The atmosphere and the stadiums are top class! But can you guys stop that horn sound .sounds like 90 mins of bees.
If I watch a match I do so with the sound at the lowest. After 2 minutes I can't stand the mosquito sound of that horn. I can't imagine how the players are able to play, I would have clawed my eardrums out.
Very pleasant game despite the vuvuzelas that are seriously starting to drive me crazy, you could not even hear UK supporters which is quite unusual.
England has a tradition of having rather bad goal-keepers...it is confirmed thanks to Green
It was a great game. The calls got a little stupid in the second half though. It seemed like if we looked at someone the wrong way, we'd get a yellow card, but the UK was straight up trying to take some of our players out of the game and got nothing. lol
It's all good though. I just hope we take out Slovenia and Algeria. I missed their game today, but it was 0-1 Slovenia.
I'm an American and I could care less about soccer. I'm getting really tired of the media ordering me to give a shit. I'm also less than pleased that a country where 80% of it's population have no running water or electricity and survive on subsistance farming, spent $600 MILLION on a fucking stadium to entertain Europeans. Farming subsidies? Infrastructure? A fucking power plant or two? No. Let's build a playground for foreign white people.....
lol soccer is the worlds game. That means the most of the people that watch it are poor. Poor kids can afford to play it because all they need is an open space, some markers for a goal, and any sherical object can be used for the ball. They don't need all this gear like in American Football, Hockey, or baseball... We know Americans don't give a shit about fubol, but a few do! I played since 4 years old all the way through high-school before I stopped.
And, this game being in that country will probably generate more than 600 million in revenue....
I hate soccer because it's not a contact sport and the players act all tough yet they dive and fake all the time , that stuff is a pure disgrace and makes me think euro's praise divers.
Soccer is slow and not interesting , like baseball... good to fall asleep.
I agree that the media is sooo trying to make me give a fuck when i really dont.
Real men watch UFC and Hockey. Rest is all sissy sports.

Soccer is a full contact sport.
Soccer is slow and not interesting , like baseball... good to fall asleep.
You should probably sit down and actually watch a game then. Sometimes it gets a bit slow when they are passing the ball back and forth, running out the clock, but most of the time alot can happen in the blink of an eye. When I was at the bar watching the UK v US game, I looked down to grab my drink and missed one of the biggest plays of the game..... and it happened on the opposite site of the field they were on when I went to go grab my drink.
Real men watch UFC and Hockey. Rest is all sissy sports.
UFC is good, but it's so political. Last night's fight was a fight between two people who hadn't won a fight in almost a year. I didn't even go watch it. Fuck Liddell and Franklin. They suck balls and they were the title fight. It's almost turning into a WWE where the fighters actually hit each other.
Soccer is pretty much hockey w/o the sticks, pads and skates. Yesterday, the US goalie took a full speed slide tackle to the chest and arm and kept on playing. If you don't think that hurt, then there is something wrong.
Hatter it wasn't UK vs US it was England vs US. :P Ok game though.
For the next Olympics we're making a UK team however Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland don't want to be included in it because they think Fifa will make them compete as the UK in other matches or something stupid like that so it will just be England competing as UK.
I hope North Korea wins, but seeing that they are up against Portugal, Ivory Coast and Brazil I think they'll win all those games with atleast 2 goals. They possess 5 times the mentality of the other teams.
OMG congrats Japan! Great game against Cameroon. Everyone thought this was an easy win for Cameroon, but it did not happen. Cameroon played such conservative game for the majority of the game and didn't really threaten Japan until the very end where they took most of their shots. Sad. Anyway, Japan played a great match and that will help them in their next match. They'll be so pumped. Congrats Japan! Their best start yet for a WC.
I go to Europe once a year, and I honestly try to like soccer by watching a match with the locals. I also tried again last Saturday and watched most of the games that day. It is simply too goddamned boring. Baseball is even more fun to watch than soccer, and baseball is only a couple steps away from watching paint dry.
To top it off, team USA and England wait 4 years for their next World Cup game, take 2 hours to play it ---- AND ITS A DRAW? A TIE GAME? How fucking lame is that? The general rule in sports is that there has to be a winner and a loser. Watching that match wholly unsatisfying. This sport should be incorporated into the special olympics... Because at the Special Olympics, EVERYONE WINS!!!!
Soccer is just never going to catch on in the US and here's why:
1) Basketball - We already have a sport about cutting, passing and rushing the "goal." What's more the game is shorter, has a clear winner and loser every game and is more friendly to commercial interuption.
2) Soccer is an actual team sport - Take any of the Holy trinity: Baseball, Basketball and Football (gridiron for the euros here), and you'll notice the whole teams are built around one to three players. With American football, you only need to care about the quarterback, runningback and reciever. In Baseball, we cannonize pitchers and hitters. Basketball? One player can carry an entire team to a championship ring. Soccer doesn't allow for the kind of individual glory that American sports offer.
3) The game is too damn long - There is only one break in soccer. Halftime at 45 minutes. We colonials don't like to sit still for that long.
4) Offsides and goalkeeping - Goaltending is verboten in basketball and completely absent in American football. Also, if you're on the attack and have a clear road to victory then kick ass! The offside rule of soccer, the one where passing to a player closer to the goal than any of the opposing team's players results in a free kick for the other side, is distinctly unAmerican. If you have the advantage, you press it. I'm always amazed that soccer teams don't just line up at midfield and just refuse to move back toward their own goal....
Yes, soccer is a sport. In a way, I consider it the NASCAR of Europe. You can fall asleep in the middle of the game, wake up near the end and still know what's going on. Just like NASCAR.
Thing is, soccer just doesn't fit with everyday American sensibilities. Yes, there is a cross section of American culture that likes soccer. This demographic is composed of first and second generation European / Latin American immegrants and elitists who want to be more "civilized" by emulating Europeans. The other 80% of the American population just doesn't have any interest.
Whether you're right or wrong, you make some good points.....
Except for 3. It's actually a pretty short game, considering the clock doesn't ever stop and extra time is just added on to the end. Given that American Football is an hour, but it takes 2-4hrs to actually play the game it's a whole lot shorter pretty much makes the argument bunk. lol
Football = 3ish hours
Soccer = 95ish min + 15min half time
Replace 3 with them trying to get penalties called by acting like babies when they get touched, and you got yourself a valid 3rd argument! lol.
One could turn the argument around and say that games were many points are scored are boring. 'Soccer' brings up a tension like not many other sports. That and football/baseball/basketball won't ever have the same emotions like world cup.
Either way it's the world's most popular sport and you few dipshits around here won't make a difference.

This is how I know you aren't an American. If you're anywhere in the US during the World Series, Superbowl or NBA playoffs, you'll notice that sports are really just fierce tribal rivalries disguised as "friendly" compitition. Sometimes I don't even think the sport itself really matters as long as these guys have something to be emotional about. Come to think of it, the restrictions on American male behavior may be what makes these games so popular since it's the only thing that men are truely allowed to be emotional about.
Yeah, yeah, I know.... Soccer riots. But you and I both know that those riots have nothing to do with the game and everything to do with hooligans wanting an excuse to smash shit.
Whether you're right or wrong, you make some good points.....

Look at how surprised this guy was when Green gave up that goal.
pure disgrace... those guys would get their teeth knocked out in a hockey game due to them being a disgrace to the sport.
Soccer is not a contact sport at all lol. You just like to think it is.
Lol at real men watch UFC.

One example among many others. Now if you really don't like soccer...Stop watching it! It is as simple as that.
AUSTRALIA - GERMANY 0-4
Who was asking for goals earlier? A rather entertaining game despite the huge technical skill gap.
Haters will hate.
I hope North Korea wins, but seeing that they are up against Portugal, Ivory Coast and Brazil I think they'll win all those games with atleast 2 goals. They possess 5 times the mentality of the other teams.
I CREATED MYSELF!

Wait... so because he injured himself.... means that the game is a contact sport ?
lmfao
Why do I bother arguing with a troll that believes UFC is sport? lol buzz-off pls.
MMA is a sport.
Is golf? Bowling? Pool? Ping Pong?
Define sport.
Is competition enough of a definition?

Well, to be fair......... I thought the same thing. lol
That was pretty freaking gross, but it has nothing to do with it being a contact sport. lol
