That site is pretty sick. They are still working on it (i.e. the forums are only just being built), but it's all run by players with no money. They do it outta love.
Lotro is a fantastic PVE game. The story and community are unmatched. But most defenitley jump into Hyboria and give Age of Conan ago, if you're bored with WoW. Age of Conan has come along way since the demolarizing release. Out of the three it is best MMo i have played.
The expansion pack, Return of the God Slayer is arrving on the 11th.

Actualy the OP was advertising LOTRO, i just suggested AoC as a alternative. If you were too click the weblink. or infact read it. Its about a WoW player taking a dip ino the LOTRO waters.

I've never been able to get into LOTRO. I've tried several times and got bored and quit a few hours in each time. It just doesn't seem different enough from WoW to capture my attention... and WoW does basically everything better in my opinion. If I wasn't so burnt out on the WoW/LOTRO PvE model, I would still be in Azeroth now.
I played LOTRO from beta for around 14-15 months and I loved it but it lost it's shine for me when I ran out of end game and I left for a while. I went back recently to try the Moria expansion (I have a life-time account so no subs) and whilst I love the game still I'm actually drawn back to WoW purely for pvp.
LOTRO can't be beaten for it's lore and sense of scale whilst travelling, etc.. and the graphics are still top drawer... but the absence of pvp means it has to come second on my list.
That IP had so much potential for pvp it could really have been something special. But even as a plain old PvE game it's still pretty good. Just not as good as games that have both TBH.
In fact, thinking on it I think I might re-install it again tonight, blow the dust off my 53 champ and give it another go.

If you like Lotrol then all good, I personally like AoC and with the up coming expansion with no level cap increase(end content more or less only) there is a lot to look forward too :-)
LOTRO is a good game, one of the best released since WoW was released, but it's no match for WOW when it comes to combat responsivity and mechanics, group/raid content, and content in general. LOTRO is not bad, but in the same genre, WoW is still miles above.

I believe Vanilla Wow was amazing. BC and WRATH have made WoW too different than what I fell in love with.
My top three MMO'S of all time, based on my personal experience is, FFXI, LOTRO, and (vanilla) WoW, in that order.
WoW does many things well, but i think it's sold out its vision of the game for profit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. They earn every single penny. But, to say that the current WoW is anything like when it was released, is disingenuous.

Don't make me laugh... well, we don't have the same sense for quality, apparently
Don't pretend your notion of "quality" is nothing more than your opinion.
You obviously may not think so, but by any objective standard, FFXI is one of the most successful MMO's of all time. It doesn't mean it's WoW, but having a consistent 400-500k Subscriber base for 7 years = success.
In the end it doesn't matter. I played the three games i mentioned and I formed my opinion accordingly. Just because you don't share my view of the games doesn't diminish my love/affection/respect for FFXI.

I gave up WoW a little over a year ago I had been playing lotro as a second game for a couple of months beforehand as I had picked up one of the half price life time subscription offers . I had intended on it being something I would play causally but after two months I found i was spending more time in Lotro and enjoying it for the same reasons I originally enjoyed WoW . Also the community is far more mature and nicer . The straw that broke the camels back for me was my guild master accusing me of leaching in an A.V. when i was defending one of the bunkers with a couple more players . ( some idiot had reported us to our repsective gms to make trouble ) . The guild master was a solid pve player and had no idea what she was on about and i thought my god i dont get this kind of attitude in Lotro ever so I left the guild and two weeks later canceled my sub to WoW . As a pverpg game Lotro is better than WoW in my opinion .WoW is a great game if you like endless raids , Bgs and arenas . ( basically 90 percent instanced play since the cross server looking for a group system ) .
The other fantasy mmo i ve tried is Age of Conan . Lots of people have totally hated this game but I found it to be a lot of fun . Its not something I would recomend for years of play but its certainly got some fun to be had in it as a short term stop gap . Looking forward to trying the godslayer xpac sometime soon as well .
If your looking at the free to play market Runes of Magic is pretty good and is possible to play without the dreaded cash shop . Although it may be wise to invest in a mount. Dungeons and Dragons Online is also worth a look as well ( in fact its the third most popular mmo amongst players that have given up WoW .
In 2011 theres a whole load of fantasy and scifi mmos being released any of the games above would tide you over untill then .
Theres plenty of great options outside of Warcraft once you leave and all of them are a lot better than the WoW fanbois would have you believe they are .
I played LotRO for a couple months and Oh Dear God was it BORING.
I was able to stomach Angmar but Moria ....Moria made me quit. I held on foolishly thinking Mirkwood would make the game bearable enough to make it through Moria but I tripped at the goal line. I finally quit at level 57.
Only play LotRO if you are a hardcore soloer. No one does the non max level instances anymore, finding people for group quests can impossible most of the time.
Also, the "mature and nicer" community doesnt mean people actually know what they are doing. In the instance groups I was able to find the other players, especially tanks, were mostly awful.

I've not had any problem doing the group instances while leveling . Its important to find a kinship though because they will help you .If you go into the game with a bad unfriendly attitude you will end up soloing most of it . If your friendly and helpful to other players they return the favour . Mature and Nicer does'nt mean they don't know what they are doing lol it means just that the players are normally 18+ and helpful .Again its a matter of preferance I would rather be in a party of people that arn't calling each other noob all the time .
I have had to put one person on my ignore list in just over a year and not because I dont encounter a similar volume of people to medium Warcraft server .Lotro is a different game to WoW its focus is more on traditional story based rpg elements where WoW is more of a raid /battleground/arena centric game these days. Its easier to get into the action quicker in WoW but if you like questing WoWs game world is pretty much dead now since the cross server looking for a group system and leveling via battle grounds .

Wow's game world dead ??? God, what nonsense you read these days.
In another thread there is a 220 post thread it is not an mmorpg, Now it is dead.
ALL coming from people who don't even play it. Oh they "play" WOW in their heads and dream up just another game that doesn't even exist.
I must be dreaming when I meet those hundreds of people every night in Icecrown, Storm Peaks and WIntergrasp.
And what do you think really? That the open world quests are no longer being played just because people ALSO run dungeons these days ? Dungeons that at least CAN be run these days...
Man ... PLAY the game will you, instead of fabricating things.

Played Wow for 4 years.. now playing LotRO for the last 4 months.
I'm in love with LotRO... Nothing agianst WoW, but the community in WoW is a gamebreaker. (among a million other recent developments).

Honestly there are so many diffrent options.
Most have a free trial or are free.
Click on the game list tab (yes on this website) sort however you want, try some out.
Worst case scenario: you find out you still like wow and go back....not such a big deal.
I know its a big scary world out there post wow, but youll get though it.
Oh and dont fall into forum generated hype, you cant trust people on the internet like you use to.
LotRO has a lot of respect. It goes to show that just because you don´t have a billion players you can still have a good game.
