Soccer/Football World Cup 2010

Hi All

As most of you  know for the first time the Soccer World Cup is comimg to Africa and more specifically South Africa

I live in South Africa and I am fortunate enough to live in Johannesburg

Today in an area called Sandton a parade was arranged in support of our Soccer Team and the World Cup generally. It was epic ..100000 people dancing and singing and just having fun..I was in the heart of it working at a bank .It was one of the most memorable events of my life .The atmosphere in South Africa is amazing, cars have flags on them and everyone cant wait till Friday

Its going to be awesome seeing 32 countries playing it out in the most popular sport on the planet. Anyone else really excited and looking forward it ?

Heres  to the 2010 World Cup :)

The ambassadors of England and the United States exchanged a few friendly jabs and made a wager over the opening round matach between the two countries.  Pretty funny stuff.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

I'm very tempted to do some sport betting. Very tempted indeed. This worldcup I am a bit more excited that the previous. Maybe it's indeed cause it being held on the African continent a first for me.

Tomorrow I thing Mexico will win 2-1.  :D Though who knows, maybe I will be proven wrong. That is what makes football great, you never know what might happen.

Congrats!  I cannot imagine how exciting it must be to host the world's largest sporting event.  South Africa has come a very long way in the last 20 years, and I cannot think of a country more deserving to host this large event.  The whole world is watching you and learning more about your country.  That is priceless :)

We Americans do not get too excited about futbol, but this is slowly changing.  I will definitely be watching the match tomorrow versus England.  Not so much because I like the sport, but I want to see this game taking place in South Africa.  Soak it all up!  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you!

?Who wins US (ranked 14) or UK (ranked 8)? (Brazil is ranked 1)
    image
UK David James, 39yrs, 76" "Calamity"

    or
    image
    US Oguchi Onyewu, 29yrs, 76"

    link

    edit
1-1tie surprised your insight on the UK's ball control when the game centered on the 3lions' lack of ball control. 12Robert Green, three saves vs Heskey-spiked 1T.Howard, six saves.
U-S-A U-S-A... no first round elimination this time.

    S.Af1-Mex1, Urug0-Fr0
    S.Kor2-Gre0, Arg1-Nigera0, US1-UK1
    Algeria0-Slovenia1, Serbia0-Ghana1, Ger4-Australia0
    scores
    Netherland-Denmark, Nipon-Cameroon, Italy-Paraguay,
    N.Zealand-Slovakia, Ivory Coast-Portugal, Braz-N.Kor,

Since it returned to the world stage in 1990, the US has not had the best of luck when playing Central or Eastern European opposition. In 1990 they were bombed 5-1 by Checkeslovakia, in 1998 Yugoslavia beat them 1-0. Almost forgotten from the run in 2002, the U.S. was in deep trouble losing 3-1 to Poland, advancing only because of a 70th minute goal by Park Ji-Sung which downed Portugal. Recently in 2006 the Czech Republic beat the U.S. 3-0 in the opener in Germany.

I hear that YOU can hear vuvuzelas throughout the day and into the night and early morning. Sounds fun :)

I am cheering for Netherlands though.

I'm an American and I could care less about soccer. I'm getting really tired of the media ordering me to give a shit. I'm also less than pleased that a country where 80% of it's population have no running water or electricity and survive on subsistance farming, spent $600 MILLION on a fucking stadium to entertain Europeans. Farming subsidies? Infrastructure? A fucking power plant or two? No. Let's build a playground for foreign white people.....

Why do you even bother posting here then?....If you believe soccer to be restricted to wealthy white European folks, you got it all wrong. Well, I enjoy soccer and I am looking forward to see the USA vs England (and I am not American..) along with Nigeria vs Argentina.

Brazil and Spain remain my favorites at the moment.

Thanks for the picture, you have risen my confidence I now know he can find his balls with his gloves so hopefull he will be able to keep some balls out of the net. On a side not, I wonder if he is using those same gloves in the games. I wonder if he washed them.

Have you traveled much?  I have been to some very poor places and even in places where the streets were riddled with potmarks from war and guess what I saw in every place?  People in the streets playing football.

This is the true world sport.  I know it's hard to imagine if you've never been out of America, I was shocked as well.

Iraq is dirty. Trash covers the ground everywhere. The whole country is like one big dump. They don't have trash, so they throw it in the streets.

Guess where the only clean places are?

Yup, their soccer fields. The Iraqis are pretty damn good too. I think in 2006 they almost beat us in qualifiers.

All you have to do is turn on your TV to the World Cup, Jimmy_Scythe. You will probably see very few white people.

Not to mention, most people SHOULD know even if you live under a rock that most of the South American teams are the best in the world. Esp. Brazil.
