STO isnt my thing, whats a better space game.

fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

I'm looking for a better space game then STO where the planets are better and and the space exploration is there.   I have lifetime to STO but I dont think im going to stay because of the undeveloped planets and space.  I'm sure others have left and have found a game like this, please tell me where I can find a game like this.

    Good EVEning!

There are no planetery missions or crew members or visual ship customization (except the new cruisers),

BUT STILL: all i can recommend as an alternative ''space mmo'' to you is the one answer we all know: EVE Online. i luv' that game, sure it has its ups and downs but at the end of the day, if u like the cold of space and having your own cruiser to pilot, (and maybe enjoy spreadsheets a little bit) eve onlline is a sure bet:)

and there is Vanguard online, i have no idea how good or bad that game is.....

Otherwise black prophecy and jumpgate evolution are both in the works, along with some other indie games that seem to be promising for now.. but i dunno, time will tell

ALSO there is the Earth & Beyond emulator around, with BOTH planetary missions AND space combat/trading, ALAS, remember that its only an emulator, and E&B is otherwise a long dead game - that died a too soon:(

OOPS! Before i forget, there is another space mmo on my radar: Taikdom Living Universe, it seems like an interesting 3D and rather good looking space mmo from an Indie developer, i like what i see so far, but its not out yet, either......

So im afraid there is no game out that i know of that exactly fits the profile you ask for - for the time being.

When it comes to non-fantasy mmo's in general, the choices are rather slim...;(

Asteroids, for one, to answer the topic title.

There isn't much for having both planets AND space.  Eve for space.  SWG for both, but it's not to great a game, either.

Honestly, besides EvE, you arent really going to find anything in terms of space MMOs, maybe Vendetta or SWG, but i dont know enough about those to make a call.  Black Prohpecy and Jumpgate Evolution are in the works, they might have what you want, maybe not, we wont know until these games are closer to release.

Sorry, the game just arent there.

    I personally enjoyed SWG

    SWG

    EVE

Perpetuum is close to open beta. No space exploration, though. Bots & lasers on an alien planet.

    SWG

    EVE

    Vendetta Online

    (in beta)

    Black prophecy

    Perpetuum

JumpGate Evolution (if it ever comes)

these are all options, not many others out there. though most will not have space and ground combat.

If EVE doesn't appeal, perhaps Starquest Online would be more fitting.

Certainly not EvE, which incidently is a game I keep trying, wanting and hoping it will change.  It continues to be an old school point and click souless borefest, which is overhyped by its fanbios.

I hate what SoE did to SWG, but its does actually have decent space mechanics.  Which are way better than STOs and miles ahead of EvE when it comes to direct interaction.  Or at least did so, as I've not played it for years.

Personally I'd just hold out.  There's a lot of new MMOs heading our way, quite a few of them are sci-fi.

As a standalone game diversion I highly recommend Mass Effect 1 followed by Mass Effect 2.   Bioware at their best.

As far as MMORPG's go...  I'd give EVE a try if you haven't yet.

Eve Online is a great game, as long as you don't have A.D.D.

  • GTwanderGTwander Member UncommonPosts: 6,035

    SWG, EVE and SpaceQuest

Upcoming ones; Jumpgate and Black Prophecy

There is also Air Rivals, which is a dogfighting MMO with aerial combat that was once ACE Online, which then used to be Space Cowboy.

Notice how all the people that love EVE are always praising it on the forums instead of playing the game?

Black Prophecy does seem good how ever.

As long as the skill-training queue is going, they *are* technically playing it and progressing while AFK.

I can see all the EVE hate based on the "hands off" controls, but any other reason is just mouthing off. It's a great game thats deeper than a porn star's vag.

Wouldn't you rather a game you can play instead of going AFK and letting it play it for you?

Not mouthing off. Just showing the pretty painted portrait for what it really is. All the EVE fan boys and girls always seem to get on the defensive when their favourite MMO is revealed to be less than godly from another perspective.

Even I wish it controlled like JtL, but beyond that, the game is amazing. Other games could take a lesson from it's depth, there is soooo much you could do with your time in-game, much of it shouldn't be done solo, but it's a quiet gesture to amend that by joining a corp or just grouping.

Yeah, funny, I just got done fighting in about 4 engagements in null sec tonight. I never play tho. lol.

Problem with Eve is you actually have to make an effort to learn the game and find your niche. Most people that hate it is because they just couldn't find that purple wizard with the giant exclamation point over his head.

    That happen to you?

  • gholstongholston Member Posts: 83

Another funny thing I just thought about too is the unanimously great ratings Eve gets with almost every MMO site including this one.

But again...  You actually have to have an attention span longer than that of a gnat.

I guess that's why I like the Eve community too.

    Borefest is right.

Playing EVE is like watching a glacier melt; which is, coincidentally, the national pastime in Iceland.

    F1-F10 FTW !!!

People that don't like Eve either mine for 3 months or run missions and think that's what the game is. Then they accidentally jump into low sec, get barbecued and quit. Then they go back to WoW, which is exactly where they should have stayed.

Eve players are a different breed. They are not coddled by the game, nor do they want to be.
