EQ was really my first MMO. My first love i guess you could say.

I think the reason that i liked it so much was 50% game. But 50% community.

I know in this day and age most people dont "want" to group. They want to be able to solo anything and everything. EQ you didnt "have" to group. But it made it damm hard if you didnt. So you typically grouped. I liked this becuase you learned to like your fellow gamers.

So grouping for me is a wish.

Guild halls. Again this comes back to community. But to add to this, a hall that other guilds can see and as your guild gets bigger and better so does your guild hall so others have that ohhh & ahhh feel!

I personally liked the lvl progression & the AA abilitys i woulndt mind seeing that back.

Crafting. More eq2 style. I enjoyed the fact that you didnt press a button and you were done. Having to pay attention was nice :)

Lots i have missed but im at work "working"

I agree also on the idea of putting Norath back together and setting the time line before the events of EQ1 or 2. EQ2 always felt like the breaking wasn't implemented because it was cool but because they couldn't build the world like it was in EQ1 with the EQ2 engine. It always felt forced and detached. What if we had an EQ1 like game play but with improved graphics, AI, UI etc but set during the time when the Euridites were blowing stuff up (Like the Hole) or when the Ogre's were still smart and strong?  By the 5th expansion you would see the timeline advancing. Maybe run into an ascestor of Flippy or Sgt Slate?  Maybe see Lord Mistmoore pre-Vamp?

Much like Knights of the Old Republic, if you go back far enough you can use the lore as a building block without worrying too much about stepping on EQ1 or 2's toes.

Two words for you: Columbine Empire.  Base the game as the Empire is being created (by the players) or as it is falling, sort of like ancient rogue.

Look.  Here is the bottom line.  Eq2 had a great story line.  The Gods breaking the world because of the arrogance of the races.  Great story.  It was just a terrible game built around the story.  I think eq3 very well could be a prequal.  However that has kind of been done with Eq online adventures.

Bottom line there was nothing wrong with the EQ2 story.  Sony just dropped the ball with it.

    Funny

A lot of the requests from these boards sound like wanting a game like Vanguard

  • HedeonHedeon Member UncommonPosts: 997

for everquest 3 Id wish they would leave Norrath. they sure need a new "everquest"

could see some simple lore, in a more fullfilling version. the big big hero´es of Norrath need to find new home, since world keep self destruct....or was it some dragons ow well.

either way in EQ2 alot keep complaint it aint EQ1, which it aint and doubt they would make a real sequal, so why not just set sail for new adventures instead of try make those who want to redo their already done adventures....am really not so sure ppl would want things as they claim - in gameplay yes. in story and shape of zones....I really do not think so.

edit: well or go like deputy suggested  :P

  • deputy95deputy95 Member Posts: 3

I didn't play Vanguard.  I think that if EQ2 had been a bit more like Eq1 instead of something totally diffrent it would have been much more sucessful in attracting those eq1 players.  I couldn't play eq2 very long because I hated the game.  It looking nothing like the old game that I loved.

Asheron's Call did this.. though it didn't really have a cap for determine end game.. and the vassel system was perfect for encouraging group play, even though it wasn't always needed.

Someone needs to mimic the guild/alligence system that AC uses... it was perfect...

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Maybe your right? I missed it for some reason. To me removing the gods, the starting cities and half the zones made it feel like just another fantasy game to me. I did enjoy the return of Kunark and Neriak years later in EQ2.

EQ1 was my favorite mmo of all time before it crashed and burned out.

    My wish list:

    - BRING BACK THE FUCKIN BOAT RIDES! no more get on a boat or airship and sail/fly for 1 minute then zone into the place ur headed instantly. i want travel time! i want my old eq1 boat ride!!! i wanna see islands with people gettin owned by cylopses! i wanna see fuckin sirens on the rocks again! i want my god damn drunken ship races back!

    - No more auction houses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! back comes the days where you actually had to meet up at the designated trading area and actually put effort into selling your goods, and haggle with customers! player interaction god damn yous!

    - time shifts/ night and day: eq1 had nightime go pitch black. unless you had nightvision or a torch u were s.o.l. and it was awesome. my newb barbarian was screwed when i got lost tryin to get to BB at night and i loved it. i was actually frightened lol

    - no more instanced dungeons please!!! i want to be able to go to the hot spot dungeon and look for groups that have taken up camps and ask if i can join or have my group actually see other people fighting in the same place.

    - alcohol use, games now a days suck with this, yeah u can get drunk. but most of the damn time it lasts for 30 secs or so then its gone and all it really does is make ur character wobbly. i want the eq1 drunk! complete and utter distortion of sight and speech.

    - no more insta ports to places around the world. when PoP came out and the pok had books to every god damn zone in the game it screwed my taxi druid completely!

    - better pvp, eq1 pvp was great, eq2 pvp was pointless. id like to see actual benefits for pvp. and if they are going to seperate the races into sides again then there should be bonuses for winning in pvp. i know Mythic owns RVR but companies rape each others ideas constantly. make ur own version of RVR and put it in there. i want something to actually fight for!

cont.^ in eq1 and 2 i always played iksar because of the history and how they hate every race on norrath. in eq especially racism should be promoted. i hate see'in groups with a necro, sk, paladin, and or cleric. THEY HATE EACH OTHER! why the hell would they group up to fight anything! its like a fucking sith lord and a jedi master teaming up. come on!

thats just a bit of whats on my mind for eq3. eq1 had so many little things besides just grinding that made it so fun for years and when they made eq2 they completely stripped it all away leaving nothing but quest grind, and crafting grind. all the great things from the first that people loved was gone and thats why it fuckin sucked and still does no matter how many expanions they pump out.

i know eq3 will suck total balls too because its SOE and they dont give a rats ass about what we want, just about what they thing will make them the most money

  • OrthelianOrthelian Member UncommonPosts: 1,034

More than anything, I would want the racial homelands back. Dividing all those races into just two cities in EQII was obnoxious beyond my ability to express.

EQ3 better known as Everquest - NEXT is a fools folly.

SOE knows this, Declining populations with the failure of Brenlo's lack of leadership and the general lack of purpose does not give credence to a 3rd sequal to a game that has jumped the shark 4 years ago.

I'd like to see an EQIII that kicked it old school EQ1 style.

Ridiculously huge continents. Travel that was more than "click and you're tehre" boats that you could get on, sail away, hop off midway, fight a shark, and discover a lost island or three.

Quests that didn't hold your hand. Where you had to ask the right questions to find the right NPCs to get through.

And an END to stagnant faction gameplay! EQ was awesome because a dark could, if he worked hard and proved himself, be accepted in nearly all good scoieties. Conversely I know a human Paladin that was able to waltz around in Neriak without harm. Well, at least the foreign quarter. Yeah it was too grindy, but at elast let me decide to be good or evil...and let me be able to change that as I play. Let my actions have meaning again!

Sandbox style skill trees think pre-cu SWG

Dynamic Content: Kill these things and something other than the same mobs spawn back.

Destroyable landscape maybe a way to open new areas or instances.

Instanced and Open PvP with more than 2 factions is a must.

Crafting I really liked EQs crafting but less of a money sink and designable items.

New races (come up with something different)

    Collector of old minis.

Id like to see two mmorpgs combined. like for example: Vanguard and EQ worlds sorta merged. U could buy the game EQ3, and play it as it is to its max level, or u could also buy Vanguard 2 and thru some portal be able to bring ur EQ3 character to Vanguard 2's world and experience Vanguard 2's content in addition to EQ3's content, and vise versa. This would open up many different ways of leveling, and different places to explore, different group combinations. Imagine PVP battles between Vanguard 2 and EQ3 players.

now this was just an idea that popped into my head, and i thought it to be cool. and also know that Vanguard 2 was just used for example purposes, because they are both fantasy mmos and are both owned by soe.

    11. I want instant travel to be wiped out, yes let a Wizard or a Druid provide those services it brings community together.

    12. It can't get here quick enough.

    7. xp loss / corpse runs / cleric ressurection giving you 85 % percent of the lost 95 % back

    8. helpful buffs like SOW - KEI

    9. deep character development

    10.  10 - 45 - 45 (solo - group - raid)

    11. no stupid RMT

    12. from the guys that made Eq I

    13. crafting like Vanguard

Definitely agree that EQ Next will never happen, and if it did it would be typical SOE style(fail). Its still fun to imagine, though.

I must say this is the first post that really hit the nail on the head for me. I remember early on in EQ getting pawned by Flippy Dark paw, my first group stuff and getting better at the game park pulling droag at DL and oh yeah the trains in KC but I felt I made my own story / history and rep in the community. I have never thought of it in that way but it just feels right to me.

Of course, this is what I'm looking for in every MMO.    And the search continues...

play a singleplayer game and stop trying to ruin this genre for those who do enjoy grouping. the second M is for multiplayer and that doesn't mean "I see other players as i run to my next solo quest".

Dude he's not ruining anyone's game. We are just having a discussion ok ? I hate groups too! You know why? Look at yourself in a mirror and try to imagine grouping with yourself... Ohh and your MMORPG wishes are wayyyy tooo original... Why did you even bother posting... LOL

I am a PVP advocate and I hate groups! To me, the M of Multiplayer means more carebears to grief ... muhahaha!

actually id be a joy to group with since im pretty easy going, only thing that irks me is this "i want to play a multiplayer game solo" .... thats like saying "I want to play a first person shooter ... but i don't want to shoot people"

While probably most people will agree a first person shooter is about shooting people, "Multiplayer" doesn't equal "Grouping". Group with them, kill them, or just enyoy that they are around ... the list goes on. These are all legit interpretations of "Multiplayer".

    I'd like a game which

    - rewards grouping but does'nt punish soloing

    - provides a believable world

    - isn't limited to just combat and crafting

    - is presented in a general high level of technical quality (graphics, interfaces, sound, ...)

    1.  Sandbox world - build houses and cities anywhere you want that are meaningful and can be a destination for travelers

    2.  40+ people raids, 10 people is NOT A RAID

    3.  Many races + classes, all different and purposeful

    4.  No instances

    5.  No zoning

    6.  Contested raid mobs

    7.  EQ1 Lore

    8.  LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY

  • SmokeysongSmokeysong Member UncommonPosts: 247

The evolution that EQII was over EQ - that's what I would like to see. Blow everyone else to smithereens - WoW's classes, AoC's combat and graphics, LotRO's storytelling (actually I'm assuming the storytelling is good there, I didn't care for the game myself). Epicness abounding  for the players, not just the evils you have to conquer.

Customizability, flexibility, able to play how I want to play without feeling penalized. Make me work hard for epic reward, yes, endless grinding for raid drops - barf!

    ;)

Have played: Everquest, Asheron's Call, Horizons, Everquest2, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall

They should do a PREquel, and let us choose to be races unavailable in the past, like gnolls, or goblins. Maybe have it set when humans are young, and elves still pretty much rule the world.
