Two great PvP games in my opinion are DAoC and WAR. DAoC is kind of oldish but still has life in it and is strictly RvR now and Warhammer Online would be as fun if they made a new server instead of merging them.

DAoC would be my best bet but I wouldn't want anyone to hate me for recommending WAR. If you want though you can always try the endless trial.

I've preordered Guild Wars 2 but with a release in November (according to gamestop) I feel that its a little too late to get into the original game.

That is incorrect, even Anet(the developers) don't know when release is, they are making everything as polished as possible.

Earliest release will be Q2 2011, you have loads of time to play the original.

Apart from that if you play GW2, you should play GW1 for the storyline and bonuses from Hall of Monuments.

Guild Wars has the best pvp of any MMO I've played, and I've played pretty much all the mainstream ones.

Warhammer is not dying, its running at a pretty stable rate.  A lot of people are on, and its really fun.  The new city siege system is awesome and has really improved things.  Plus, there could be a new expansion coming soon according to speculation by some people, and also an article I read today.  Which could make sense with the changes done to the vendors being moved, and the fact that they are saying we will make use of the Sovereign gear soon which as of right now has no wards, which in most instances could only mean new content.  In my opinion, WAR is the best pvp mmo right now, and definitely isn't dying.  Not just yet...  Come check it out, I tried Conan, and somehow it just didn't fit my tastes..  Idk, but the graphics didn't seem as great as depicted yet I didn't get too far into the game to tell otherwise.
