I think it is disgusting for a male to play a female. Someone said earlier" would you rather look at a guy or a girl all day long" this does not apply. When you are playing these games you are RolePlaying. That being said, when your a guy that plays a female in a game you are essentially pretending to acutally be a female. Now maybe I just have more testosterone than some of you guys that play females, but when I play a character "IM" playing the character its ME! im a guy!. If im a male in real life, which I am. Why on earth would I want to pretend to be a female in any situation or game, Im a dude? I cannot even fathom the idea of this. Would this not imply that maybe your are gay(to play a female)? I do not do this but I have heard of guys hitting on female characters. If your a male playing a fem would that not send a disgusting chill down your spin (well it would mine!). I dont understand it and I probably never will, but there is alot of what I call he/shes out there.

My answer is no, BUT since im male I can relate to playing a male NE or whatever alot better than a female. It does not matter what race I play in a game I am still playing male. All those races still have humanistic(is that a word?) qualities.
So to all you guys that play this game just assume that every fem you meet in your encounters is actually a fat bald 45 year old perv/freak. I know some people might be offended by what I said but as always its just my opinion on the matter.
So to answer your question NO I do not think its okay for a guy to play a female. It just creeps people out in general and would make MMO gaming a MUCH more pleasuralble experience for everyone including REAL females.

Who cares what you play online? If someone really cares if you are a male or female playing an actual female character, they need to get out more and walk away from the computer. I dont mind males playing as females AS LONG as they dont hit on your male character or flirt. I personally like playing the human female character in WoW. It allows me something to stare at the entire time I play :P Plus all of her /emotes are great. A lot of guys I noticed on WoW, loved to play the NE female character when one of the servers were down, strip them down to thier underwear and dance the minutes away till the server came back online. At some huge downtimes during the open beta / stress tests some of the NE n00b lands would be full of over 50 dancers. Lots of chick fighting too, but thats what you do for fun while you wait.
with all silliness aside i think you should play whatever is worth your 14.99 a month. whatever is FUN for YOU.
i'm a female. my main will be a female. however i'm definitely going to roll a male char as well. i will always have my main be something i relate more to and have more in common with and well.. for me that would be a female.

Yes it does have things to do with us, lookat real life, do you treat your friends that are girls/girlfriends the same way you treat your male friends? You guys have to keep in mind that this is ONLY A GAME. If you want to find it whether your friend is a male or a female, then just simply ask! If your afraid they are not telling the truth, then make sure you tell whoever asks you the truth because it's true that "what goes around comes around." Just think about it; it makes perfect sense. Why would you want to lie about your sex anyways? There's no point cause females don't get anymore advantage as males do in the game and vice versa.

At least 80% of gamers are male... average age of MMO players being around 23 or so I would guess.
80% of gamers are men yet you see about equal male/females in game.
Most of the female toons you come across are men IRL... get over it. Dont hit on female toons... understand that they are probably men and get a life. Go hit on a chick in a bar somewhere, that might actually get you laid. Forget the lame in-game flirting, its just not cool.
That being said, I have played female characters before in MMOs. I dont roleplay them, though. If anyone asks me if I am really female I answer "Nope."
It is a lot more pleasing to stare at the firm curves of your female toon than it is to stare at the muscular buttocks of your male toon (unless your more than a little gay).
So, to wrap it up... all of you that say "Eww what are you a transvestite??? But truth is I have made stories up as a GM and playing heroes and villans and such and all characters male and female IS indeed a part of me. But they are part OF and is NOT me. I thought the beauty of MMOs is that you can be something you are not. Diff race, diff skills, why not a diff. gender? I played a female human rogue, a male hunter nightelf, and a male warrior tauren. Am I gay? No, but I found it entertaining to play as a female character. I found it fun to RP from a diff perspective. But then I don't play MMOs to get dates. I play for entertainment. If I wanted to pick up a chick I would go to a bar. I didn't bother to read this whole thread because it's always the same...to say this topic is like beating a dead horse is a vast understatement; even the ghost of the horse has been beaten.
IMO, a person's character in a video game is NOT a representation of that person. The character is like to an action figure that the player has control over. If you are the type to want to roleplay YOUR character, so be it. That's one of the many benefits of having freedom in a game. But DON'T project your playstyle on others who don't share your views. Not everyone plays out their character's role in the game. Some people just want a place to go and some form of activity to take part in, and they have every right to do that, as you have the right to RP.
It's become popular opinion to call someone gay, sick, perverted, and/or a "crossdresser", but honestly, like it has been said many, many times before: There are more male players than female players. If someone believes it is ok to hit on a female in a video game, knowing that the male population outnumbers females almost 20 to 1, what can be said about THAT person? Hmmm??? Also, what does that person expect? A date? A cyper-marraige proposal? Cyber? Lol.

Another reason women are chosen alot I think is that the people making these games are guys, and they make some good looking models for females, but 95% of male models for MMO's either look retarded or gay. I think that no one here is really grasping the concept of "wrongness" that most of the people freaking out on this forum are /rant-ing about. Most of us can agree that the image of a hottie NE chick really being a guy dressed in lingerie with a tub of vaseline and ready to cyber with his guildies is a rather disturbing one. Like it or not, that's what many are envisioning when we think of this sort of thing and they find it quite repelling. So, we've got people on one side freaking out about how nauseating and vile they perceive this to be. On the other we have people calling those who really don't relish the thought of this sorta thing closet cases, usually in their most condescending and holier-than-though manners. Funny, because one side is responding to primal instincts while the other is responding to socially conditioned "political correct-ness". Whatever....
I do not believe that the real issue here is whether or not that theoretical vaseline-smeared man is really there or if it's just a question of aesthetics/what-have-you.
The real concern here is deception. The majority of people don't really care for being misled- at all- and understandably so. The fact of the matter is that many people develop real bonds with others in these type of environments- be they friendships, emnities, girlfriend/boyfriend relationships. Exceptions are those who have not played MMO's and solo'ers. I, personally, have several friends that I have made over the years that I keep in touch with and we are pretty close and share a lot with each other. Now, if I were to suddenly find out that one of them had lied to me about something, be it gender, age, nationality- anything, I would be pretty pissed- about some more than others.
To get to the point, there is nothing wrong with wanting to play a female character (being a male) or wanting to play a male character (as a female) is not at all inapropriate and merely a matter of preferrence. However, claiming to be something that you are not is not very cool, regardless of the social setting. So play your character but be yourself- and most of all, have FUN.

Its this simple, either you are A) a hetrosexual man with balls who plays as a male character so he doesnt waste one second of his life attracting the attention of the FEMALES. Or A confused possibly? Bisexual? homosexual? male who plays as a female to attract the attention of other MALES! This reduces the RL female attention to 0. How is this not gay? After seeing many heshes, I had to make a female char just to experience what it would be like. I made a female night elve. The second I logged in, I oogled an awed at her body parts for about 1 minute before becoming bored. It got old real fast. I then realized that there were other primarily RL males playing characters all around me that would find me sexually attractive because I was playing a female! I let out a big yell and puked , then quit because I like female attention not male.
The biggest excuse heshes use is "what would you rather look at, a male ass all day or a female ass all day". I can say that when I play my male characters, I dont look at there asses and even if i did I would think nothing of it because I am not gay. Kinda like watching porn, theres a girl and a guy, but I am not turned on by the guy, I am using the guy to live through, just like I am with my male character. The only thing that matters to me is that RL females would be attracted to my male character.
Can you imagine a game where all the males played males and all the females played female chars, what a concept! That would be a paradise! Sadly when you give people freedom of chioce, they choose to be he-shes and ruin the entire mmorpg world. Because of what these heshes have done, you sadly have to assume that all female chars are male in RL. Even if you ask what the RL sex is, you still can not believe 100%.
I like hitting on women in RL, why especially wouldnt I like hitting on women in MMO life? Its a game yes, but for as long as there are girls playing them, I will be trying to win there attention.

I thought the beauty of MMOs is that you can be something you are not. Diff race, diff skills, why not a diff. gender? I played a female human rogue, a male hunter nightelf, and a male warrior tauren. Am I gay? No, but I found it entertaining to play as a female character. I found it fun to RP from a diff perspective. But then I don't play MMOs to get dates. I play for entertainment. If I wanted to pick up a chick I would go to a bar. By the way I fit the demographic listed earlier. 22 male in college

I didn't bother to read this whole thread because it's always the same...to say this topic is like beating a dead horse is a vast understatement; even the ghost of the horse has been beaten.
IMO, a person's character in a video game is NOT a representation of that person. The character is like to an action figure that the player has control over. If you are the type to want to roleplay YOUR character, so be it. That's one of the many benefits of having freedom in a game. But DON'T project your playstyle on others who don't share your views. Not everyone plays out their character's role in the game. Some people just want a place to go and some form of activity to take part in, and they have every right to do that, as you have the right to RP.
It's become popular opinion to call someone gay, sick, perverted, and/or a "crossdresser", but honestly, like it has been said many, many times before: There are more male players than female players. If someone believes it is ok to hit on a female in a video game, knowing that the male population outnumbers females almost 20 to 1, what can be said about THAT person? Hmmm??? Also, what does that person expect? A date? A cyper-marraige proposal? Cyber? Lol.
They are the perverted ones, not those who simply wish to have a certain type of character in a video game. If someone honestly has a serious problem with males choosing female characters, they need to seek proffesional psychiatric help...or more simply, mind their own buisness.
Umm this is out of hand. If a guy plays a girl char, and some pathetic moron hits on said girl char knowing 95% of the people playing are male then who is to blame? Like someone said before hit on girls in real life not in games...
Its whatever fits the char your trying to make though, if in your eyes all healers should be female and you make a healer then go female. Being a big brawny man in a priest's dress will be alot worse than immature morons hitting on your female char.
Another reason women are chosen alot I think is that the people making these games are guys, and they make some good looking models for females, but 95% of male models for MMO's either look retarded or gay. Male humans in WoW? Give me a break they look ridiculous in anything but heavy armor with a helmet on. If I wanted to be the guy on the 20 cent can of baked beans at the local grocery store i'd move to texas and chop wood.

I think that no one here is really grasping the concept of "wrongness" that most of the people freaking out on this forum are /rant-ing about. Most of us can agree that the image of a hottie NE chick really being a guy dressed in lingerie with a tub of vaseline and ready to cyber with his guildies is a rather disturbing one. Like it or not, that's what many are envisioning when we think of this sort of thing and they find it quite repelling. So, we've got people on one side freaking out about how nauseating and vile they perceive this to be. On the other we have people calling those who really don't relish the thought of this sorta thing closet cases, usually in their most condescending and holier-than-though manners. Funny, because one side is responding to primal instincts while the other is responding to socially conditioned "political correct-ness". Whatever....
I do not believe that the real issue here is whether or not that theoretical vaseline-smeared man is really there or if it's just a question of aesthetics/what-have-you.
The real concern here is deception. The majority of people don't really care for being misled- at all- and understandably so. The fact of the matter is that many people develop real bonds with others in these type of environments- be they friendships, emnities, girlfriend/boyfriend relationships. Exceptions are those who have not played MMO's and solo'ers. I, personally, have several friends that I have made over the years that I keep in touch with and we are pretty close and share a lot with each other. Now, if I were to suddenly find out that one of them had lied to me about something, be it gender, age, nationality- anything, I would be pretty pissed- about some more than others.
To get to the point, there is nothing wrong with wanting to play a female character (being a male) or wanting to play a male character (as a female) is not at all inapropriate and merely a matter of preferrence. However, claiming to be something that you are not is not very cool, regardless of the social setting. So play your character but be yourself- and most of all, have FUN.

You are in a real live mmo world with real live male and females playing behind their screens.
Its this simple, either you are A) a hetrosexual man with balls who plays as a male character so he doesnt waste one second of his life attracting the attention of the FEMALES. Or
A confused possibly? Bisexual? homosexual? male who plays as a female to attract the attention of other MALES! This reduces the RL female attention to 0. How is this not gay? You are only attracting male attention? Males are looking at you with lust. If you like male attention and are male would that not make you gay or bi?
After seeing many heshes, I had to make a female char just to experience what it would be like. I made a female night elve. The second I logged in, I oogled an awed at her body parts for about 1 minute before becoming bored. It got old real fast. I then realized that there were other primarily RL males playing characters all around me that would find me sexually attractive because I was playing a female! I let out a big yell and puked
, then quit because I like female attention not male.
The biggest excuse heshes use is "what would you rather look at, a male ass all day or a female ass all day". I can say that when I play my male characters, I dont look at there asses and even if i did I would think nothing of it because I am not gay. Kinda like watching porn, theres a girl and a guy, but I am not turned on by the guy, I am using the guy to live through, just like I am with my male character. The only thing that matters to me is that RL females would be attracted to my male character.
Can you imagine a game where all the males played males and all the females played female chars, what a concept! That would be a paradise!

I like hitting on women in RL, why especially wouldnt I like hitting on women in MMO life? Its a game yes, but for as long as there are girls playing them, I will be trying to win there attention.
Im sorry but this is what I do in game. I honestly cant stand you guys who play girls, if I know for sure that you are a guy in RL, I will not team with you, help or give you buffs of any kind. You ruin the mmo games IMO so you get nothing from me. I wish WOW had a gender policy like Ragnarok limiting the sex you play to the sex you registered as. Then it might actually be a true representation of a real fantasy world.
