Hmm.. I never played GW, but I have been really excited for Guild Wars 2. I was just reading around and I came to the realization that pvp will only happen in the mists.. Blahh.. While I realise a lot of more pve oriented players or people who like their food separated on a dish want their pvp on the side and their pve by itself, and are concerned about PK'ing while questing or enjoying the PvE immersion. However, in my opinion in an open living world it just kills immersion to not have the ability to kill in the open zones. Idk why but I just hate the limits to killing in certain areas, especially when its limited to instanced areas. Yet, this is not a deal breaker for me just something that concerns me with how immersed I will be and how much I will enjoy the game. I'm not saying I wanna run around lol'PK'ing people. No, that's not me. But I wanna have that sense that I'm in a persistent world and that I'm actually at war with opposing factions inside that world, not in an instanced area. What are your thoughts on it?

well i see it theis way. all the races probably have a treaty that keeps them from attacking or they risk war. now the mists is a battlegound of honor. the battlegounds is where they prove who is the best and most honorable ..blablabla.
well, if the mobs and pve are anything like gw1 then its not really the right environment for open pvp, its not, say, aion where you can just cc the mob your on kill the other player and go back to the mob.
however who knows, the mists themselves might be a large portion of the map / have pve in it aswell.
I thought it was World vs World PvP. Everyone on your server is on your team. And you fight against other servers' teams. I think I even heard they may have 3 servers/teams in the same area all fighting it out.

Okay, I wasn't sure what lore there was behind it that prevented it, but then again small scale killing should maybe harm your reputation as a character more per se more than harm the treaties between the races, but then again idk. Also, it just would feel more persistent to me if the option were there, but yeah there would be people that abused the option. Yet, that's what you risk when you allow a world open to all options.
FOR me..no open world rvr makes this just another pve game.Open world rvr sets a game apart.Thank goodness there is another major game RIFT, that promises to deliver just that.(yes...I am looking for my DAOC replacement)
In the Q&A's I just read he discussed pvp in the mists as 3 servers paired off against each other, so yes the people from your server will be with you, but he discussed something about transferring servers at the time of WvW?
Yeah I feel you man, however there is a lot of things that Arena Net is doing with this game that I like and I don't wanna mark it off just yet. But, with me being an extremely PvP oriented player it's hard to overlook this certain area.
GW2 is likely to be programmed for PvP from the ground up. The WvW PvP will likely feel just like open world PvP. Only now, ganking players will actually have meaning for your team.

though no rvr combat does bug me, i found gw pvp to be some of the most balanced and interesting pvp of any game ive tried.
gw2 has some shoes to fill.
Well, any developer that creates an open world pvp environment for all servers severely limits their overall player base. However, implementing PvP specific servers could be a feasible option as well. I like PvP, but I am also a father and tend to need to go afk at various points and times to tend to the kiddo. I used to only play on PvP servers, but parenthood pretty much stopped all of that. I appreciate the relative safety of pve servers, especially when the kiddo wakes up with a nighterror.
I don't know, WvW actually sounds more intriguing than RvR. Hopefully it will inspire loyalty and camaraderie among players the likes we have not seen since DAoC.

Tell me about it. Guinevere server had some awesome teamwork on all sides. I played on Hibernia, and when the main general for our largest alliance died irl, there was a huge memorial service out in Emain. All three realms came together with little incident, well not much of one after we crashed the server. DAoC had a great community among friends and enemies.
World vs. World pvp sounds extremely interesting. I could spark a sense of community that DAoC had.
It's all part of the necessary evil these days. These games simply cost too much money to make to take any chances, now it's sad because it stymies creativity but I can't blame them. Eventually there will be enough hardcore people that this will never be an issue ever again.
I haven't heard anything of this sort. Could you link a source for that?
The lack of open world PvP makes me much more interested in the game. I'm LONG past tired of FFA gankfests. Looking over ones shoulder all the time, gets tiring. Others are welcome to their FFA full loot gankfests, but I want no part of those games.
i agree, Conquer online was a good example (might stiill be i dont know) of this. it was not fun and epecially with GW's, where the first strike usally means you win when it comes to a 1v1
There are a few games coming out with OWPVP. So cost is not a factor and risk can be avoided by other means.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Meh.
PvEers call it a gankfest.
PvPers call it content.
Too each his own.

pvp has never been consitered content. otherwize everyone would think APB has loads of content.
the game is still focused on PVP, but PVE is the testing grounds and for fun.
I don't mind.
It'll keep the high powered jerks from killing others half their level, and running away when someone the same level arrives to actually fight back.
And that's why you don't see too many games that have a world open to all options.
As to the PvP in Guild Wars 2, there is a lot of information on the main website. The reason there is no open world PvP is because the other players are not your enemies, there are no factions or realms. There is a huge threat to the entire population so all of the races have joined together to stop it.
Yes, some people may not like it, but it is what is. I could care less, because they have also put in an option for all you PvP players to enjoy PvP from lvl 1 to max level. The Server vs Server PvP is definitely the way to go for PvP players. You can begin at lvl 1 and still be a factor because it's a giant warzone with many battle objectives and such. You can lvl to max by doing nothing but playing this mode, if you'd like. For those of you who need a WoW comparison, compare it to the Warsong Gulch and other battles, but you never have to wait to queue up at all and the battle is always going on, not to mention on a much larger scale.
I'm not worried about open world PvP, I'll have plenty of PvP to keep me happy without having to kill the poor, low level loner who just so happened to cross my path...or worry about being said low level loner.
not only that, but with the ability to quickly move anywhere in conjunction with killing nooblets, you beome untouchable as a greifer.
oh really !! Maybe in your eye's but not in mine.
Don't get me wrong, I love good pve if it's done right.
But it being a testing ground is laughable at best.

It's real easy for a game to say it's coming out. It's slightly more difficult to not flop a year after release
well good for you, but back here in reality GW1 is pretty much the same and it took off just fine.
