Yes, that means that those who are not subscribers won't be able to even view the subscribers forum (I saw Maerlyn confirming it on IRC). I think there is no other AAA mmos that do the same (correct me if I'm wrong).

Just disable non-subscribers from posting... that simple... but to hide the entire forum?
lol, complaints reaching out to the masses? You know MO players venture outside of a single sub-section of a forum, right? The beta section has always been restricted, yet every single negative post from that forum winds up here.
(but: I didn't see that IRC chat, it would be a curious decision)
Fallen Earth does not allow non-subscribers to view the subscriber only forum. I know this because a bug on my forum-game account linking is preventing me from viewing the subscriber forums, despite being subscribed.
hmmm, that tells me they are worried about a lot of gripe.
When subscribers are complaining en masse about a game at launch, that's not good marketing.
I certainly do not know if this is the case, but I do see a lot of negative comments about the game on here. It seems like the overall consensus I read is that the game is very underdeveloped, but again, hearsay.

In my experience, people who gripe on the internet will typically do so wherever they have the most viewers. So, all the fun and positive conversations will be evenly distributed, but all the negatives will either be in the public section of the forum, or repeatedly by 5 eerily coordinated posters here.
Just my opinion though

Cryptic does this, we all know how well their games are.
But hiding a whole forum does make you think.
Heh, I actually removed the complains part to make post more neutral.
But I think that with hidden forums less info about current status of the game will get out, and even if it does, people won't be able to go see for them selves what are the hot discussions atm.
Also I can't see how beta section is restricted if every registered member can view it?(Or did they change it)
Ow.. Fallen Earth is one of games I never played, thou I see their general forum being filled with topics about ingame stuff, so I assumed it was the sub forum aswell. Thanks for letting me know.
The beta section is restricted to only those with access to the game. During the open beta, then, everyone had access to that forum. When open beta ended access to that forum was restricted accordingly... anyway, since OB ended there's been quite a few people quoting posts and stuff from beta forum, so I figure the same will happen after launch.
I'm not sure if I like the idea of subscriber-only viewing, but I suppose I could see some benefits. At any rate, I'm a subscriber so maybe my opinion's skewed / less charged.
They won't be hiding the entire forum.
They'll be doing the same thing Xsyon is doing with their forums currently.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Hidden beta forums are different than a game hiding their forums after launch.
For what it's worth SWG does the same thing. We all know why they do that.
Not sure about the rest of $OEs games.

If you guys would just read the post linked in the title, says right there in plain letters there will be a small public section and a large area for customers.
Where's the issue really, they most likely want their support staff to shift into dealing with their customers rather than whoever types in some letters and beats a captcha.
Oh right and it's where their rampant fanboys can plot secret DOS attacks versus every other mmo in the free world.

Final Fantasy 7
People still talking about this thing? I thought it would be long dead by now, what with the iffy coders and fascist idiot moderators (aka Maerlyn, the reason i lost all loyalty to Starvault)
Please dont mix together a complete hidden customer only forum, and customer only forum which outsiders can view but not write in.
Plan's changed; we're now just gonna be inexplicably hostile toward other mmo's on their mmorpg.com forum instead. It just looks so easy.
no they dont, i can read them just fine and i havent had a sub for over 2 years
Cryptic has a customer only forum, so does:
- Fallen Earth
- Xsyon
What do they have to hide?
They must have changed it then. They used to not even let you see them if you were on your Vet Come-Back free weekends.

Being an ex-cryptic customer, the forum still looks the same to me. Unless they have a 'cool kids only' forum..
DAMN YOU CRYPTIC!
They just want to prevent you from reading all the raging :P They think and care about you!!!! lol!

I enjoyed Fallen Earth for some time (nowadays i just can't afford a sub for a game that i can play a few hours a week at most), there is a public forum and a subscriber-only one, though i didn't see much rage on subscribers forum when i played (and most flames were about this or that skill imbalance rather than structural defects, nothing unseen on every other MMO forum)
A forum for subscribers and another for others were what Age of Conan had. At least in the beginning. Dont know if it is still that way though.
Like many other MMO's, AOC has just one forum that both subs and non-subs can view for each different areas of the globe (US, English Speaking Europeans, French, Polish, etc). However, only subs can post in it.

Ok they changed it then, in the beginning of the game it was closed areas for non subscribers.
