These days its so pathetic if a game dont have jump they say its sucks even when a game is very good for most, they still say game sucks nomatter what, very sad very sad:(
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Don't think so, but I dont care. If the game has it fine I will use it, there really nothing that it does most of the time, like you dont run and jump across a canyon or anything, if they did do that it might be great to have jumping but other than people using it to bunny hop and anoy others there is no reason for it to be in game. If it is not no big deal either, while I dont see you actually jumping down a few feet in real life and not breaking or hurting youself some way, not always happen but there is a chance. In the game you can jump down a hill and nothing happens. Well honestly there should be a repercussion to you jumping off a hill like you break your leg and you cant move or you sprain something and your movement is slowed down until you can go into town and heal yourself, the whole I just lose some HP..... you should break/sprain something just like your equipment takes damage your body should as well. And this is true of anything you do in the game, fight a boss he damages you and breaks your sword arm and there is no healer there to fix it well your sword abilities need to be penelized because of that.
Sorry what freedom would that be? The fact that your jumps rival those of Michael Jordan? Jumping brings no freedom until they are able to implement you jumping accross a ravine that would be jumpable in real life if you where strong and could run fast and could jump far then there is no freedom. You don't jump down a hill in RL do you? And if you do I hope you have a parashute that will prevent you from killing yourself or seriously injuring yourself, or your diving into the water or something. Now if we are talking about games like CoH or something then that is a different story cause in those games it would be game breaking since some of the super powers you have include being able to jump and fly and all that. But for the other games there is no super jump or anything it is just random jumping. Again this is not Lara Croft Tombraider where jumping and doing acrobatic things gets you across the map.

it's annoying and has no place in most games. It's more annoying in FPS type games though, they shouldn't be able to hit the broad side of a barn while jumping around like an idiot and should have a chance of shooting themselves in the head.
I would feel annoyed if a character is confined solid to the ground which to me has no place in most games, I mean it's pretty stupid if your character can do most things like in real life, yet is unable to jump, sort of silly when games do not offer a jump option. How often do you see a person jump in real life? not very often un less there playing a sport, id reckon most people never jump at all so how would it be unrealistic?
When you are brutally murdered, how often does a menu pop up over your corpse asking you if you'd like to respawn?
Don't bring reality into this...it's a stupid argument that has no place in gaming.

The freedom to jump as opposed to not being able to jump. It's my personal preference. There's really nothing you're going to say to change it. There's really no "right" answer for this topic.
In another thread about the same damn thing, jumping can add to or break immersion.
How it adds to Immersion, it allows you to get to places you couldn't without jumping...
It can break immersion for many reasons.
Normally, in most games you can jump too high.
Or you can jump off something that would normally brake your legs, yet you scamper just fine, maybe just with less health that comes back easy enough (like the zep towers in WoW)
In most cases, you not going to jump a fence... you'd walk around it.
FFXI I didn't mind not being able to jump.
Guild Wars I did... like when I got stuck on a small plant or trapped between Gwen and a rock >_<
Realism in gaming ruins it, see the move from Quake style physics and gameplay to Call of Duty garbage in the FPS genre. In Asheron's Call you could run at superhuman speeds and jump 4 - 5 times your height depending on what your skills were at, and it was fun as hell being able to scale certain buildings and areas. You could take shortcuts in quest dungeons by cleverly jumping. Hell half of their quests utilized it. Certain areas had precise jumps you had to make from floating platform to floating platform, and if you screwed up you'd be plunged into a pit full of monsters or acid and have to fight your way back up.
True so very true... Sorry its just that people claim it gives them something that makes very little sense, you can not argue that you can jump like in the action games in a console or anything because most of the games I see that do not implement the jump mechanic do not need it because that is not what they are doing. And it is the same in the ones that do implement jump you can not jump like the action games to reach a ledge and grab unto it or anything it is just being able to jump on something or jump down from something.
I also like the jump mechanic as a mater of fact loved it in WoW, but then again it was not truely necessary in WoW imho, most of it could be done with out jumping once, sure there where area's where you needed it but they where not too many of them.
Lets see:
RFC: Probably to get down from something other than that was not needed.
WC: Now here it was used quite a bit and I thought that was great.
DM: Some places you needed it.
Ok so maybe I am wrong and it was better to have jump, but with a few bridges here and there you be good to go and it would not be needed at all. Highly doubt that no jump would break the game, all you would need is a few changes to some of the places where they did use jump.
Now if the mechanic of jump was used better I think it would really help a game out then again some games are built around the mechanic not being present and it does not make the game bad.

In the Q-bert MMO this is immersion!
I prefer the freedom of movement that jumping gives. I can't play games without it.
