Bladerunner + normal MMO playerbase who has no idea what film noir nor postmodernism is = ick... Though with the right crowd it'd be amazing.
I would love a Farscape MMO most of all .. and even more nerdy a Buffyverse MMO (yeah yeah, it appeals to my gen X sense of humor). Maybe a Secret of N.I.M.H.?
I agree with the statement above... but I would love to see an MMO that is just completely out side of the box. Almost every MMO on the market playes the same as the next. I would like to see an MMO with maybe an advancement system like AOE. where u start out with sticks and stones and evolve over the years. so if you like more of a Fantasy Sword and bored MMO then join a guild focused on that. or if you want more of a modern feel join that guild. of if u want something Sci fi join a guild for that. you can have 3 different planets for it maybe. but maybe each planet needs eachother to survive but are connected some how.
Im just tired of the same games with a different color of paint.
"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-
I've got one suggestion, I would like to see. Andromeda, originally wrote by Gene Roddenberry. These two are games already, but they've never been made into a MMORPG. Funcom's TLJ & Dreamfall. I think it would make a brilliant MMORPG. MechWarrior, You've got a whole galaxy to choose from and big robots as well.
Thats funny cause I just watched the 1972 version of Adromeda last week. I Went so far as to find a watch movies online for free site and found it, lol! Its a good movie, I like the part where , oh shit Im thinking of the andromeda strain lol..im sure both are good though, n/m me lol im off in never never land.
I think the type of ip Id most want in a new mmo would have to be a ground/space game that I wanted star trek online to be but wasnt. I had high hopes for Perpetual Entertainment but that didnt work out. I think thats what I most want, with huge space outposts/space station like in DS9 that can be gathering placees all around the galaxy with player vendors like there was in SWG except in the form of a mall type deal. Also having large open world pvp on far off planets, like wows battlegrounds or unreal tournement 3 style, and having thousands of planets to explore all of them open world pvp and all of them with exciting content and quests to fulfill with a badge system with thousands of badges you can earn and show off to the public. I think something like this would be fun to get going.
Either that or make funcoms "The secret world" better then; global agenda, the agency, hellgate london, tabula rasa,APB and Ill settle with that. If not, maybee blizzard can make us a ground/space sim that its vasness hasnt been seen in any mmo to date.
C&C Tiberian Sun: Firestorm, MMORTS (could make it a MMOFPS)
Tbh i don't know many already existing IP's that would work well in a MMO format
A C&C MMO would be awesome. Think I'd prefer something TPSy because, despite it's bugs, it was just too cool seeing all of that great stuff from C&C up close and personal in Renegade.
I m sure this has been mentioned already or I hope so anyways. I'd like too see Blizzard make a Diablo MMO universe. People could pick either side of the Heaven vs Hell. I would like to see the usual MMO leveling experience with a twist on PvP. No "battlegrounds" just regular world PvP. I think it makes the game more fun. People start fights randomly or get ganked then get their guilds involved and eventually it turns into a blood bath. Since we need people in these circumstances it helps make the game more social I think. As for the twist I think it would be excellent too say users had too kill a certain amount of the opposing faction and they would gain advance skill points that allowed them to essentially tweak a character. I m referring more to the leveling system in EQ once you reached the max level you could start gaining these type of "advanced" skill points that tweaked your characters abilities to give them a small edge. I would personally like the game to be pointed toward hardcore gamers when people had to work a longer period of time to reach a certain "peak". A return of raiding where maybe 1 of each class gets a piece of armor at the end of a very long dungeon. Casual gaming can be fun but it seems to me developers keep lowering the bar after each expansion. Makes the game lose value for the people that have been playing since launch. I realize this is too allow new players to catch-up but I believe it still takes away from the game. We need too see a new take on this from developers too find a better compromise. It would be great too see a game that had developer tools for people to start making mods at launch. Most gamers use mods and it be great too see a publisher recognize and support modders in this way. They can make the game much more enjoyable and help fill holes that developers left unfilled. This is my idealistic MMO from days of playing SWG, EQ and UO. I doubt we'll see anything decides casual gaming for sometime but it can't stop me from wishing!
This is a good thread and question. So many people criticise games now a days that I think all that energy could be more concentrated in giving new ideas like what type of ip would be your favorite to release. Id like to see starcraft mmo, 'World of starcraft". Granted Iv never played the game lol, but I got to thinking about it one day and thought it would be cool none the less. Iv of course seen screenshots and videos. ITs so colorfull that the world would be unique and very fantasy. Could be a great theme park game with levels and the normal theme park stuff. Be more sucessfull then wow was, hmm..what else..I just like the name WORLD OF STARCRAFT. Just think if they actualy brought a game into develoment like that, how would the public precive it and would it do well if it was a great game that brought compleatly new stuff to the table.
I just saw the trailer <.<...It looks like it might even stay close to the book.
They could have the game set when voldemort first came to power, as to not conflict with the books in the least. So much is unknown that it would be a perfect time.
They could even allow younger players to play a "web version", and older players to enjoy a normal MMO type game.
Mass Effect (which as someone said it's SWTOR, and it isn't...).
There are some suggestions that I really like so far; Black Company and Dune stand out, but I'd like to see one set in Asimov's Foundation Universe, or one based in the Battle School of the Ender series. Or to go in a different direction, have one based off the Discworld universe, but it has to keep the irreverance that Pratchett put in the books.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
I am so late so all most nice IPs are already mentioned before
If we look D&D worlds, so yes - Faerun is most complex world but somehow this overuse/abuse of elves and dwarves are started annoying, esp so many MMOs are simple and stupid copy-pastes of theme. So I would see gladly development of MMO based on Ravenloft. Something weirdo and different tho we will see what comes from WoD.
And then my biggest thing - DUNE! Not only archmaster Frank's books but add there all prequels written by his son Brian with Kevin Andersson, add some time-jumping possibilities to join all those thousands years of universe and we get MMO for every taset. You can travel on spaceships, combat and discover new worlds, or you can explore and fight on different planets.
And for sure some cyberpunk MMO, be it based on Blade runner or Gibson & Co works.
And big NO-NO on these: don't let them in hands of Cryptic or analogues, greedy walletmongers etc.
Dune would rock. It could be set in the time of the movie era or in the past which is covered in some of the books. Great novel series by the way.
I, I, I thought I was the only one. Dune II was what got me started in gaming altogether. Long live Atreides!

ShadowRun plain and simple... Glad to see Microsoft no longer owns the electronic license, and waiting to see what the original owner does with it....
RIFTS, would make a very good alternative MMO, I have had talks with Palladium's IP dept on this and they are very excited to get something rolling, however they will not be funding the project, they will only be available for resource managment, and to insure the authenticity of RIFTS stays true. So better bring your pocketbook if you want to talk shop with these guys.
Some of the stuff I love to see brought over to an MMO is actually some of the RPG titles that got me going into MMO's.
Wild Arms was a great RPG and would lend itself well to an MMO I think, got all your classic classes in it to begin with.
And then you got Xenogears great game with mech battles in it for those that want Mechwarrior type game.
Also Suikoden 2 just great, I mean come on you have 101 different guys you can recruit or something like that, they all had there own special abilities and stuff.
Cernan dig the idea for Vampire Earth series, I read it all and it would lends itself well to an MMO. But as you put it, it would either be RTS or one way the Bears, Wolfs and Cats against the Kurians.
Classes:
Bears (Tanks!)
Wolfs (Ranged DPS)
Cats (Rogue type DPS)
Kurians (These guys would have to play the healer role for the most part)
ezjay1975 Otherland is a great setting, not sure what you would use as the classes or anything. I mean the book had an MMo being played in it to begin with, I imagine that the MMO they where playing had a AoC feel to it.
Dark Tower great series by Stephen King, but not sure what classes you would actually play in it. Technically there was a wizard then a cowboy/knight and that was pretty much it. I am sure there are other things you could make for classes but you really only had Roland, Jake , Eddie and Susannah, I guess also Oy could be a playable character, but all of them where technically cowboy sharp shooters. And then you had the bad guys the Man in Black, and the Crimson king which both would just fall under mage/wizard.
I would also dig a Dragonlance MMO as dorangon86 said.
And a few mentioned Firefly as well as Farscape both could be MMO's.
Irish Wizards101 man, F2P for kids and stuff, stole most of the stuff from Harry Potter and the game while kiddish it is not that bad, played it for a little while and its actually fun.
Maniacfox agree with you and with others that have brought up Dune, but more than likely it will kill the series for people like some of the other book series that have gone to a game or MMO and been butchered.

A song of ice and fire. with the hbo series on it's way, maybe we'll see an mmo in our life time.
Beavis & Butthead MMO:
Beavis = DPS Belching & Farting
Butthead = DPS Belching & Farting
Todd = Tank
Stuart = Gnome Rogue or Caster Class
Mr. Anderson = Stupid quest giving NPC
Mr. Buzzcut = Tank
Daria = Caster/Healer
God I'm just excited they're coming back to TV!

A Desert Punk MMORPG
Lmao that would be truly epic.
It could be FPS or TPS, IDC.

Give me some "Hitchhiker'sGuide to the Galaxy" MMo action and id be in heaven!!!!!

steampunk with airships and quirky tech, Last Exile comes to mind,
or a Jules Verne style universe
or something in similar style to Blade Runner universe
or alternate history mmos
anything that isn't the same old orcs, elves, knights, sorcerers, etc.
A C&C MMO would be awesome. Think I'd prefer something TPSy because, despite it's bugs, it was just too cool seeing all of that great stuff from C&C up close and personal in Renegade.

Mass Effect (which as someone said it's SWTOR, and it isn't...).
Dragon Riders of Pern, I have a link around somewhere suggesting that ages ago (just cant find it!)
Written by Anne McCaffrey everything from crafting to dragon riders, Pve and PvP are all built into
the novels and would be great as an MMO
There are some suggestions that I really like so far; Black Company and Dune stand out, but I'd like to see one set in Asimov's Foundation Universe, or one based in the Battle School of the Ender series. David Weber's Honor Harrington universe. Man, that would be a space sim to play...

ShadowRun most definately!
See my blog on how the ShadowRun (or any MMO) should be made.

Battletech or Mechwarrior or Mekton
Cyberpunk
SLA Industries
A Cyberpunk/Mekton hybrid would be sweet, especially as they shared the same FNF system.
The Sonya Blue Novels .... by nancy Colins was a really cool trilogy .. (Troll Hitmen were described wonderfully )
