And the prize for reading way too much into 2 casual statements goes to....

That's right, THE ORIGINAL POSTER OF THIS THREAD!!! :D HUZZAH!!

(Nothing personal, OP, but this is really exactly that...)

Seriously folks, we know almost nothing about this game. These statements are passing remarks that don't say anything and are just trying to show confidence in a game. Let's have a breakdown, shall we?

(his quotes are in green, my translation is in yellow)

"I've spent lots of time in WoW.

Yeah, you and 14 million other people. Translation: I've played WoW enough that I mention it in a sentence.

As a WoW fanatic, I'm going to go right to 40K as soon as it comes out.

Translation: I think the 40K game is good.

It's very friendly to the WoW player," Bilson says.

Translation: It's not gonna be too different from any MMO that's come out since 2005, at least not in a way that would make it inaccessible to the mainstream MMO player.

    "They've got 14 million players!

Translation: Fact: WoW has the largest subscription base of anyone in this industry. (He's not wrong)

Gimme a million and I'm good!

Translation: If I can do better than any other game besides WoW has done, I'll be pleased. (This is the mission statement of pretty much any MMO to be developed after WoW's success, including SWTOR)

We're real good at a million, right?

    Translation: Success is good, right?

We don't need everybody to migrate. We just need some of them -- and I'm full confident we're going to get them.

Translation: We'd like a slice of that pie, and I think our product is good enough to get it. (FYI, this is something that EVERY game developer says. Nobody goes into business saying "I really hope only 17 people like our game, and that nobody wants to play it.")

So...yeah...not really sure how this caused that much of a panic in anyone. If I say "I like Colby Jack Cheese," are some of you folks thinking I'm saying "I want all food everywhere to be 100% Colby Jack Cheese! Also, our children should be replaced with Colby-Jack-Cyborg-Bodies!!"? I'm a little disappointed by this, even considering this is an online forum.

And no, I haven't read the 100+ comments on this thread, but I hope at least half of it is getting after the OP for a huge mistake in conclusion-jumping, exaggeration, and doom-mongering. And if the other half is people going "Oh well, I won't pay attention to this game anymore, so sad QQ everything is WoW..." you need to grow a pair. Of Eyeballs. And read the damn things for yourselves.

This snippet with 2 quotes isn't saying at all what the title of this thread is.

Currently playing: LOTRO, Guild Wars 2.
Have played: EVE Online; Champions Online; Age of Conan; City of Heroes/Villains; Star Wars Galaxies (pre-CU, pre-NGE); World of Warcraft (Vanilla to Cataclysm); Hellgate: London; Warhammer Online; Lord of the Rings Online; Vanguard: Saga of Heroes; Star Wars: The Old Republic

Maybe they're targeting the 1M or so smart WOW players out there.

I mean there can't all be layabouts and ezmode slackers in that game can there?

So just because they use similar art for WH40K mmo this means it is a WoW clone ? They seriously should have iq tests before people make threads like these.

Thats why i think Blizzards RealID is good for us....

Maybe instead of showing the persons last name, Blizz should post the persons IQ. This would prevent me from reading many useless posts.

Since we don't know that much about the game, its hard to tell.  It seems like it will have 2 factions, like WOW, quest driven character progression, like WOW, controlled PVP arenas, like WOW, and classes and levels, just like WOW.

Sure, WOW didn't invent these features, but they did perfect them to the point that in the last 5 years few developers have bothered to try and stray from the forumula that Blizzard has firmly entrenched in the marketplace. (big fear of failure, yet they all end mostly failing anyways)

Take a bet right now, when WAR40K comes out it will be much more similar in design to WOW than EVE, SWG, or AC.

Gotta love when people don't think before they speak.

Last I heard, LotR, WAR, AoC and Aion have all done just fine, and WAR is the only one I'd consider a clone.  Do they have 14 million subs?  No.  However, they are making money and that's all that matters.  This is a business and they have succeeded in making money, so they have not failed.  Blizzard are marketing geniuses.  They make their money on shear name recognition alone now.  Hell, look at the pre-order numbers for Starcraft.  It hasn't even been released.  Diablo 3 will no doubt be a Titan Quest clone with a Diablo skin, you won't see THQ get credit for that will you?  No.  Just gotta sit back and laugh when people say something is similar to a game that has more subs than the next 10 MMO's combined.  That's a bad thing I suppose, to try and take the positives from a massively successful product and put it in your game.  Huh, interesting.

WAR40k will be just fine.  WoW wasn't the first good MMO contrary to popular belief.

I don't know about war or aoc.  LOTRO has been taking a pounding, and that is why they are going f2p.  It been known for some time they had player retention problems.  Now after they go f2p then that might fix theire sub numbers.

Personally I will try war 40k just to see if its any good.

  • 3rickZann3rickZann Member Posts: 17

Actually, I believe that LOTRO went F2P because of how big a boon it's been for DDO, which was failing.   But, back on topic, I'm actually very excited to see the Warhammer franchise being true to itself.

Vigil may not have a WoW killer here, but it hardly matters. Those of us who've been waiting for an honest Warhammer MMO will gladly knock out a few teefs to buy the box when it comes out.  :)

Looks like it could be a good game in my opinion. Although I don't like this argument I'm going to use, but judging the gameplay at this state might be a bit to early. Let's wait a year or two, and judge by the Alpha/Beta trailers/teasers/previews.

Now to the topic, I don't care much if he personally have played WoW and want's a slight chunk of their subscribers. I would be more upset if he said he didn't want them. That's digging your own grave.

Also, now I don't play WoW anymore, and haven't done so for several of months. I still believe it's one of the best games(MMO) ever made, and I've played MMO's before WoW. So, I wouldn't care much if they will cater a bit to some of the WoW playerbase.

Chill out people, let them at least try first before sending them down to the pit.

I don't know if anyone has read this but: http://www.darkmillenniumonline.com/ Then click Game Info and read the bottom paragraph.

To those too lazy to click a link it says as followed:

' Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter.'

This means that there will only be 2 factions, and, as a Warhammer 40k Fan AND mmo fan, this has been done and cannot be done again, especially in a W40k game. They will be hearing from me about this.

Good, because it's very early in game development and if there ever is a time to make an opinion or option really thought through, it's now.

I'm really hoping they are reconsidering this move.

might need to check info first warhammer 40000 have been here a long time ,they just never made many mmo but the fact is if you go in your local book store or online and check the full lineup of warhammer 40000 you will be surprised by the amount of book avail.will this be a good franchise for mmo ,hard to say since the story in the book is hardcore so if the game is hardcore too.it might do good might do bad one thing is sure this is not a wow .

mm!if that game maker was to put all faction and all the story online like you and lot of warhammer fan hope i wonder when they could publish it.it would be like getting eve online interstallar voyage but each planet like wow or other part of warhammer story and would have to phoaze each galaxy and planet for each time line .if you read the book you know it is impossible to do be it vigil or blizzard.warhammer story is just too big.

  • killer092005killer092005 Member UncommonPosts: 26

I know they can't put ALL the factions in, but at least make a third faction or something. with two factions, I'm thinking Imperium vs Chaos. I'm reasonable, but I don't want to see them fuck up the lore.

2 Factions is good. I understand the reason people may like to have more than 2 but when you go beyond 2 factions your just seperating players even more not to mention the balance.

If you can make this statement then you really don't understand why 3 factions is better and does more to unify the player base and reduces balance issues.  Guess you had to play DAOC to really understand how it works.

But looks like this game is going the two faction route which will make their jobs more difficult IMO.

Wait until at least the beta comes out and you get the chance to play it/hear from those who have played it before you start proclaiming "lol WoW clone this game will fail." Jesus.

issue with 2 factions is no 2 underpopulated realms ganging up on the overpopulated one.

When I first heard about this game, I just knew it was going to be the best game ever released ever.

Now I'm positive it's going to the worst game produced in the history of game production.

I'm definitely writing this off forever.  Unless, that is, they manage to convince me through some vague, directionless sentences that it'll be the best game ever.  Then I'll be totally on board.

Unless they say something I don't like.  Then back off.

    Those beautiful jerks.

  • kumobladekumoblade Member UncommonPosts: 87

So essentially 80% of the people in this thread are setting their opinions in stone  2-3 years before game released based on an interview with someone who knows very little about the game and was hoping to hype it up.

I'll admit, I was a little concerned with what he said, then I went and read the contradicting interviews by the developers themselves, which are diehard 40k fans, and it put my mind at ease.

A few things to know about 40KDMO.

It uses the Darksiders Engine.  Not Blizzard's engine.  Darksiders was a fantastic game which OMG COPIED!!! Portal, God of War, and Legend of Zelda, and they paid homage and appreciation to the games that laid a steady foundation for Darksiders.  That's serious integrity there.  If anything this game will feel like Darksiders, which was quite casual, and a lot of fun.

THQ is doing something very few Publishers do, and thats be honest.  They flat out said  "Yeah, WoW is a good game, we want in on the MMO business, and we feel we can do it. "  I'm glad its out in the open.

So if you're hyperventilating and raging over the interview because you feel THQ crushed your hopes and dreams of the 40k MMO, go watch the damn trailer again and stop whining.  Being a skeptic only makes you look like a prudent, impatient, assuming, cliff-jumping ass.

Just relax and wait for the next update.  When we're closer to release date, and the game isn't looking great, then you can start complaining.  But right now we have a minute or so of footage.  [sarcasm]There's So much to Judge this game on!!!! [/sarcasm]

  • killer092005killer092005 Member UncommonPosts: 26

I haven't said this game was going to be bad, I liked the trailer and the gameplay within it and it seemed great (especially the Titans, that was my geek moment) I was just a little disappointed in the 2 Faction thing. Thats not going to stop me from trying the game, Cause, even if it looks like a  WoW clone, there are major differences between WoW and W40k, specifically the fact of Vehicles and guns and what works best (Machine guns not good against tanks but Rockets are)

  • SlampigSlampig Member UncommonPosts: 2,342

Still wondering what article you all read. I didn't see a single thing in that article saying this game would be a clone.
