Blizzard Entertainment has announced that over 800,000 Starcraft II preorders have been taken in the Americas. As the midnight launch of the game approaches here in NA, and has already passed in much of the rest of the world, the question remains: Did you preorder Starcraft II? Do you have plans to buy it later or do you stay away from all things not MMO-related?
Select retail stores in cities across the world will be open at the stroke of midnight on July 26th to celebrate the release of StarCraft II. Developers from the StarCraft II development team will be on-site to sign copies and meet players. There will be organized activities, competitions and chances to win great prizes. Be a part of this historic event in a city near you!

edit: Nevermind, I was being a bit too sassy in my original response.
Did not preorder, but will most likely buy it unless something highly negative about it comes to light.
And Zerg should have been the first campaign.
I expected more preorders, tbh.
Do we know how many were sold in asia/Europe?
Pre-ordered the collectors edition.....
It's StarCraft!
In an age where FPS games seem to be taking the stand alone community by storm, I am glad to have another quality choice.
The Gamestop I work at has quite a few preorders and I myself will be there tonight to get the collector's edition. Blizzard always does VERY well with them.
Canceled my pre order after beta, I will wait till price drop. Just StarCraft with better graphics, but thats really all I was expecting. Still not so excited to keep the pre order.
I pre-ordered, huge SC fan and I loved the SC2 beta.
Can't wait.
What the hell does this have to do with MMORPGs?
Was waiting for someone to complain about this, destroying the thread and any interesting discussion it could have had.
Well, I dunno about the rest of you 799,999 , but I am stoked!
Interesting discussion on SC2? Surely, you jest?
There are more than 800,000 threads on the topic already that long ago destroyed any interesting discussion on the matter that may or may not have remained.
I thought it was kind of cute though, just how many people post here that have no idea what the site is about these days... but that would be hijacking the thread to discuss it any further than that.
SC2 is an overpriced upgraded audio/visual fanboi fest of a rehash of SC.
That would be one side of the discussion.
SC2 is better than sex.
That is another side of the discussion.
SCwut?
Ayup, so anyway.
edit: On a personal note, I was always disappointed with how crappy a rip-off of WH40K SC was - pretty much the same with WC (though, clicking on the peasants was such a trip that I played it just for that at times)...
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20%
The OP hasn't realized that SC2 isn''t a MMO. Why is it on here?
There has always been posts on many different types of online games here.
And while the site focuses on MMOs, it also includes other online games, and even mentions some offline games.
Many MMO players also play RPGs that are not online.
I LoLed at this thin attempt to relate this OP to MMOs...
*edited this to take into account I seem to get a warning everytime I mention the 'S' word*
I wont be buying this game, its prolly good but i dont like RTS.. never liked them, i tryed SC1 barley awhile ago. but its meh imo.
Currently Playing Path of Exile
I had a beta invite for SC2 and was jazzed, as SC was the first of the Blizzard games I ever played.
Unfortunately, I never made it into the game because of various glitches. I can tell you though, that my quad core pc was screaming just TRYING to log in so you'd better have a big power supply to handle the heat running this. I will wait to buy it until I see how glitchy it is on release.
I've never been a huge fan of RTS games. But honestly, any game that's popular and it's PC only, only helps the PC gaming community when stuff like this is released. So I'm all for PC only games. And I'm glad those crazy SC fans got what they've been wanting for 10+ years. =P
I dont like Blizzard anymore, so no.
I'm really looking forward to how the story advances.
It's posted here because, quite honestly, it's big news in the gaming world and it's the first in Blizzard's triumvirate: SC 2 now, Cataclysm very soon, Diablo III next year. You can't take away from Blizzard's power in this respect.
Besides, people have ecclectic tastes and it was just interesting to see how many folks might be getting it. Today was such a quiet news day that I figured it was largely due to SC 2's media dominance...probably will be that way tomorrow too.
As for me, I'm strictly MMO or single-player RPG only. I tried the first one and got so sick of the voice overs of the units that I wanted to scream. Not to mention that micro-management just sucks. Nope, I'll be enjoying nice quiet servers on LOTRO Landroval tomorrow.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think this IP would make a good FPS+RTS MMOG.
800,000 preorders, and I ain't one of them.
Seriously, wake me up when they release the Battlechest edition, then I'll care...
As for why its posted on here? simple, Its SC2's fault for the RealID system in its entirety, and Battle.net2 will probably become a major pain in the arse since it will be a separate client to run if they are still keeping it that way.
You may not like WoW, but Blizzard is the best RTS maker around with no competition. Relic (makers of Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k) are alright but the real king is Blizz. Warcraft and Starcraft franchises are amazing.
I played it for ~6 hrs and it just pure fun Normaly i am no SP Player in RTS games, but SC2 rocks.
I preordered it @Amazon.de for 38,99€ - so a nice price for an Activison game, the ppl at the midnight sale had to pay 60€ (standard edition). So sick.
Now i have to go to bed - 5 o clock in the morning *g*
