i didnt read through all the posts but i was running a AMD x2 2.90 CPu and it got about 15 frames (frames are capped at 30) FYI. im running a 9800GTX+ in my computer i replaced the x2 CPU and now have a AMD x4 3.4 and i now run this game at max settings running 30FPS so dont replace your GPU replace your CPU
Is that Athlon or Phenom and which socket AM 3 or 2+? I've never put together a AMD they have all been intel over the years. I'm putting together a PC for my cousin so he can play 14 and I decided to go AMD route since it will be cheaper for him. I haven't decided either to go with Athlon II x4 or Phenom II x2.
If you're going for like a 700~ system I'd say phenom II x4, some variation of it. If a super budget 500~ system, some kind of lower athlon.
You're negative about every aspect of the game. Find another forum of a game you actually like because obviously that's going to be your only thought here and we get it, thanks for your input.
don't tell me what to do. you're welcome
Sit here and flame and hate then. You know, instead of focusing on something you might actually enjoy, just be an ass to people about an unfinished game still working through development and changes.
You know, maybe if you weren't such a sycophant you might be able to read a post like mine and not be so offended that you demand I leave your forum. How about some... Objectivity? Peer review?
Don't be a fundamentalist fanatic over a game you want to like. Take a look at the facts and reality of what is going on with where FFXIV is at and how soon it is supposed to launch
Really, I do want to like this game, the gods know we need a decent MMO beyond the WoW format. But the way this game is going and how soon it is supposed to release just makes me very skeptical.
So you and the sunshine brigade can hope and wish for this game to be all that if you want. Just don't stop me from being a skeptic.
I'm not saying to leave because I give a crap about this particular forum, I'm saying stop being masochistic over somethig you clearly loathe. Go to something you like and praise it and enjoy your time with others other than trying to take a dump over people for their choice of game.
I'd like some info as well. I have a Q6600 2.4, 4GB ram,Nvidia 8800GT Pre-Overlocked Edition and Windows 7 64-bit. My score on low settings is 3100. I could OC my CPU to 3.0 and that a lone got my score up to 3400. My question is if I keep my CPU overclocked are temps of 60-70 okay because that's what I was getting when I ran the benchmark....I also heard it's safe to OC the CPU with a stock fan just as long as I don't go over 3.0. Next quest is "if" I was to upgrade something else should I upgrade my video card and get a GTX 260 or a SSD hard drive and which would up my score more than the other. Btw I have a 7200 sata 500gb which windows scores at a 5.9.
You should be able to oc your Q6600 to +-3.0 with stock cooling (got mine to 3.2, but it may differ slightly from cpu to cpu)
The temp will rise a bit but not much.
You have 60-70 degrees at 3.0, I would suggest to get some better cooling on ur cpu then, and maybe push it some more.
In regards to gpu, depends on ur budget. Buy a higher end card or slam another 8800GT in SLI.
A faster drive would also be nice either ssd or 10Krpm sata, again depends on ur budget.
Me I have a Q6600 at oc 3.2 + 8Gram + 2* ati 2900XTX crossfire and raptor 10K rpm
Got 1030 on high (didnt check low). Problem is the bench doesnt support crossfire (or sli for that matter).
I've got a new rig setup on paper but will wait with buying until I ran the real game on my existing rig.
I have been thinking about what to do for upgrades myself, I know I need RAM and a video card, just not sure which. I'm not looking to have the game cranked up to max, I'd be happy with a middle of the road setting. I also don't know anything about overclocking, here's my specs, it's not pretty though.
I was thinking about adding in 4GB of RAM to bring me up to 8GB and video card is where I'm really unsure. I used to have a card that ran EQII fine, but that burnt out and put me back using the intergrated card. I'd say I don't really want to spend more than $200.
You do realize that a 32 bits system only can handle 4 gb and that is included the GFX memory?
Sorry but I think you'll need a new machine for FF XIV anyways. The processor is to slow and it would take water cooling to get it up to the 3ghz or so which is what you needed from what I heard (and from the not 100% reliable benchtest).
Of course a Corsair H50 liquid cooling system would do it, it cost something like 80 bucks but it is kinda hard work to change it, took me half an hour and I work a lot with computers. And overclocking is risky if you don't know what you are doing, even people who does mess up at times.
Then you probably have DDR 1 or 2 memories, 2 is ok but one is far to slow. 3 is to prefer.
And the GFX card is hopelessly outdated, it was crappy already when it was new, my traveling laptop laughs at it.
My advice: Check if the motherboard can handle a better processor. Otherwise get a new processor, new MB, new memory and new GDX card. Also check how much the PSU (Power supply unit) can take. And change to Windows 7 64 bits.
As for GFX card I would get a Nvidia 470 or a ATI 5850 for performance and price, depending on which you prefer. The 460 and 5830 are a bit low for this game, it is worse than AoC at launch for how good stuff you'll need.
Actually I did not know that, I thank you for that information, it made me recheck everything to make sure I wouldn't make a mistake that would end up with me wasting money. In the end I took the most common advice I've seen on these boards, I needed a new pc anyway, this one is 4 years or more, makes the sound of a jet engine anytime I do anything.
I just went ahead and bought a new computer, used ffxiv beta minimum requirements as a baseline for my purchase and here's what I ended up buying.

the game wont run decent at ALL with a x2 cpu so dont even think about that just FYI
Thanks you 2.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 QC (2.66GHz, 8MB Cache)
RAM: 9GB Triple Channel 1333Mhz DDR3
Graphipcs: Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX460
HDD: 1TB - SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 32MB Cache HDD
Cooling: Alienware High-Performance Liquid Cooling
So...now I think I should be fine to run most games including FFXIV right?
