I don't think that will be an accurate statement to make. I think XIV is more accessible than XI, and although it clearly isn't WoW, intelligent players from that mmo may get into it.

Couldn't help but laugh so hard when I read this, even though I know there are a few out there, but from all my time spent playing WoW I didn't encounter intelligence very often...snicker...

Prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.

It's people like this that give gamers a bad name. Seriously.

Just being severaly honest about my experiences.  Based at how the WoWbies respond to how FFXIV is being designed and even their own forums, or any forum on WoW really; that alone speaks volumes of truth in my words.  You can't deny that...

A majority are to be forgotten, but like I said, some are worth getting to know ~ for instance there are several rather intelligent members of our Linkshell that play WoW currently.

Returning to topic, FFXIV is extremely good and at least to me; is that next MMO I've been waiting for since FFXI.

Lol oh so they're only worthwhile because they play FFXI. Gotcha. Those WoW purists are suuuch jerks, they make fun of people that don't play their game and act elitist towards everyone else. Soooo not cool and totally disimilar from everyone else.

    Come on.

Somehow I don't think it was much of a joke. I for one love WoW, but aI also love FFXI, and some other games. But enough WoW hate.

FFXIV is going to be awesome.

That isn't going to happen. This game first and foremost will cater to the current FFXI fans and we'll see how much they can expand after that. Guarantee beta players will see the same thing at launch but in a more polished form. Ain't nothing drastic going to happen here at all. :)

No SaintViktor, I don't think you are getting what I am saying.

Beta, you take your Release Canidate and open it up to your beta testers.  You make fine tuning to the client.  Then you go gold and ship.  This is how everyone else does it, and if that were the case then you would be right.

SE does THAT differently.  They release a TEST Client to the beta testers with the features they want tested.  Thier Release Canidate is not given to the beta testers.  Instead they swap in and out features from the RC to the TC.  I've seen the 1/3rd of the game thrown around.  So many of the features that you would normally see are simply not there.

So.....  It is not that they are going to make anyting major happen, but we may see some major things happen (because they have already been working on it prior to the beta and have just not shown people it yet).  SE treats a Beta Test as a TEST and not a pre release demo.

The Graphics Engine is really the only thing you could take to the bank.  It will be tweaked but I doubt its any different then what they have in the RC.

I believe the third phase is closer to what you are thinking of in terms of Beta.  The current phases are more in line with what people would think an Alpha would be.

^ this a million times. The beta isnt a marketing beta or  demo . If you whant to know if the game is good or bad wait till release.Tons of people making decisions on a small portion of the game  is just stupidity. The preorders are for the FF FANS ONLY. Everyone else just wait until the game is released and you can see if is worth your coin or not.Otherwise go ahead and preorder and i can tell 100% certain you wont be satisfied.

By example, lets say you dont like the controls UI whatever, but the content and world(open world btw unlike FFXI) is beyond amasing to the point you get acostume to the controls just becouse the rest is to good to pass out.Is exactly how i started in FFXI, i absolutly hated the controls and such at start, but the world was so inmersing and the content etc was so good i just had to get acostume to the controls and such, to the point i really didnt care anymore.

So they shown on beta the thins they needed to fix , the broken parts of the game. And the result is thousands of complains from people that cant freaggins finally understand that SE dont roll the same way other companies do.

But anyways, they said they are making serious changes to the battle speed , ui and controls for beta phase 3 .So everyone should just wait and see in what direction they will be heading , and not start blha blha blha taste bad, when you are eating raw meat.

But I really like nearly raw meat.  Brown the edges give me the MEAT!

Look at you delving into conjecture. The game may be close to totally developed, but those elements you call polish are key to the game play.

Since the testers have not touched the sum total of the product and are still inputing their feedback, the point stands. The game is not complete.

This close to the release, VERY LITTLE will change, so it's as close to complete as you can get without actually releasing it.  Nothing core is going to change.  What you see now is what's going to be released.  Deal with it.

Even so , as long as they bring the same quality content they did on FFXI with the advanced/ diferent gameplay/ hardware they have on FXIV to me that will be a winner on my book.

If you dont like it then dont play it , that simple. If your scared it will fail dont preorder and wait till after release.Only time will tell.

Lol people still don't get it. You are correct, the major features and game design won't change in a few months. However, the game client beta testers are playing on right now, and the client that SE is working on are completely different. Phase 3 will implement more of the new features such as controls and UI to the beta client, and you will see some major changes there.

If you don't like grouping, skill based classes, and the PVE Final Fantasy world, that probably isn't going to change by the time the game is released. If you don't like the controls, UI, or combat speed that very well may change. It's too early to tell at the moment, and no one knows what this game truly looks or plays like currently.

I'm hoping by launch they will at least address the control/ui feedback from people who want to use mouse+keyboard similar to the more conventional uses for mmos. That one change would really help me out personally. I have PS3 controllers but I really would prefer my mousie and keyboard. Especially since I have a >$80 mouse I'd like to make use of.. :P

Apparently (I'm not actually in beta so I'm not breaking any NDA here) beta phase 3 will be smoothing out mouse control; however not sure if there will be any changes to the keyboard control.

Again, we are discussing LIKE here...hence, my personal opinion and not developing a treatise on overall quality.

Of course with the NDA, might be too early for anyone to say.

"The game has potential, but the Client we are testing needs a lot of work before it can be considered a good product."

I'm not sure how much will they bother updating this client, probably things that require more testing and not much else.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I can usually tell by the first few levels if I like a game enough to buy it or subscribe. Sure I have been faked out a few times (WAR for example) but for the most part, I know early on if I like a game or not.

This is what the OP is wanting to know....that first impression. Simply put, do you fall into the "Meh, I have the FFXIV beta on my computer...I might play some this weekend" or "Hell, where did the last 20 hours go?!?!?".

Of course with the NDA, might be too early for anyone to say.

Most people do judge things by first impressions and Square Enix should make their game have an amazing first few levels if they want more people to give it a chance.

I don't think you should always judge something by first impressions though.  I had a great first impression of AoC, but it actually gets worse as you progress in levels (it was still a nice game).  The Matrix movie I found to have a really boring first few minutes, but I really enjoyed the movie once it picked up.  Similarly Final Fantasy XIII was fairly uninteresting and easy until you reached Gran Pulse.  Books are even better examples as a lot of them start out pretty dull as they are introducing the story and setting because the plot hasn't developed yet.  You can really be fooled by first impressions and wind up with something that's shallow or you can be wowed after your initial impression with complexity.
