The cap is raised to 65 as well I'm pretty sure even if you are on free if you have the expansions.

If you got the xpac for moria and for som you get those and the level cap.

However if you rool a new toons you will find that once your past the starter areas you will have to unlock the original content for SOA.

Yes thats true, but you limited to 3 toons, and a level cap of 50, and a gold cap of 5 gold.  You still have to pay to unlock all that and the eriador quests again.

At least those can be purchased away. The mail, chat and auction limitations cannot be purchased away, only lifted for VIP.

what are the mail, chat and auction limitations?

I dont think its wrong nessesarily, the idea of f2p isnt to give everyone everything for free.

    From the F2P FAQ:

What type of in-game mail, chat, and auction restrictions do Free players have?

Free players can send in-game mail less frequently than Premium players and VIPs. Free players can use in-game chat but cannot send more that one tell every 5 seconds. Free players can bid and buyout auctions in the Auction House but cannot post items. These restrictions can be removed at any time in the LOTRO Store buy purchasing the corresponding items.

Dont know exacty what the differnce between Free and premium though.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

ah, well I can understand the auction thing.

One big problem with making a game f2p is that people make hundreds of free accounts and use them to flood the market.  So I think those restriction are more for the prevention of exploit.

The game is relativly gold seller free at the moment, but I imagine going f2p would make the chinese farmers jump for joy

Free players have a 2 gold limit,  3 bag limit, one toon allowed.   Premium has a 5 gold limit, and allowed 3 toons unless they had purchased moria and som and they get to keep those toons.

So basicly free players can play the game till level 20, at that point they have to make a desision.  Do I spend money to unlock to keep going forward.  The free player thing is designed for one thing, and that is to have harsh limitations in order to make folks want to buy upgrades.    It is not as bad for premium players but they will have to make a desision to unlock as well on several things going forward and if they decide to roll any alts.

What this will do is make you tak a harsh look at your toons.  Before in the past folks would roll a toon and deleteit quite frequently.  No with the locks and unlocks you have to buy for each toon -  the word each being key,  these are not account wide locks, these are toon locks.  You beter be sure you spend your cash really good if your not a vip.

yea, this was a common mis-conception around the time DDO was going free to play.

And if you read the review it does say you can level much further with out paying.

The reason is that the points you buy to spend things on can also be earned in-game, and there is a hideous amount of quests to complete if you went through ALL starting area's.

Obviously it will depend on the rate at which these points can be earned, but if DDO is any measure to go by it will be very reasonable, not had to pay anything into DDO yet and still tons of free stuff yet to do.

Eh... the most I've seen so far is just 10 turbine points, for a harder-to-complete deed, not all of them give points too, and in the 10-12 levels I spent playing, saw zero quests with any point rewards. I also grinded out whatever deed I could in the area I was in, and from that, I barely got sh** compared to the prices in the store.
