I played EVE since March 2004. The game was pretty great for most of those years until a year ago but lately I've realized CCP seem to have a sense of entitlement to customer subscriptions and make no effort to fix issues or develop content they've added. It's always the next new shiny thing they're interested in or some lame poll that guides them rather than what's gone before. For that reason I quit EVE recently.

I played EVE for 6 years.

I played STO for one month.

Now let me ponder which game was better ... actually that is pointless because they are different games. STO is more relaxed and casual compared with EVE which is more hard core rather than casual.

Star Trek Online is an awesome game.  The problem is today with the internet you have all these annonymous people who feel it is their right to a) bash a game or b) play something for 5 minutes and bash it or c) just aren't satisfied with anything.

A lot of the hate I see on the internet is from c.

Star Trek Online is a great game and is continuing to grow and develop.  The developers know that Sector Space and the Land Combat need work/change and are going to be doing what is necessary to improving them.  But what can I say about space combat?  It's almost perfect, the best space combat in any sci fi MMORPG and possibly game.

That is a matter of opinion.  You shared yours, let others share theirs.

Its looking like you are  using this as an excuse to come in here and "quell the haters" as its been stated before.

A lot of the hate I see on the internet is from c.

A lot of the hate is the result of Cryptics blunders and failures.

Again, thank you for  your opinion.

Sure some people may like it.  Its just the people that do like it come in here and try to put down the ones that dont because they think we are just whining about nothing.  We arent, and we have reasons to why we say what we do.   Some people are just not willing to see the other side.

Right now I can go to the sto forums and link several threads here that  show discontent or plain dissatisfaction, or players wanting cryptic to fix problems that have been around for to long.  Obviously, this game is not the gem that people want to make it seem.

And what was the person I quoted doing? Sure wasn't spreading the love they feel for the game. Nope, making fun of or putting down someone for liking a game.

It's great to see both sides. I'm all for it. Put it in a manner where you sound like you can make an educated argument. That's my opinion.

The same arguement can be applied to the defenders that want to "quell" the hater.

What I would like to see happen is the negative feedback actually be listened to rather than automatically branded as trolling or flaming or just outright whining.  How is a game supposed to improve or recognize its faults if all the feedback accepted is positive?  It cannot.  All it can do is continue down the path and ultimatley fail.

Believe it or not... I want this game to succeed.  Yeah.. surprising isnt it?  I like Star Trek, so naturally I want the game to be successfull.  So far, I see this game as almost an insult to the IP.

If you are a fan of the IP then I don't need to explain to you what Star Trek is about.  What Star Trek has become in 40 years.  Can you honestly say that the game reflects this at all?  This game is a run and gun shoot first ask questions later type of game.

Compareing  EVE to STO is silly.  But here are the main reasons why people would do such a comparaison :

1- EVE is way to complicated and sophisticated for the player , so therefor the player goes to STO where it is currently on easy mode , getting rear admiral from the beginning takes under a month, without even trying to get there. You'll get to rear admiral before you even notice, lol.

2- EVE is a high risk type of game play , as any space MMO should be , when I'm playing some outer space game I ain't expecting to see bunnies roaming happily ever after.  So they turn to STO where again there is absolutly no risk. Get blown to pieces, but no worries you get everything back at Space Station 01 or whatever (Haven't played STO since march , Lifetime sub also LOL)

3- EVE encourages team play , if you don't team play regardless if it's pirateing or whatever you won't get too far. So again those people turn to STO where again everything is easy mode and soloable and team play is pretty much at zero. Unless you play in those fleet war thingies like capture the flag. But if it's PVE , your sadly better off with your NPC crew then real people crew.

4- Main reason why alot of people turns down EVE : It's a free minded MMO , meaning there are no levels and you can pretty much venture anywhere you want from day 1.  Also the fact that you can't bot for EXP turns alot of people down from EVE along with botters and gold sellers. When you see a botter you can suicide run and blow the living hell out of them. At this stage getting the gold back is really no problem at all.

The only thing I'll give STO that EVE doesn't have is the fact that in STO you can return / take missions while in space, in EVE you need to dock at station where the agent is to get a new mission.  That's the only + I can give STO over EVE , so you can't say I'm 100% ditching off STO , I did try hard to remember how STO was and that was one thing that really caught my attention over EVE.  The rest of STO from my point of view : Meh , couldn't be worst but could of been alot better at launch.

Deep down when you do the math between STO and EVE : EVE wins in every aspect. Again , most people deny EVE only because of it's complexity and also that you can't rush to level cap and solo every player. Which is great ! You see a smack talker , you blow the living crap out of em !   I'm glad EVE is so complex , you barely have any morons playing the game , granted you get the casual and somewhat rare gold spammer but other then that it's awesome!

I've pre ordered STO and am a lifetime sub . Boy was it a mistake.  Regardless , I've moved on and I do not encourage anyone on getting STO. If you want to try it out, go ahead . I won't judge any of you for trying it.

please explain what features make star trek an awesome game, i can list at least 20 major things that are wrong with the game and it has gottem overwhelmingly bad reviews.

the problem with people who defend sto is that they dont actually talk about the game, as they really dont have much to say.

i agree that the game is growing content wise, but its not "developing". the first 6 months of its life has involved cryptic trying to fix things that were wrong with the game at launch. that should have been done during beta testing, so i would say there actually getting the game ready for release. i guess if you meant they were "developing" the game in the sense that it was still in beta this would apply. but the way you make it seems is that they are "developing" new features for the game, which is not true.

space combat perfect????? if you consider flying around in a circle while hitting your spacebar perfect, you are much much more easily satisfied than myself. and to be honest eve has better space combat, not to mention a dozen single player games (x3 for example).

to be honest, i find it almost impossible that sto will be a decent game for at least another year, theres way too many major failings in the game- lack of klingon content- bad/no crafting- extremely poor exploration system- adding a cstore to a half finished game- disrespectful treatment of customers by cryptic- pathetic amount of content- lack of variety/repetitiveness of what content there is..... and the list goes on and on and on

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

No. I was using that quote to point out that some people have the wool pulled over their eyes and are "suckered" into buying a shoddy product. Happens all the time with all types of merchandise, not just games.

Come to think of it, we should try to implement a "lemon" law on bad games.

The OP writes in his post that he normally cant get into spacegames. It just makes the topic of this thread hilarious.
