Hm, I have 4 gb ram and windows 7 32 bit edition, is there a problem?

There is not so huge problem, but... ~1GB is wasted in your PC. Yours OS can't use it.

Hm, no wonder it said usable 3.25 gb then. I assumed that 64 bit os editions are only usable with 64 bit cpu's, mine is a 32 bit type image

Oh, so I can pick up another gig of RAM without going over the 32-bit limit? I thought it was 2gigs and 64 was 4+. That's cool. I need to upgrade to Windows 7 soon (have Vista 32-bit).

Well I know little of what Intel is up to for late 2010/2011, but AMD is unveiling Bulldozer, which will be the first fundemental redesign of their microarchitecture in three years. Details are scarce, but they're now CPUs will have built-in GPUs (which, even in systems with a dedicated GPU, should enable faster computing for GPGPU functions), and AMD is developing something of an answer to hyperthreading, though their equivalent technology is going to be much, much more sophisticated and powerful.

Again, details are scarce, but in short, you can expect vastly more powerful CPUs to come from AMD, while I expect Intel to have their own upgrades in the works.

Oh.   Well.. I think you make a good point there!  I hate waiting, but it sounds like its going to be the smartest choice.

Intel is working on the same theme for their next line of CPUs as well (the whole on chip GPU thing), so it should be interesting in the next round of the CPU faceoffs.

My impression is that Bulldozer is superior to Sandy Bridge in how they've tackled multithreading, which basically seems to have two "cores" sharing a single FPU, and so, has more hardware replicated than is done in hyperthreading, and I believe is done with the intention of having the GPU pick up slack from the shared FPUs (GPGPU is really a game changer). Unfortunately, this starts to get beyond what I really know about CPU architecture.

The big problem for AMD is bracing for another die shrink from Intel, even if Bulldozer does plaster Sandy Bridge. The up-shot is that AMD is at least coming half-way there, because I hear their really improving the manufacturing at their foundries anyways, and as an up-shot for AMD, they'll probably make a profit from every Intel CPU made anyways because if I'm not mistaken, Intel is getting their CPU-embedded GPUs from Ati (in other words, from AMD).

intel isnt sub to ati for the simple reason intel is 2 die shrink ahead of ati almsot 3 die shrink

Intels Sandybridge doesn't matter too much about Die-shrink since the GPU side is a different size then the CPU side.  However, Bulldozer is a better design.  Slapping 2 pieces of hardware on 1 die usually doesn't make a big difference.  Refining a design to integrate the elements is tougher and usually works better with the exception for first batch is usually junk.

Even though its possible for Intel to pair their CPU with an AMD GPU, its not like they plausibly can because an AMD IGP is a bit larger then an Intel IGP.  It doesn't stop the fact you would still get better performance out of an Intel platform if you use an AMD Northbridge instead of slapping an Intel IGP right next to the CPU.

mm!according to intel demo they made in asia everything in sandy bridge proc will be 32nm be it the proc side or the gpu side that why the delay !because the one today we can get is like you mention gpu 40 nm or 45 nm and proc 32 nm!

the way sandybridge will be made is insanelly complex but very nice will have 6 core for proc part reserver for gpu 6 or 12 mb of ram

i linked the site somewhere here max 30 days ago!

heres a view of the proc!

    http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/02/27/look-intels-upcoming-sandy-bridge/

if it is like this it will be a beast !thot i saw 6 core but i mixed it with the one they have now !sandy bridge wont be ready till end of the year but it could change like mention i guess we ll have to wait later in the year to know exactly!
