Another amazing idea from Cryptic it seems... So, not only will a person need to get 5 people to pay for the game, all 5 of them must subscribe after a month..?.....
In all honesty, I just dont see that happening. But hey, if they have the money to waste on it, then more power to them! They will get to enjoy that ship!
Just another food for thought. I am a lifetimer, I got to play as a reclaimed borg which in its own right has a couple powers that are not available to others. Was that wrong for cryptic to do? Would I mind if they made reclaimed borg a player race? Nope, not at all. Would others? maybe, maybe not. I didnt buy my lifetime subscription for extra perks. I bought it for the love of the game and what it will be like down the road.
To me its pretty simple. You dont like the cstore, dont use it. You dont like someone getting something that you cant get, well, get 5 people to join or pay it yourself, then you can get it. The point is, its all about choice. you either do or you dont. there is no need for all this bashing of the company simply because they choose to try and make money. You guys are complaining about silly stuff in my opinion.
I am a Lifer too .... but i cant honestly defend the game like you are doing! I have accepted my loss and am willing to be called out on it...as being taken!
Why! Wecause i luv Star Trek.... and Cryptic Hyped it up enough to sell it to me... then when i saw the mess ..in Open beta ... i thought wait lets see what happens at release as games always have that extra content at release! Oh ...no but 2 of feb nothing changed then i read about the 45days Patch that will solve all the content issues! .... Oh wait ...but if i decide to wait for 45 days i loose the ablity to get a refund.... so i ingnore the forum rants and i quits ..and join the ranks of its comming in the 45 day patch....!!!!
Oh... 45day patch came ..... and ..went ..(52 days).... But dont worry ..STF's are comming right and more content in season 1...RIGHT! ..... and so we all wait for the SEASON 1 .... RIGHT .....WRONG! ... same thing happens..!
This is a Pathetic game and Cryptic just strings clients along..to keep Subs comming in.... and in all hounesty they have added Jack shit ...to this game in 3 months .... except..3 missions which are so pathetic.... that it makes me sick ..! But i spent the $300 and got my Borg... toon ...which helps me alot ..considering i now have sweet nothing to do in game... !

Kind of makes me wonder how many of the other lifers are sitting waiting for the game to deliver on its promises... Cryptic needs to be more proactive, more content/patches and less fluff in the cash shop.. people are bound to complain when they see time/resources spent on things to sell to the players rather than doing what needs to be done! .. seriously though i wonder if the game will even still be there in 3 months time..

I dont feel that way. Maybe because I saw how the game was during beta and I knew what to expect.

I agree, no worthwhile content has been put out. Suposedly we will get content in the next update but I am skeptical as to just how much we will get. But, I bought the lifetime membership knowing that it is going to take them time to get this stuff out. Hey, I am in the same boat as you are with nothing to do. I log in and do my 1 daily and log out. Occasionally I log in and do another set of explore missions but that is it. I want content now to, but I also already expected that this was going to take them a while. I will say and have said before, I enjoyed every bit of the game going from 1-45. I enjoyed the stories, I felt like I was in my own episodes and had a blast. I fully expect that I will again when they are able to get the stories cranked out. To many people went into this expecting to much, IMO. They want everything that star trek has to offer and there was no way they could get that out in the 2 year dev cycle. All I can say is that I think that given time they are going to make some good strides with this game, but that is going to depend on them at least giving out content on a regular basis and not just for raids.
Kind of makes me wonder how many of the other lifers are sitting waiting for the game to deliver on its promises... I will say that it will still be here in 3 months, 6 months and hopefully years to come but that is going to depend on them getting out more content. I will say if they dont put out any content with this next update, it will probably put out a huge portion of their playerbase. Speculation of course and I hope that it doesn't come to that.
Us lifers got the captains table. One of the 400 day rewards for playing the game is access to the captains table. Should we be pissed that you will have access to something that was exclusively given to us? I don't see a problem with it personally. I didnt buy the lifetime membership to get exclusive in game items. I bought the game because I liked it. I bought the lifetime subscription because I felt it will be worth it in the end. Both decisions I still do not regr
i think im starting "get it"
honestly doomsday, have you read the official sto forums????
in regards to the refferal program the most common thing said (and im summing up what many are saying) is that either i cant in good concience recommend this game to my friends or i cant afford to piss 5 friends off that badly by letting them get ripped off.
this is coming from people who are still playing and "like" the game.
you can call people here haters all you want, but the fact is when people are driving down the road and see a car crash they slow down and look or they stop and try to help (helping when it comes to sto is warning others not to buy it). sto is a car hit by a train that was carrying a plane on a bridge with a cruise ship about to hit.
and its fun to follow how unproffesional and incompetent cryptic is.
if you want myself (and possibly others) to stop making fun of cryptic
a- have the company apologize for insulting all of us by stating that we "just dont get it"
b- have cryptic stop making decisions that beg to be laughed at
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

Obviously you didnt read any of my posts. I said I didnt like the raf system either, but I am not up in arms about it like so many other people are. And tell me where, in any of my posts that you think I dont visit the sto forums on a regular basis? I have even mentioned things that were said in the exact thread so many people have been quoting here.
There is a difference between constructive criticism and most of the crap that has been posted in this thread. I am all up for debating some of the stupid things that cryptic may do or say, as I might even agree with you on some of them, but nobody deserves the kind of hate that gets spewed out here.
my apologies doomsday about the not reading the forums, your right, i shouldnt have made that comment.
as to constructive criticism, mines on the sto forums and the fixes to which "will be coming in a patch soon".
but thats the point, the most complained about things should have been in the game at release. defending cryptics blatant cash grabs is only a troll for people who feel cryptic knowingly released a game that was incomplete and not worth the 15$ sub let alone the box price. and im pretty sure those people are not a minority.
its one thing for people to say they didnt like a game, when 85% of people say they wont buy a game from the same company again, thats a little more than "the game didnt meet my expectations"

I will be the first to admit that I dont think the game was ready at launch. Yes it did have enough content to get you to max level but that is it. While you would think that is a good thing to at least get you to max level, it isn't simply because it is only about 3 weeks of content at playing a few hours a night. For those that play 12+ hours, they were probably max level in a few days. I will say that I feel I got my moneys worth for the price of the box and I bought the collectors edition. Heck I bought a standard edition of the latest call of duty and had it beat in 6 hours. Now that game I didnt feel I got my moneys worth and the standard edition was about 10 bucks higher than most other games on the market.
I dont believe that 85% number. Just like I dont care for rankings of the games which gets ranked with people not even playing many of the games. This site is not a valid site, in my opinion, to gauge a games success or failure. There are tons and tons of trolls on this message board that seem to devote their existance to slap down every video game that doesn't conform to exactly what they want out of a video game regardless if it is actually fun or not.
I just can't believe that a company would so blatantly try to rip people off.
AND PEOPLE STILL BUY IT
God my species is half full of idiots.
Playing: *sigh* back to WoW -------- Waiting for: SW:TOR, APB, WoD --------- Played and loved: Eve and WoW -------- Played and hated: WoW:WotLK, Warhammer, every single F2P

cryptic has a sales target to meet in order to make a 20 million dollar bonus, dont blame them, id do it too for that kind of money. (and im not saying its ethical in any way)
and if you read thru the forums here and on the official sto forums, actually not many people are buying it any more, hence the promo. (i love reading about how people cant/wont even try to recruit 5 friends the game is so bad)
and seriously, read the posts of the few people here who try to defend the game and/or cryptic. they dont, they attack other people and try to change the subject, because there isnt much good to say about the game except that the graphics are ok (and some would debate that).

People who've already paid, or are such pathological Star Trek fans, will pay any amount of money for any little unique scrap of Star Trek content. The argument that this is Cryptic's game, they can make any business decision they please, seems misguided at best.
Most legit companies in other merchandise selling sectors of the world have regulatory bodies, watchdog agencies, and consumer fraud protection as part of the day to day checks and balances on their goods. The only thing video games have is word of mouth to keep people from getting screwed by unscrupulous companies. When companies sold childrens toys made in China with lead paint, people didn't say "well I can deal with the fact I got screwed". When people bought certain model Toyota cars and then found out there was a serious potentially life threatening defect in the product they didn't say "woops, guess I got pooched on that one".
Don't try and delude yourself into believing that a video game that requires a subscription is not a retail product that *should* be subject to quality assurance checks, not just when its first released but also along the road as it ages. When you subscribe to something, based upon information relased by the company, its based on the assumption that the information is truthful, and they will in good faith continue to provide that product for your subscription fee.
If a company that is dishonest or deceiving has to face no consequences for those deceitful actions then its open season on consumers. At the moment there is little other than word of mouth through game forums, and bad PR from *some* game review sites to keep most companies in the video game industry from really trying to rip people off. But their are still companies willing to try.
At this point people are just morbidly fascinated with this specific game, and this specific company. To be honest I don't have a problem with them venting their frustration, because its not like there are many other places to do it. You don't like the tone of the thread or the posts, no one is making you read, other than yourself. The fact that you've posted close to a dozen times in this thread alone says that you have a vested interest in defending some particular point of view, which if you're a lifetime subscriber to a game that appears to be the biggest pull the wool over the eyes, kick in the balls, MMO screw-up since SOE's NGE, would make sense.
The fact that you're willing to bend over and take it with no lube is what Cryptic was counting on. People who've already paid, or are such pathological Star Trek fans, will pay any amount of money for any little unique scrap of Star Trek content. I'm going to make a 3rd party statement here. I mean 3rd party as in i havn't played STO. I am ONLY going to make a statement about the original topic comment about the RAF/Cash Mall Items.
I'm going to compare STO's RAF/Cash Mall system to WoW. I play WoW and am familiar with its RAF/Blizz store.
STO: Having to R5F AND have them pay an addional month subscription to get an In-game item is completly outrageous and blantly a cash grab scheme by ANYONES standard for a typical P2P MMO. Secondly the item in question is an item that has GAME BALANCING and mechanic advantages. That fact that the ONLY way to get said item is to R5F and said item will give you an advantage over other players is completly BS imo. This item is NOT a cosmetic item, it is an item that give the player an advantage over others.
Their Cash mall system of making you pay for emotes is a joke really. I mean come on, to get an emote i have pay for it LOL. The paying for different skins is ok, because its purely cosmetic. The different races for purchase is questionable really. They have special traits that affect gameplay.
WoW: I recruited 2 "friends" (i gave my self 2 other accounts) to get the cool zherva mount and the XP bonus so i could lvl my toons quicker. The mount is purely cosmetic. It does NOT affect the game in any way shape or form. It wont give me an adavntage over another player. The XP bonus will let me lvl faster than other players, however WoW is really about endgame anyways so this ultimently wont give a player an advantage over others.(Some may think this is debatable)
The Blizz store allowed you to purchase the special panda and KT pets for a charity. These pets are conpletly cosmetic. They are just for show. The New spectral mount is completly cosmetic aswell. The Card game for WoW has items you can only get if you play the game. They are not game breakers nor do they give you an advantage over others
Now in WoW you can get other pets and mounts in the game by other means that real life money.

That is my 2 cents.
im sorry chopstix, but you seem to be one of those that "just doesn't get it"

I See what you did.......................... (Btw that emote cost me 120 CP points )
So do you have an active subscription? Have you ever had an active subscription? There is a difference between voicing opinions and being down right rude and obnoxious to the company. heck in this thread alone there are people that don't like the game and feel that bashing it is fun and yet they haven't even played it. Free speech is one thing, spreading misinformation and bashing for the sake of bashing, is something else.
I'm going to reiterate...the customer is *always* right.
I've only skimmed through this thread but I saw something interesting that I think needed to be pointed out. While I haven't checked EVERY post I have seen several pages worth and read through the pages I landed on and what I noticed was this.....
You seem to be the ONLY person defending Cryptic or this game breaking perk. Normally the debate on things like this is fairly 50/50 and it can be a bit one sided at times, but never have I seen a thread where there was basically one person defending there game or the devs behind it.
That alone should tell you something lol.
In any case, can anyone really say they didn't see this comming. To play borg you had to be a lifer like Doomsday, to get numerous other perks you had to pre-order multiple copies of the game like many that use to defend the game did. To play certain races you had to buy them off of the C-store. If no one saw a game breaking advantage comming that could only be gotten by out of game means then you haven't followed CO or STO.
Like every mess like this they will let it ride for awhile and see how bad the chit storm is and then try to back peddle and make it available other ways. There trying to grab as much cash as they can, when it fails and causes an uproar they find someone to blame act like it's all that persons fault and was a mistake and try to fix it.
Of course they do wait to try and fix it until after they've made at least some cash with w/e ... well plainly put unethical... marketing scheme they come up with. Shoddy games, Quick pump and dump style development, Massive mostly unethical Cash grabs, and the 3 month try to save our arse campaigne to try and stop the hemorrhaging of subs for as long as they can..... thats the Cryptic/Atari way. Get use to it or voice how distasteful you find it.
Doomsday has gotten use to it and seems to accept it as ok. Thats his prerogative. I prefer to let the devs and others know how asinine I find all of this, that happens to be my perogative.
Well then ... I see Cryptic management clearly acted on customer resentment.
^^ Horse = STO customers, Yellow dude = Cryptic riding the customer for all they're worth.
So both KDF and Fed characters can fly the agt galaxy? Won't that make kind of a cluster of pvp missions?
I see they're preparing to flush the last adherence to the ip down the toilet. Remember when Kang took over the enterprise and started blowing away fed ships? Me either.

Maybe they'll make an alternate timeline where the kdf actually becomes the federation. There's really not much difference in how they play in pve from what I've seen and they share the same philosophy at least according to cryptic. The info about it being available to both factions was on the atari support page posted by dstahl.

So I QUIT ....
I will say that it will still be here in 3 months, 6 months and hopefully years to come but that is going to depend on them getting out more content. I will say if they dont put out any content with this next update, it will probably put out a huge portion of their playerbase. Speculation of course and I hope that it doesn't come to that.
quoted from doomday1
I am all up for debating some of the stupid things that cryptic may do or say, as I might even agree with you on some of them, but nobody deserves the kind of hate that gets spewed out here.
my apologies doomsday about the not reading the forums, your right, i shouldnt have made that comment.
as to constructive criticism, mines on the sto forums and the fixes to which "will be coming in a patch soon".
but thats the point, the most complained about things should have been in the game at release. defending cryptics blatant cash grabs is only a troll for people who feel cryptic knowingly released a game that was incomplete and not worth the 15$ sub let alone the box price. and im pretty sure those people are not a minority.
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/276296/would-u-buy-another-cryptic-game.html
its one thing for people to say they didnt like a game, when 85% of people say they wont buy a game from the same company again, thats a little more than "the game didnt meet my expectations"
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
Playing: *sigh* back to WoW

Waiting for: SW:TOR, APB, WoD

cryptic has a sales target to meet in order to make a 20 million dollar bonus, dont blame them, id do it too for that kind of money.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
[Mod Edit]
OMG, so eloquent. +1
Ya, that was good. Very good. Very very true too.

I bet the ship is going to be bugged and not usuable for a month for any joker who got it--that would be par for the course.
Cryptic has moved the main rant against Referralgate off the main discussion forum. No doubt more hilarity will ensue.
So both KDF and Fed characters can fly the agt galaxy? Won't that make kind of a cluster of pvp missions?
I see they're preparing to flush the last adherence to the ip down the toilet. Remember when Kang took over the enterprise and started blowing away fed ships? Me either.
