Need a decent PvP MMO to last me for 6+ months..

SkillzerooSkillzeroo Member Posts: 96

I've been bouncing around between games and just can't find one to settle into, I'm looking for one that has PvP that will keep me busy for AT LEAST 6 months but years would be more than ideal.

-WoW is out of the question

-LoTRO is out of the question

-City of Heroes / Villians out of the question

-Fallen Earth is out of the question

-EVE Online... Tried it, Kind of boring and got sick of being gate / station camped by people with 3 years of training over me

-WAR is a possibility but it seems like its dying, also appears to be too much like WoW

-AoC is another possibility, I've heard PvP is more grinding than anything now, though

-Global Agenda has too small of a population and is too repetitive for me

-Darkfall is a possibility but the stiff animations, casting, and the "skill grind" for 6 months to be competitive is kind of a turn off

-Mortal Online is a possibility that I'd like to try but I'm not sure how it will play out

So... What can you tell me about the games I considered possibilites? Are there other games that feature PvP as a MAJOR (doesnt need to be main, but major) aspect that I've missed that you think I should try?

I'm not sure about the NDA but I'm just going to say I didn't really enjoy the beta... In fact I hated it.

Everything I've seen about APB feels like GlobalAgenda. Instanced arena with a limited number of players, with a lobby to launch games.

I'm kinda in the same boat as the OP. I haven't played an MMO in a while now, nothing has stirred my interest -- and I'm bored of the current crop of games.

AoC is very grindy, most people solo the early levels and skip much of the group content to zoom to max level ASAP. Once max level, you grind raid dungeons to get tier 1 raid gear, then try and stay amused between lockout timers.

How about Loco or League of Legends, both great games, but not really "MMO", more lobby based. Surely is great fun and pure PvP.

Ive been playin LoL for more than 3 months now and I still enjoy it. You should give it a try.

why do you *need* a mmo OP?  You already tried all the active pvp games worth mentioning..   If there are no good, active pvp games at the moment, then don't play mmo's.  Otherwise you sound like a junkie who needs a new high.

I am very excited for GW2 as well but as it is now I cannot find a single game that has it all.

I play Guildwars about 20 minutes a day along with Global Agenda for just one map a day . .. cannot really handle much more than that with the super instanced games so I play Darkfall as my main one because it is funner to me than all of the other games mentioned in here.

Dont let graphics stop you and playing 6 months to be able to PVP is absolute BS. You rarely come across people who are that developed in the world and it is very fun developing your character even from the beginnnig, at least that is how it is for me and I would gladly start over if my main did not exist. If you do not like magic than you are in luck because the grind that people are complaining about is for magic. Graphics are being redone and prestige classes added so if it matters that much to you check back in after DF2010. Next week an HP formula revamp is being done to help new players take on veterans.

I run a tf2 server and haven't played MMOs (before global agenda, which I tried the trial of last week) for almost a year or more...

Just starting to get bored and want to get back into something I can log into every day with something to do... Tf2 gets old after a thousand hours of gameplay.

Right now its pretty tied between Mortal Online, Darkfall and AoC.. I am REALLY learning towards Mortal Online as its a new, refreshing game with a type that I've never played before. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Would I be making a mistake by buying Mortal Online? Before I do I'd try the Darkfall trial at least.

Guild Wars 2 will NOT be released in November lol.  Refer to Guild Wars 2's website (www.guildwars2.com) and look for "When is Guild Wars 2 going to be released?"

If you haven't played Guild Wars yet, it is a good game to play for pvp.  There is no monthly fee so it is just like buying a console game.  That's how ArenaNet rolls.

    **EDIT**

That date on GameStop is just a placeholder date.  Therefore, nobody knows when GW2 will be coming out as of yet.

Do you think the beta will be up by then at least?

global agenda is the only decent pvp mmo on the market. mmo's arent known for their pvp. in fact, mmo's are infamous for craptastic pvp, all across the board.

if you have the PC to handle,i say go with Age of Conan lots of PvP with unique combat and you will have a reason to login everyday.

the PvP servers on AoC are not for everyone but since you are coming from TF2 id say you have the competitive spirit to handle it and not /ragequit.

  • LeechxLeechx Member Posts: 44

Who knows when the beta will be released... even "if" the beta will be released.  Either way, we all just have to be patient and wait for ANet to do their thing.  They will prolly let us know whether there will be one or not a bit before release I guess.  Until then, best thing for us to do is just keep reading up on the info they spit out, heh.

The PvP isn't the thing stopping me from playing it.. I played it at release and played when they had the free 7 day reactivation thing..

Its what I'm reading on AOC's official forums about PvP simply being very little combat and HUGE amounts of grinding for materials and the like.

Also my PC is a monster, should be able to handle anything ;)

I have played AoC from release and for about a long enough time after I got into the raid content at 80.  It didn't take too too long to hit 80 or anything, but what really tossed me away from the game was how unpolished it was.  I am sure some things have brightened up a bit since then but it sure left a bad taste in my mouth.  I didn't really care for the PvP either.  It was really hard to hit someone as an assassin with such small hitboxes against the other players.  I tried to 1v1 another assassin and we couldn't hit eachother at all for a good few minutes because of how hard it was to hit someone that was constantly dodging.  Who knows what happened to the game since then.  I would not recommend playing it but the choice is yours.

and yeah, shrines of bori,it is a little part of the big tower pvp system they are implementing in the future, its supose to give meaning to pvp and availablity for non high dps classes (tanks healers etc.) to get up in PvP levels.

the problem with it as of yet is not on the PvP servers, because you will fight for it all the time.but the people who paid transfer thier char on PvE server boost themself (in non competitive enviroment) then Come back.

well actually he didn't try out the one that i liked the most and that is definitely a AAA PVP MMORPG :

    Everquest II on PVP server.

U get the xp by killing dudes, u got everything u want on pvp trees, rewards, whatever, it's fairly balanced and the community is very good compared to anything u'd find in a similar game.

I'm still wondering why so many people overlook that game. The launch was bad,  aye, but when they opened PVP servers it become awesome.

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

I tried Darkfall earlier today and while I feel like I didn't give it a fair chance I don't really think I could end up enjoying it..

I watched a few 1v1 / huge battle videos on youtube and it just seemed like something that didn't appeal to me... The gameplay (which I disliked a LOT) made that desicion even more clear.

I DID However start downloading AOC again after watching a few videos, checking out their forums, these forums, rise of the godslayer reviews etc... From what I remember a year or so ago I had a LOT of "noob fun"... Gear, skill, etc didn't matter. I was juat happy playing ;)

Hopefully I've made a choice that'll last me a good amount of time.. At the VERY least until Guild Wars 2.

Also I spent a pretty penny and hours of work building and modding my dream PC... Might as well use it to max out AoC!! :)

PvP wise, the only MMO that comes to mind is GW. I know, some people will argue about it, but regardless of how you wanna classify it, it's fun at the beginning and lets you come back from time to time for PvP. WAR...well, it's not bad...if it had a bit more of pop. I've been playing off and on the trial.

Here's a suggestion: if you're into RPG and looking for good PvP, why don't you check the MOBA genre?

DotA, LoL, HoN, and soon enough Bloodline Champions.

Try atlantica online for pvp.. pretty cool turn based pvp like chess or something

Perfect World has good pvp... although getting to high level is very grindy

Aion online i heard pvp is ok..the game is the newest p2p mmorpg out so lots of fresh people to level up with.

Rohan online has good pvp too... leveling up is grindy though

Soul of the ultimate nation is a great pvp and pve game..has graphics similar to Guildwars!

Conquer online has good pvp.. it is a 2.5d game but its ok grindy as hell.

All the games i mentioned are pretty solid games for pvp...they are also free (except Aion) so try and delete as u please

  • kellerman24kellerman24 Member Posts: 87

For 6+ you say? Very though one in current mmo world ;).

If you didn't liked Darkfall, you surely won't like Mortal. AoC become more and more of a pve game when I've finished playing it but it still had solid pvp playerbase.

Sadly Guild Wars may be your best bet (Guild Wars 2 will be a lot different and it definitely won't come out in november, so I wouldn't be worried about burning out on guild wars, and its cheap nowdays).

Ahhh ... and there's also Aion, but in my opinion it's not worth the grind, unless they've changed it.

So right now it's either GW or AoC ... or single player games.
