    You are totally mistaken.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Bioware. They're the ones that made Forgotten Realms big in the first place.

Um, no they didn't. Forgotten Realms was "made big" by TSR...
And if you're talking video games, I'd easily argue that teh Gold Box series of games did more for the FR setting. Either way, as I said above, they won't be using MY Forgotten Realms they'll be using the new 4th edition version of which to me doesn't exist. So I'm cool with a company like Cryptic using it as I won't be playing it..

I'd say Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Icewind Dale (not made by Bioware but made using their engine) have the Gold Box series rather handily beat in the fame department.

You can argue the merits of the games until you're blue in the face, but there's no arguing which series of games modern day players are more familiar with.

If it IS DnD Faerun/Forgotten Realms and these jokers ruin it, I hope WOTC sue them into an early grave.

Forgotten Realms is so damn big. You can't just "tease" us by telling you're doing an FR MMO. Looking at Atari, my guess is Neverwinter Nights. If so, I'd rather play a Diablo MMO :s

Also, I hope Cryptic will develop a new engine (wishful thinking I guess), and use more than the CO and STO missions for quests. If Cryptic keeps up the "good work" as they done in CO and STO, I guess the new FR MMO will be dead before even started. Cryptic should keep in mind that most FR fans have already played their share of MMOs, so this audience won't fall for empty promises as done for CO and STO...

On the other hand, a failure of this FR MMO could mean a boost for Turbine's DDO ;)

I would hate to see a great ip like FR in the hands of such a shabby company...

  • EridanixEridanix Member Posts: 426

Make me fear they will broke the vastness of an open and perilous world like FR with their mentality of unaccountable instances so little and their random quests. FR is one of my fave IP's.... They will screw it up to the roots, and we will be fucked up once again by Craptyc.

It is a question of fangs.

I'm not saying they did. I am saying it is possible, and it would explain their practices.

    I'd bet they did.

The whole strategy with CO+STO seemed to be to make one game and release it as two back-to-back to two different audiences. They produced two games for the price of one cheap one, charged for them as AAA products, and probably have made a killing. It was probably Atari's ultimatum.

A goofy clusterfuck setting like 4E FR seems a perfect match for Cryptic, to me. I'm interested.

There is one big name IP out there that is huge cash cow for another company, so my bet is that Cryptic will try to get some 'milk' from that cow by releasing a game named 'Craft of War World' which will just be Champions Online with a fantasy skin.

If only that was true - Blizzard would sue them into oblivion.

Look at all the lemmings that rushed out to buy STO after seeing what they did to CO. Cryptic will continue making half-assed games as long as people continue buying them up.

and the giant meteor will hit earth next week. Honestly, at least get some restrain in the speculation. By the way, for trying to use Wow set a little to close there is already a game and its name is Alganon, I pretty much doubt another company is going to try it after the rain of critics over Alganon's creators.

Based on the past actions, they might get another non exploited but still popular (not necessarily huge) IP and make a game based on it.  I wouldn't care much about the reskinning, as long there is a significant difference in gameplay. Wow, Aion, WAR, AoC are pretty much similar sword and magic games with more similarities than differences and I dont see too many people crying about it.

Soooo, by "New Cryptic MMO" they mean just another new title right? Cause the last few games they've put out have been exactly the same game with different names and skins.

Bill: Find new work; something that doesn't allow you to speak to the media or market. I'm trying to not be offensive here but pretty much a majority of gamers can't stand you & do not trust one word out of your mouth. Ever since you blew your load on Hellgate and slaughtered what credibility you had in the industry, you've done nothing but let the player base of games down; repeatedly. Pretty much, it comes down to this: If YOU praise it, or brag about it, or market it as the next 'big' thing, there are a lot of us who won't touch it. Furthermore, the company you work for pretty much has the same reputation.

Bill: For the love of all that remains holy in this world: Get a new picture. We're tired of looking at you reaching for a new idea.

Depends on how its done.  If its half baked like STO, then it will be another flop.  If not, it might have a chance of retaining a semi decent player base.

Yep; Roper was in charge of CO while it was in development, but didn't get into STO until after release when he was moved to Cryptic's CCO position.

In regards to the tweet, isn't it a bit early to start the hype machine? Cryptic's (and then Atari's once they bought them) business plan called for MMOs to be pushed out every 18 - 24 months. Isn't this Summer a bit early to see the next one, or are they cutting down their already ridiculously short development cycle?

Isnt Bill Roper the guy responsible for Cryptics latest Champions Online and Star Trek Online disasters?

I think whatever else that has his name attached to it will be better of not to be.

Have Cryptic settled the legal aspects if the IP is based on neverwinter nights? Last i heard the IP owner was in court trying to get the rights back.

All they need to do is dress this game up in a different skin and they'll be ready for launch in about a month.

    That's probably exactly what's happening.

People have to stop playing Cryptic games.  All it does is fuel their ability to make crappy games out of great IPs, thereby wasting their potential.

I don't trust neither Bill Roper nor Jack Emmert, it seems like they have no idea what MMO players really want.

Wow these guys remind me of Enron, totally clueless as to what is really going on around them, they have two games that are absolute booboo and they are twitting about another game in the pipeline?  Oh and I love how he eludes to how quickly they are able to do testing on their games.  If I'm not mistaken this is akin to the same problem Cryptic is having with CO and STO they released not one but two games devoid of content and systems more quickly than any other mmo has ever been released.

While all conventional wisdom should suggest that they will learn that people don't want to play these vanilla mmo's they make they don't seem to learn their lessons and it's why they remind me of Enron, Enron followed the mantra as long as they just didn't admit they were losing money people would always give them money until the bottom dropped out it looks like we may soon have the mmo equivalent......

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
