Its interesting that of all the people saying "none of the above" there is no one giving a reason why.
Because they aren't dying to get subscription money?
FYI: Blizzard launched today a new fixed $3 subscription for its "out of the game" Auction House on the I-pod/portable market.
Probably more people will pay that new extra sub than all "free" players of FTP DDO & Lotro combined.
The answer is found in the games.
yes, we're aware of the company greed with which Activision Blizzard continues milking their customers, no need to point out the obvious
I'd say a lot of the MMO's can benefit from a hybrid model, where and a form of subs and F2P is offered.
But I think that first many people would need to get rid of the idea that
P2P = good + successful and F2P = bad + fail
It will take some time to get that thought across with a lot of people. Probably will only be the case if DDO and some more hybrid model MMO's will continue to be successful, and when ArenaNet arrives on the scene with GW2.
Only then will most start to lose their fear for F2P games and start to see that non-P2P is actually very convenient for MMO gamers.

I've got no issue with the poll as long as this site doesn't "Spotlight" it. The option given by the OP of "don't vote" being used to for those who would have chosen "none of the above" or "no MMORPGs should use it" greatly misleads the non-familiar reader into believing that this model is universally accepted. It's not.
Indeed I believe those options were left off because of the very real possibility they would have garnered the most votes. *shrug*

Actually, I left it off because I honestly didn't think about it. It didn't cross my mind until people started complaining. You see, I'm not as negative as most people and tend to look at the glass as half full so having a "none of the above" option didn't even cross my mind. Sorry about that. I highly doubt this will get spotlight, I'm sure one of the other massive threads on the LOTRO FTP move will get it lol.

I personally don't think it's a matter of being negative as it is being able to maintain a level of objectivity in one's view. Presenting "both sides of the coin", as it were, lends to a more credible poll/questionaire. It's just natural for me that if I ask "all of the above" my immediate next thought is to list "none of the above" just because I know that for everything, everything in this world (like, oh Vegemite) you are going to have votes for and against.

None because selling off a failed game in pieces just for the sake of a company making more money is horrible for the mmo genre.
Wow, you really hate LOTRO, don't you? Personally, I don't think LOTRO is a failed game at all. It was at launch, but subsequent content updates and the awesome Moria expansion completely changed the face of the game and sucked me in which I am grateful for.
Turbine is an awful game devloper as it stands right now. All they have done is take great intellectual properties and make a mess of it. Why do you think it is going f2p in the first place, because nobody wants to pay a monthly fee for a craptastic mmo. Turbine is working on another mmo which I will guess and say it will be another popular intellectual property they will make a mess of yet again. Only a small handful seem to like their games compared the entire mmo player base anyway.
Make a mess of it? Are you serious? I happen to like both of the games, sure they aren't my absolute favorite, but they aren't a mess either... Maybe you're being a little too critical, or just some biased fool against any game but his own and taking potshots with information you've heard from other trolls... Either way, you're wrong, and the people who enjoy both games will agree with me.
Man I more so miss the days of Diablo 1. Screw this ftp but need to buy crap through the game junk. Either make it free to play online or just call it p2p already. Cut the BS and false marketing. It's only ftp till you get to a higher level that needs you to buy useless crap to level.
And another one who doesn't understand the FTP/Hybrid model that Turbine has introduced here. Sad. Now I know what is wrong with the industry, and it isn't the developers.
Oh so now it's the fault of the players. We just don't like what we are suposed to.
Worse, apparently you don't like ANYTHING. All you do is complain, have knee jerk reactions and assume you know all the details. Move along, move along.
You're wrong saying that I don't like anything. Currently playing a mmo. I do not assume I know the details, I know because I played a lot of f2p and p2p games. I did not create my opinion on what others say or think. As for complaining, why should I. My game for the moment is not f2p.

the 'pay as you go' model is going to be the norm pretty soon i feel. (for better or worse)

None of them, or at the very most STO.
F2P/P2P excellent thread.

Wanna see complete world domination by Blizzard? Have them make vanilla WoW F2p.
That's right level 1-60 with all its zones, dungeons and L60 raids.
Blizzard would have to double their servers the first week.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP

Darkfall got cons and pros.
Cons there arent enough content to use the Turbine concept, but they could use the normal cash shop design as darkfall got the sould of korean grinder
I could imagine that Vanguard could profit through this Turbine concept, as it got enough zones.
I bet there would be more people playing vanilla then wotlk!!!
