Why have MMO's become so lame?

Why oh why does it have to be like this, WoW is heaven for Internet Trollers and jerks yet it's hell for me, Aion is turned down by people because of it's "Eastern Style" that's the same area where the free to plays come from, Warhammer is a game on life support, Everquest 2 can't run the graphics correctly even if you do have a high powered graphics card and Codemasters got rid of my Lord of the Rings online account, I don't want to buy the game again. =p
Also played DDO and it sucks everything isn't more open worlded and Runes of Magic is a cheap knock off game.
Shame there's no other good games, there's far too many cheap free mmo's that look and play bad, and they want more money then pay to plays. =p

Because no one cares about quality anymore.. but only how fast and cheap can you make the game? Plus I honestly believe that 90% of the programers in the industry are just plain incompetent.. We need new people with fresh ideas..

Man up, forums are for PVP, so expect people to respond when you start a thread, especially one with no real point other than to lament the current state of MMO's (btw, this topics been done before, far more than once.) It's all in your head that you consider it to be trolling.
So you've played a few MMO's (trust me, your list isn't all the big) but you've hardly scratched the surface of what's out there. Allods, EVE, AOC, DAOC, AC, come to mind immediately. Or are you a person who can only play a game that "everyone else" is playing?
Not being able to find fun in any of the currently released MMO's is more a reflection on yourself than the actual games themselves.

I think it's because the innovation has always come from educated people, not just "game designers". I think there's too many players and former designers who think they belong there but don't.
WoW's main development team consisted of former EQ players. The only thing they knew is EQ, once they copied those ideas, they were done, they don't know how to innovate, they have no degrees, they have no experience with design.
Japan has been the top innovator for gaming for years, but they employ very educated or experienced people. I think the West has been employing too many wanna-be designers. Because you make 1 hit game doesn't mean you can make another and because you played MMO or games doesn't mean you know how to make them.

You commented on some of WoW programers played EQ1 early on.. Which surprises me.. EQ1 plays NOTHING like WoW, in my opinion, WoW is more like the a super casual easy mode of EQ1.. The grouping is not similar, the raiding is NOT even close to resembling EQ1, the classes on WoW are all homogenized anymore..

The only thing I can compare wow and eq1 together is to say that WoW is the E-sport dumbed down version of EQ1 (or other similar fantasy genre).. But if I wanted to play a game of my epeen is bigger then your epeen.. I'd go play Aion, Eve or similar.. WoW is a horrible PvP game..
In EQ2s case something weird must have happened since they put in Hallas. I didn't lag the least before (480 GTX, 8 gig ram, 3.2 ghz x6) but now I do. And my computer is really high end.
The reason DDO sucks is that it is only fun when you play together with some IRL friends at certain times. It is made to be like a P&P game so pugging just isn't fun.
Try LOTRO or wait for FF XIV, GW2, TOR (who however might get loads of those trolls) and WoDO, maybe TERA too.

Every MMO that has come out after WOW or has yet to come out is a horrible abomination that wreaks of gameplay disaster, and should be stricken from existance! Never mind that people play them reguardless of this fact (by the way.. what i said just now is fact because I said it is). No.. never you mind that they dont all play the way I want them to or may have stayed away from the format to which I prefer. Naw.. I dont like them.. there fore they all suck.

There are plenty of games out there that aren't "Lame" you just have to find the ones you enjoy. Just because the game doesn't have as many people as WoW doesn't mean that it is dead or not worth playing. There are still multiple games out there that you probably haven't tried, or maybe you just aren't really into MMO's anymore, which is understandable. Go try out some other genres and then come back later when some other game sparks your attention.

Interesting question. I think its because of money. Gamedesirngers firgured out that MMOs have good money make potential and they just started to make games for mass players not for MMO fans. Thats why almost every MMO fan is dissapointed now. Maybe EvE online, Fallen Earth, Vanguard or AoC are not bad in some ways. But there are too specific and too "complicated" noone wants to play them. Everyone play WoW instead which is mass grind and only good thing about WoW is kind of "action" fighting system which is action only cause you have tons of buttons to push.. Imo EvE and Fallen Earth are best MMOs at market right know. And no, im not playing EvE or FE. I play Ragnarok Online. :P
EDIT: Forgot about Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 is ply going to be also amazing. Or Black Prophecy looks interesting.

I hear you, Blizzard gave 7 days for free on Wow for their 5 years, i tried, really, i download a cool custom UI, then i logged in and was like "man i just can't, it looks as bad as darkfail" WHY DOES WOW LOOK SO BAD, i mean, if it looked good, i'd probably have played it, but even League of Legends is a looker compared to this
EQ2 was good, very good, but i'm 2 expansions behind, can't bother catching up.
Eve i'm -10 and in Rancer, can't bother go back on there and start a new life.
APB sucks sucks sucks and SUCKS hell it's 10x worse than beta now.
TERA/FFXIV/GW2/TOR/JGE aren't out.
These are dark days for MMORPGs ...
Maybe WAR or AOC are worth going back to ? No idea.

Well I did do that some time ago but I no longer play on Xbox 360, there really hasn't been anything great this year. I played on the PC versions of Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, to my honest opinion, playing either of these online with other players is a disgrace, it's just endless kicking and too many French frogs playing (we Brits sure hate our snotty French neighbours who have an evil taste towards poor little frogs they cut the legs off). Personally I hate lobby based online games.
Never played Crysis but since it's another "realistic" FPS game I won't bother with that, can't beat the old Doom I say. I wonder what PC games are popular nowhere days. =o
As for MMO, well I want to get into something where people socialise and work together, not something that's 90% infested with Forum Trolls and e-sporters. On a fine note, I hate PvP driven MMO's.
My honest reply is : Too many people play games and the gaming community grows too much. how is that a bad thing? The new people think everything is awesomesauce because, they're new. People who played a longer time have already been through more games and (often) find new games actually , just cheap. Cheap in the sense there is so few innovation .
But again , i'm one man and cannot possibly have played every game and thus i might be missing quite some good and interesting games. And add to that i'm very very picky , only a few games get through my standards . (i'm not saying every game i like is awesome but just that i don't find a butload of games appealing. Sometimes for puny reasons like the art style bothering me a bit ).
As an example a lot of people said C&C 4 was refreshing and all , only thing that came in my mind: never played DoW2 ? (just as an example on how the big amount of gamers can let uncreative developers get away with lame rip offs)

MMOs didn't become lame, the current MMOs are lame because they have a pretty poor empty design system and the old players are just realizing what a poor community is playing the game (The current MMOs are "fun" because of the community and the roleplay not the wak that devs are making).
Static quests, instanced raids, PVP battlegrounds, Poor crafting, WoW style acronyms. Those are getting old to me and I don't even play WoW (I played the trial for like 10 days and quit).

We got frenchies in the guild, they are as valable as any other member. As u stated it's endless kicking probably because you suck and get kicked because of that. You are unlikely to find this in any big title until these developers make the entire experience of the game much more difficult. However, this is rather unlikely because of the cost of development (and investor returns) and needing a very large number of paying customers to cover it.

Most oldschool 3d games are lame too. Most suffer from server based lag if more then 10 players are in view.
Technology evolved and those issues were mostly created by old engines .
Most newer games run better and also pay more attention to performances because gaming is no longer a niche market . Everybody wants to play but many don't have anything near a "gaming" PC . (this said i used to play games with crappy pc's

I remember back in vanilla WoW where everything was so amazing, but if i take some time to think, it had more issues than now. People just stick to the great memories, which are those the recall rather than the bad. I havent played UO or EQ1 or whatever, i just doubt they were THAT good, that you would be sitting in a mass-orgasme the whole duration of your ingame time.
And for creator of the topic, i didnt see AoC in your list, unless instancing really make you puke, i have gotten used to it, no lack of content, no more bugs than other games, and on EU servers, very healthy servers - Im having a blast, and im a nab again, dont know what im doing, and paying spending a gold on something which is worth nothing <'3

My comment was directed at the OP to show that old school MMO's werent all that ppl remember they were. Lot of players get blinded by nostalgic feelings and only remember the positive parts.
kind of fun with the argument, ppl have tried it before, this is why they are bored of it. get to think of how many many FPS games have been released and been successful.
Im still able to enjoy an MMO, but have yet to get to care about getting into a new guild and really be part of it...which in the end ruin any MMO to me as well, only really great thing about MMOs to me is the community, within "my" guild....but hardly ever care to get into a guild no more....mainly since havent found a game yet that Id care to play for a longer time....meaning after EQ2 started to play MMOs like I d play any other single player game.
now that imo is what kills MMOs
very few care to be social, myself included most times.
edit: I dont think its being social to gather a group for instance xyz, its almost always done for selfish reasons, not that those cant turn out to become social, but getting rare that mainly since ppl are bored...bored ppl no fun :P
