I don't really understand how you can hate "quest hubs"  I.E. leveling based on quests. What would you rather do, go back to the whole "kill 5,000 monsters of slightly lower level to advance" thing? Because that was absolutely mind-numbing.

I give you another: its the same game of which EQ2 and Vanguard are clones...

About the thread question itself, nope.

Not going to play Lineage 2 or Guild Wars ever again. Well OK GW is free, but still its hella boring.

Definitely planning on trying Vanguard again. Only reason I left was because of lack of players.

Biggest of them all was for me SOE and CU (NGE) in SWG. This takes the prize for me.

And the launch of warhammer ... age of registration(took days for them to sort it out).

Yes, aslong as it's in groups and the battles are challenging like in FFXI. Group grinding is way funner than questing. You'd have to have played oldschool MMOs and singleplayer RPGs to see why MMO quests are utter crap.

EQ : I hated the corpse runs. Nothing like leaving a bunch of bodies in the zone because you kept dying trying to get to the first. I also tried one of the PvP servers. Nothing like being crossteamed, sure you couldn't attack someone of your faction but you sure could heal and buff them.

Horizions : Everything lol. I wanted the game to be like it was going to be before "the blackout".

FFXI : Waiting for hours for a group. I also hated that everyone wanted to hunt in the same zones. So many zones of the same level, but I guess we'll go hunt in the same zone that s overcamped anyways. /sigh

DDO: Creatures don't drop loot, instanced everything, no world to speak of.

WoW : I didn't like the quest hubs either. I like exploring and the quest hubs take away that feeling. At least take oway the giant ! over their heads.

Runescape: I thought WoW had an immature playerbase, RS takes the cake.

WaR : I thought it was going to be a sweet PvP game. INstead everyone was doing battlegrounds. /shudder

EQ2 : I am currently playing EQ2. I'm still only a lowbie (high 30s) but I don't like how all the towns feel like ghost towns.

WoW: The Loremaster achievement...I though I blocked that out for good, but it was just hiding behind all the endless rep grinding, daily doing, token farming, raid researching, stat calculating other crap.

WoW: My account was stolen in BC and goldfarmers played my character to 80 in Wrath, I got it back with Wrath added to the account and was like 'cool' its not all bad i guess, until the farmers made a chargeback for the WoTLK expansion, and blizzard told me my account was now frozen until I payed them for the expansion plus one month. Not so much a cringe, more of a fuck that, and thank you for ending my addiction. :)

    UO,AC1&2,EQ1&2,DAOC,SB,SWG,FFXI, Horizons,EvE,E&B,AO,WoW,VG, Lineage,GW,TR,LotR,AoC,CoH,DDO a myriad of FtP...and still looking...

the long.long.long.long and tedious, tedious Master level raids in TOA. OMG, all i remember is auto following peeps, and the raid leaders constantly screaming at you, with most people afk. i loved daoc, but TOA eventually drove me to the classic servers.

The realization I had last week that I was in my 30s, married with children and a fulltime job and would likely never be able to re-recreate all the MMORPG fun I had before I was married and when I had more free time. That and well the newness factor is a bit burnt out of most everything out there. All the new MMOs have nothing new to learn. We need an MMO paradignm shift.  Though my first MMO memory is within 5 mins of starting Everquest mistakenly attacking a guard and dieing and having no idea what happened.

I love LOTRO, life time sub, but I completely agree. It seems like they didn't have any real ideas on how to obtain these deeds, so they just came up with a crazy time sink and grind for those deeds in order to make up for their lack of creative ways to acquire those deeds/traits.

Here's mine, in two words        Leeeerrooyyyy Jeeeenkins

This is a player thing, but one I seem to experience frequently but more along the lines of TOO many players pulling mobs. Most recently in LOTRO, I was in a group where there were WAY too many chiefs and not enough indians, three people took off and each pulled three different mobs, and adds, almost everyone wiped.

EQ - the amount of time it took to kill mobs

DAoC - 15 minute wait to go back to emain

WoW - The boring "classic" areas. I still get bored thinking about it.

Those were the days. It felt so magical, didn't it? I miss that feeling of being clueless.

DDO - repeating the same quest to get a sliver of the exp needed to level

WoW - the fact that I played the game... it made me understand what "Mind-numbing" really means

Questing in any WoW clone like WAR, LotR, AoC, EQ2, etc. I mean, questing in WoW is alright.. atleast until level 50 when I had to force myself to get to the end-game, but questing in those games are just second rate versions of the same exact thing.

I don't think I've ever seen anything funnier than someone calling EQ2 a WoW clone. Like umm, did the 2 part throw you off?

    Yeah, EQ2 isn't even a good EQ1 clone....

Of course, since launch, EQ2 has BECOME more and more of a WoW clone.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

This is exactly what was awesome about EQ.  Chance could make you fizzle until you were out of mana, an element of danger.  You had to be resourceful to survive.

On a similar note, I've seen people mention meditation(staring at your spellbook to recover mana, essentially blind) on this thead, ...also awesome.  I remember meditating in the Oasis of Marr and if your fellow adventurers didn't warn you of a nearby Sand Giant, you get squished.  I miss the sense of community and danger.

Today's MMOs.... Log in, press 'GO'.... 'WIN'

Like music, movies, and books... Everything is dumbed down to achieve mainstream popularity.  Go Capitalism go!

Walking from the zone-in to the Ghoul Lord in lower guk without encountering a single mob, just group after group after group... all waiting for something to spawn.

The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night.

AION - Fraking Grind, After lvl 25 or so I ran the Fire Temple instance 17 times in a row .After the 17th one I deactivated my account.

Darkfall - Macro against the wall , macro against water, wall of pain ( those who played  will know) and actual PV that lasted 40 seconds.

STO - Loved the space combat but ground combat was enough to deactivate account

I can list so many it would take hours to put them all down, but these three really stick out the most memorable.

AC2 - trying to keep the furnace stoked to rebuild a city.   This is cringe worthy.

Vanguard - Unicorn Mount Quest Line - cringe worthy...so cringe worthy that I didn't finish the quest because by the time I made it that far I hated unicorns.   I use to go out of my way after that to kill them.

WoW - grinding faction points - any faction.

Myth of Soma: Losing all of my in game cash by being spawn raped. -_-

Cabal: Some of the final maze/dungeon quests, which were impossible due to monsters which locked onto you so you ended up with an army afer you. :0

LoTRO - pvp  A player taunted another player whose mother had passed away.  They then followed them around for an hour using the a laugh emote.

EQ - Sony made boss mobs virtually immune to fire and ice nukes.  It made evocation build druids useless.  With over 900 AA levels at a time when AA levels were earnt the hard way, it turned me permanently off investing a lot of time in a single toon.

EQ1 - Getting on the boat to Kunark in Butcherblock Mountains and lagging off the boat into the water of Timorous Deep and watching the boat sail off. Oh and no maps.

Running from South Qeynos to Greater Faydark and getting one shotted by a red before you can rebind.

Lotro - Grinding hundreds of (insert mob) for deed, to then go and get another in the next area for the same Creature.

Playing a minstrel felt like playing a bard in eq (irony?) strumming keys 1-8 repeatedly every fight.

Eve - Going after some cheap items in a nearby system my first week, and getting my ship and capsule destroyed AFTER purchasing the items. Great  learning experience.

Tabula Rasa - I took a trial on November 10, 2008. I bought the game on November 16 2008 and added my key immediately. On November 21 2008 the closure of the game was announced :(
