I know Bioware are a highly capable team, but in the end this is a pretty different venture for them, so i hope all goes well, they will get a hell of a lot of subs, but it's mere speculation at the moment at how many they'll be able to keep.
I'm waiting for the backlash when SWTOR does not live up to the fans expectations. And trust me it won't, they never do when there is this much hype.
I think most learnt that lesson by now, at least the vet SWG players and other vets from around those times and before.
Lol...you are seriously kidding yourself if you actually believe this. If anything, many have proven time and time again that this lesson is unobtainable for them.
Although it does make for some entertaining forums.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Originally posted by Daywolf ooook. Do you know what the most popular Star Wars game of all time was? Do you know what mmo SWG players were actually clamoring for when SWG was in development? After SWG was released, what game they chanted for? After the CU and NGE debacle what game they petitioned for? There in lies your answer.
Many MMOers will definitely turn to SWTOR but I actually think the game will mostly draw from the non-mmo gamers who love the Star Wars universe. I already got some friends of mine who are going to play the game and haven't even touched the "cool-game-to-play" WoW and no I'm not saying it in a negative way.
Reminds me of so many other mmo's that have come out and not been good i hope it is good would be a nice change of pace. We dont need any more STO's Tabula rasa' aion's etc never lived up to there hype.
WoW success didn't come from MMORPG fanbois.
If TOR has the same sort of success, it will be because they also don't get their subscriber base primarily from MMORPG fanbois.
In other words, the majority of subscribers won't even be aware there was any hype until the game releases and they see ads for the game, and it's on the store shelves.
