Nice, interesting that they put the sith race in as playable.
The sith are extinct, that red-skinned guy is a ZABRAK and NOT a sith. Either bioware got it wrong (ignoring StarWars iron-clad lore) or the correspondants here are lacking considerably.

you didnt read the article cause "Among the most exciting character types you’ll be able to choose from is the Sith Pureblood. For the first time ever in a video game, Players can choose to be a member of the original Sith Race, the red-skinned descendants of such notorious Sith Lords as Naga Sadow and Marka Ragnos. The rage of these fallen ancestors of the Sith Pureblood lives on in the Sith Warriors who dominate the battlefield with their intimidating presence and aggressive tactics."
So what you're telling me is that they're butchering the original iron-clad lore even further than originionally anticipated?
First off, the Sith were NOT (and are NOT) an evil race of people. The dark jedi found them long ago and learned from them, only to betray (and kill them off) in order to steal their knowledge and tech. THERE ARE NO LIVING DECENDANTS OF THE SITH. They are dead, gone, and obliterated. What "LucasArts" are butchering as "The Sith" in this game are ACTUALLY just Dark Jedi, not sith.
Let me say this again, the sith NO LONGER exist in this time period (after the old republic, but before the galactic war). This has already been fleshed out YEARS before episode 1 (the movie) was even produced.
So I'll reiterate my origional statement, the sith do NOT exist.....that picture is of a red Zabrak with face tattoos (read up on zabraks please and look at the picture).
Wait, I don't see any of what you just wrote ever being mentioned in any of the Star Wars movies, because you are aware that only the movies are iron-clad top level canon, right? Anything eklse in the Star Wars expanded universe is "soft canon" and can be changed anytime at the whims of LucasArts.
Ok, the races are decent, hopefully they'll reveal more playable races. What seriously bothers me though, is that I've yet to see one screenshot where the character is not wearing:
A) Knee high (hooker) boots.
A big, clunky looking set of armor.
C) Some sort of weird leather body suit with pieces of armor stuck on that looks kinda like a Sci-fi S&M suit.
D)Jedi/Sith robes that look like some kind of hooded dress that a tranny bedazzled and wore to a SW themed pride march.
Like I said, the races are nice, but if I wanted to play a game where the male characters were running around in weird women's clothing I'd just play WoW. There again, another thing WoW and TOR have in common.
Here's hoping that Bioware has better outfits in store as you progress through the game.
They've yet to implement a single "alien" race to the palette (all the current races are just color tints of the human, yes even the twi'lek, it only has the lekku). I'm just hoping we'll start to see some REAL alien races in the months to come, like Rodian, Duros etc.

Additional races are something that can be added relatively quickly in the development process. If it were me, I'd start with the races that were based more on the human body type and modify them for the near human races, then do the alien ones. It just makes sense to do the ones that take less deviation from the standard model first.

Wrong,
You didn't read up on the lore enough or on the lore of the game, it's perfectly consistent:
The dark jedi didn't wipe out the Sith, they intermingled with them to form one hybrid species over the years; many thousands of years before TOR, these Sith, whose leader like Naga Sadow were part dark Jedi (human), attacked the Republic in something called "The Great Hyperspace War"...
This ended in the Republic winning and the bulk of the Sith people being obliterated by the Republic and Naga Sadow, the leader, running to Yavin IV (which is also why the Sith Empire hates the Republic: the genocide of the past).
Then the premise of this game starts out: apparently, a single Sith lord fled the destruction with a number of his people (aka the red skinned Sith) and fled the known space of the time to settle on Dromund Kaas (a planet in the game); this Sith lord gained power and found a way to lenghten his life so he lived for over a thousand years.
So, what that means is that that guy took a lot of those red skinned tentacle dudes with him, hence their appearance in this game.
The 'purebloods' in this game are not 100% Sith (as stated by a writer on the website), they are hybrids, even more so than before; and they are merely called 'purebloods' because of their looks, not their genes.
As for the Chiss, that is another matter and probably more of a fan service; the explanation is that the True Sith encountered the Chiss while they were thriving in those unknown regions and integrated a number of them.
You won't see many Chiss besides the players (Imperial Agent) either in the game.

The implication in that article is that each non-human race will only be able to play one specific class... I seriously hope I'm wrong about that.
It does seem to be a bit ridiculous if you ask me...They've already come out and said there are more reveals to come and this is not necessarily it for these Races...But I'm not so sure that is not purely a response to the Community confusion more than anything...I could see if, and this is just a hypothetical, say the Miraluka could only be a Force Sensitive Class (Knight, Con, Warrior, Inq)...I'd be OK with that...But a Zabrak that is Sith Inq only? So...a Zabrak can't be say...A Republic Trooper? Why? Makes no sense to me at all...It's too restrictive at this point...Bu I don;t claim to be any SW canon expert either so...
We'll have to wait and see if it opens up a bit I guess...To be honest I think they only give nuggets on these reveals because there is still at least 8-9 Months before we see the actual game...That's still an awful lot of time...

What is with all this complaining? Do people actually want to be non-humaniods? Do you realized how ridiculous that is? You want to be a Hutt or something like that, something that can't even really move around? Or better yet a species that depends on a certain environment and can't go anywhere else? Absolutely ridiculous. Jeez! Some people need to grow up and realize that sometimes you just don't get what you want and stop your incessant whining. These forums sound like a grade-school soap opera or something.

Of course not, humanoids are boring, waah, I want to play as Mothra or Godzilla waaaaah. Or a Wookie LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!
One word: Spore. For the rest of us, we'll take our "boring" humanoid aliens.
I think some people are referring to the fact that all the character models revealed look basically human and are disappointed that they're not more alien.
I don't really care about it, but I admit that there isn't that much variation yet, if you leave away the color differences.
But let's be fair about it, most of the other races in the fantasy MMO's resemble humans: elves are human character models with pointy ears, dwarves are short, stocky humans.
It almost looks like in most MMO's it's either the level of character customisation that is laughable (WoW) or that there's much customisation but not that much straying away from the human form (Aion).
Only MMO's like EQ2 or CO have and highly detailed customisation and non-humanlike player character models.

Unless you are fairly new to RPGs, you should already know what this means. There have been lots of games where you can be lots of class and race combanations and each race can be more then one class, but in those games, some EXCEL better then others. The MMO Shadowbane was like this and even the more recent Elder Scrolls VI: Oblivion.
But they're also not saying you shouldn't play any other class with that race. Part of the fun and challenge in this type class/race combo system is trying to figure out how to make off race/class combos work as well or better then the excel combo. I can't tell you how many times people who played Shadowbane, after saying a certain race/class combo was gimped, would never work, only to be proven wrong soon after. Because someone would figure it out.
LOL at all the people arguing over made up lore. Hey play the game and enjoy it, don't get tied up with some imaginary storyline printed somewhere else. I am sure that LA is making sure that Bioware sticks close to the Star Wars legacy.
Nothing worse than posters arguing over their trivia knowledge.

LOL, I don't think that's what he ment. There was a time before all these "Free2Play" games and they released new content threw these fairly simple things to get, called patches.
What is with all this complaining? Do people actually want to be non-humaniods? Do you realized how ridiculous that is? LOL, ya, I agree with you, for the most part. But I don't think anyone has said they want to be a Hutt or a "certain environment" dependent race. They just want to be something like a Wookie or any other humanoid race that doesn't look that human. Just stands upright with arms and legs, looks cool and that's it.
Maybe we will get some more races that are like that, but only time will tell...
While yes, I would like to see some more "alien" like humanoid races and maybe even droids, although I can see why the might not add them, these 4 new races I think are some nice choices. As a huge Sith fanatic I love that they got the Pureblood and Zarbak in there. I mean Darth Maul, who was a Zarbak, was the best thing about The Phantom Menace.
And then having those other 2 races for the light side will be great as well. Especially the Miralukas. I mean they have no eyes and instead see with "Force Sight". I mean that's just plane cool, if you've read some of the SW novels, like Darth Bane: Path of Destructuion, or played the Jedi Knight game series, you know just how amazing "Force Sight" can be. I wonder if that's going to play into combat at all. If not, I hope it will at least play well into your character's story line.
Can't wait to play as them all. Keep it coming BioWare. There's a good chance these 8 aren't the only playable races the launch game will have as well.
Nice, interesting that they put the sith race in as playable.
The sith are extinct, that red-skinned guy is a ZABRAK and NOT a sith. Either bioware got it wrong (ignoring StarWars iron-clad lore) or the correspondants here are lacking considerably.
Regards,
Faded
the were not extinct in the old republic as far as I know, maybe dwindling but not extinct, same as the Original Mandalorians (crossing fingers >_<)
First, all the races are more or less human look-alike. You could only know that they are a different race by asking them, humans with different face paint.
Second, so far it seems races seem entirely bound to some class. Chiss can only be Imperial Spies, Miraluka can only be Consulars... I dunno but I don't feel well with this. Why not include more races which can be anything?
It has something oddly reminding of Star Trek with it's aliens all having just different noses and ears. Which is SO NOT like Star Wars! I thought a 2011 computer game could do better then 1968 Trek aliens!
Third, many races I find interesting are still left vague or entirely unmentioned. I mean as nice as Miraluka or Miralans are, they are all just near-humans. What about Twileks, Bothans, Wookiees and whatnot? There is a huge plethora of way more used species. And I really hate this idea to limit the classes or faction. A Wookiee CAN be a Jedi, see Lowbacca. A Bothan could be everything. Same a Twilek. And this is what I loathe, this idea a race is limited to a class. I find that unreasonable. Even a race is not a mass of clones and has many individuals. Why should a Chiss not become anything else? It's not like every German is engeneer, every Italan is pizza baker and every Irish is beer brewer. So why should fictional races be less diverse in their job professsions?

The Zabrak is, indeed, a Zabrak. The Sith Pureblood, however, is a Sith Pureblood.
Looking at your other posts, please also note that Sith Purebloods are not the original Sith species, either. At least not in the sense of the tentacle-bearded Massassi or Ragnos/Sadow hybrid-types. Less than half of their geneology is Sith. The term 'pureblood' doesn't mean what you think it means in this context. It's more akin to when people today say that they are 'pure Irish'—they may be in the top 10% most Irish still living, but they have more genetically in common with a modern Korean than they do with the inhabitants of Ireland in 7000 BCE.
The writers have been pretty forward about this ever since the pureblood character first appeared in Blood of the Empire.

Um, welcome to Star Wars.
This idea that Star Wars aliens are so much more alien than Star Trek aliens seems based entirely on the A New Hope cantina muppet scene (still consisting mostly of very improbably human species) and a few oddball background characters that are in no way feasible as playable characters, for animation/itemization/voicing/storytelling reasons.
Not saying that I wouldn't welcome it, just that it seems like an unfounded expectaiton.
Of course, there's always the Sarlacc Enforcer.

More accurately, each class' background selection includes backgrounds which are non-human. There is no 'race selection' as such. It's a trait of the character rather than the foundation of it.
Very Star Wars, if you ask me. Of course I hope that the selection will be larger, but I like the system.

It almost seems like our choices will be limited. If we want to play a certain class we will have to play the corresponding race? That just doesn't sound right at all. I'm dissappointed in the narowness of our choices.

Awesome, very awesome.
There's a good chance these 8 aren't the only playable races the launch game will have as well.
the were not extinct in the old republic as far as I know, maybe dwindling but not extinct, same as the Original Mandalorians (crossing fingers >_<)

Tbh, I think it's disappointing. Why?

Lowbacca was written into the Young Jedi Knights series before Lucas decreed that he wanted no Wookiee Jedi. It's been canon since then. Take it up with the Man.
More accurately, each class' background selection includes backgrounds which are non-human. There is no 'race selection' as such. It's a trait of the character rather than the foundation of it.
Very Star Wars, if you ask me. Of course I hope that the selection will be larger, but I like the system.
Wookiee hookers!?

It almost seems like our choices will be limited. If we want to play a certain class we will have to play the corresponding race? That just doesn't sound right at all. I'm dissappointed in the narowness of our choices.
Still waiting for them to announce Nautolan's, would love to make one as either Consular, or Imperial Agent. Or well, I would make both.
