or unique at all. It is the standard for payment in the Asian MMO market. This is nothing new at all, while it would be nice for other MMOs to include this as an option along with their options for monthly fee's, it has been around for quite some time. This just falls back to the same thing I've said twice before and will repeat once more just to be sure we're clear. APB is a shooter that supports 20 v 20 battles, not an MMO. It has 3 zones, only two have any value to them, they are the ones you're required to pay to use. Importing the Asian payment model for MMO's to a NON MMO game IS NOT a good value.
Honestly I think APB is cool, and was about to pre-order it when I saw it had a set date, then I read the payment model and now im disgusted. I feel lied to with all the bullshit of no monthly fee required and that they garuntee the payment model would be a good value and not any traditional type of model. I had a quite a few people convinced to get this game, now I'm sure none will even look at it seeing as they would have to pay hourly/monthly for two MMO's if they purchased APB which IS NOT an MMO. Oops, said it again!.
I feel the pay model is BS. You are going to give me 20 hours for $3 off a month? No thanks.

You obviously didn't read the post you quoted and my post just a few back from it, or unintentionally missed it. I've tested it for a while and won't be buying it for a few reasons, but the main one being that it not worth any sort of fee other than the box price.

sry i apologize you are correct the game would be fine with a 1 time box price like guildwars then move on from there i do apologize tho i misinterpreted your post and i am sorry

No worries fella, i assumed you'd missed what i meant, we're all prone to skim reading from time to time
Alot of you are missing a very important point of this payment method.
Fine, you don't want to get the game. It is not a MMO, and hence the payment method is "bullshit" for this game. Sure, that is your opinion wich you are very entitled to have. BUT I know that I and alot of others have sought for another payment method than the standard 15$ a month wich is old and quite frankly obsolete. If you're a hardcore player it is worth the money, when you are not, like me, it is not. And if you are like me and actually see some value in your 15$ (add your months up and eventually it ends up being alot of money) you want to get your moneys worth. As it is now it's either sub or go f2p.
Now I don't mind some f2p games but they all try to back you up in that corner where the only exit is through the item mall. What we've needed for quite some time now is a new payment method, don't misunderstand me now, this is not necessarily IT. But it is ONE step on the way, and a pretty well placed step in my honest opinion.
Sure shaving of 3$ for the 20 hour subscription is a bit low, half off would be more in the lines of where it should be. But it could be that one step that makes other developers wake up and think "Hey... We need the casuals on OUR bandwagon to be successfull, sure they whine alot and want to be hand held through the game, BUT they generate money". Subscription methods like these they appeal to the masses, the casuals can pick up the hourly subscription and the ones that have alot of time can go for the unlimited subscription.
This is the best development of the genre I've seen in years. Development doesn't always mean awesome graphics or wicked combat reforms people.
Its funny. After reading every single post here I'm on the fence now.
I was thinking "I'll just make some decent clothes and vehicles to sell"
Thats when it hit me, they are giving the players some hours of play time to create the content for them! I almost fell for it, and many others will fall for it too. Thats the key to sand box games, you make the tools and let the people paying you money create the content for you and give them an illusion to make them feel like they are being properly rewarded.
The fact that this is just shooter in an open is kind of a let down. You can play GTA4 online for free. And APB isnt really that different aside from character creation. Is that what we're paying for? I was really hoping for a Guild Wars type of payment method. I too had two of my friends that NEVER purchase MMOs or PC games at all. I've tried hundreds of times to convince them to play city of heroes and many other games with me, and I finally got them to consider APB. Now I'm not so sure if its worth it.
The fees would be fine for two of us (the other is cheap and wouldnt play unless it were completely free) but its like why should we pay for this if its doesnt have that much content. The districts must be really huge.
umm random question but why is it.. they offer 30 day and 20hrs?? why not just do 24hrs??? is it really that important to take 3 bucks off and then knock 4hrs off the game time???
i dont get why APB gave this offer.... you cant claim its for casuals because frankly its not. a casual would play 24hrs not this retarded 20 crap...
trying to argue that casuals wont play atleast 48hrs is foolish, so i fail to see why they dropped price and total hours you gain... weither or not it rolls over on to other payments giving you 20/30/40/90hrs of game time BUT.... its still retarded a normal day is 24hrs not 20....
as for payment plans... they arent any diffrent from normal games. LOTS of mmos charge 9.99 for their games... just because WoW or some other crappy game does 15 bucks doesnt instantly make 9.99 some brand new all knowing godly payment plan no one has ever thought of... APB said they were going to think out side the box... but they havent...
they just redecorated the box... ingame sub offers on items sold... been there and done that... nice offer...
20hrs for XX amount... thats predates wow... 9.99 predates wow too SOOOOO what exactly is thinking out side the box???
umm random question but why is it.. they offer 30 day and 20hrs?? why not just do 24hrs??? is it really that important to take 3 bucks off and then knock 4hrs off the game time?
they are not knocking off 4 hours of gametime for 3 dollars it is 10 dollars for unlimited time or 7 dollars for 20 hours
so they are knocking of way more than 4 hours for 3 dollars
See? That's all you people need to worry about here. Even "casuals", who currently pay $15 a month for most MMOs.
well i guess you dont see the difference it is not an mmo it hs not the content of an mmo it is a shooter with mmo aspects and even Global Agenda has had 3 months of touchy feely and a free trial and a full touchy feely beta before the 3 months started before they are even venturing into the subscription phase but i guess because its cops and robbers and the lead guy made gta that makes up for it all

This is the math.... cause folks skim through only 2 pages of info : /
Edited to reflect the carry over factor of the payment plan.
the first payment method reminds me of a situation of paying for your cell phone:
on one method, you can pay a monthly fee for usually unlimited time of service for your cell phone, barring what ever added stuff and fees they put in their.
the other method being paying for your minutes, such as you can pay for a mount of minutes and use them at any time, with no added fees or hidden costs attached. (but usually you have a set day of service to use the phone before it shuts down if lack of paying for more minutes).
I typically play more in a month then would be supported for the hourly play I also don't think the game is worth 10$ a month as it doesn't have enough MMO aspects to fill the void of an MMO. After all its combat all takes place in instances with a cap of 20v 20 battles.

This pretty much. I don't care too much about 'labels' fun is the thing. Not really 10 bucks a month fun to me. GA which has a whole bunch of 'persistent' stuff (that APB dosen't0 is not something I would subscribe to either.
See? That's all you people need to worry about here. Even "casuals", who currently pay $15 a month for most MMOs.
well i guess you dont see the difference it is not an mmo . . .
You might want to rush over to RTW and tell them their game isnt an mmo, and while your at it, tell ArenaNet that Guild Wars isnt an mmo either.
You have no idea with whom you are arguing. that guy is never wrong, trust me. He has spent last 4 hours bashing APB. ,he is distrubingly obsessed witha game which he is never going to play.

are you really going to go there? guildwars was the 1st mmo i ever played 6 years ago are you really going to go there?guildwars has so much contenet it isnt even funny are you really going to go there?and i never even did any of the pvp are you really going to go there?i paid the box price for guild wars are you really going to go there?are you really trying to compare APB with guild wars 1 the 1st one?not even mentioning what they put out beyond 1 guild wars charged you for the box/client and you had unlimited play time free of charge and they did it well i cant even believe you are even trying to compare APB to it in the same breath shame on you

It is 20 hours playtime over as long as you want, not 20 hours a day. I think you have the wrong end of the stick there.
they are not knocking off 4 hours of gametime for 3 dollars it is 10 dollars for unlimited time or 7 dollars for 20 hours
so they are knocking of way more than 4 hours for 3 dollars
The game is $10 a month. Cool.
This pretty much. I don't care too much about 'labels' fun is the thing. Not really 10 bucks a month fun to me. GA which has a whole bunch of 'persistent' stuff (that APB dosen't0 is not something I would subscribe to either.
