I was playing MortalOnline earlier today and got into a 20 player battle. I didn't see any desync at all, and no one over vent complained about lag or desync whatsoever. Shields were bugged for a couple days until a hotpatch came around. No big deal.

Those bugs aren't going to be here forever, infact there's not an overwhelming amount anymore. They've fixed so much. So yes the game is going well and we're getting more content for the box.

Also, someone mentioned CCP already had a successful enterprise, the boardgame Hættuspil ("Danger Game") that paid for the development of EVE. They even expanded by buying Whitewolf, so if EVE lost all its players tommorow CCP would still have cash coming in from somewhere.
The advantage of using an engine build by a third party: You don't spend 7 years in development.
The disadvantage: Sometimes implementation of new features depends on the development of that engine.

At some point SV has to stop pointing fingers outward and start pointing them inward. If you believe these guys, every single thing that has gone wrong with the game, from useless DVDs, to delayed (2 month) shipping, billing issues, desync, poor inventory system (etc etc) are all caused by forces outside of their control and it's someone elses fault. Now, as many times before.. they give a Miracle Patch laundry list but of course the delay is Epic Games...
Have they ever once, through the whole beta/release fiasco issued a single mea culpa? Have they taken responsibility for anything that's wrong?

Yes, They have. They gave out free game time to compensate for server downtime so that players playing in the first month got something like a week free.

And yet two months later people still await a miracle patch to fix the game, while a large amount of subscribers admitted they have stopped logging in.
It's too bad I won't be there to see the look on the trolls faces when the Epic patch or perhaps series of patches come out allowing for the advanced AI to be implemented, flash support for UO inventory and fluff minigames, high res textures, speedtree etc. get enabled. On top of the territory control system which will be implemented soon which has nothing to do with the Epic Games patch.
Features are being added and I would even contest that the game is gaining players or at the very least not having a net loss of players since this most recent patch. Does the game have annoying bugs? Yes. Do I think it will get better? A resounding yes.
Eve has 40k concurrent players REGULARLY on their servers... I have no idea what the max players have been. Mortal normally has 400.
You are aware that EvE didnt start with that many players. In fact they started quite small and unknown, only a few thousand concurrant.
It took CCP years to get that 40k. (60k is their max)
You cant compare a game that has been out for 7 years to one that was released just 2 months ago.
Plus fact that EVE have no competition its a spacegame.
MO and DFO are fantasy games with hunreds more out there.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

Like that interview he gave where was absolutely convinced that the economic downturn would have no impact on MO's development, being that they were privately financed. That one came back to bite him on the backside when they needed to raise new capital 6 months ago.
Someone should ask him in irc where half of SV's staff disappeared to if he's surprised by how large the playerbase is.

Come 6 months ago and the supposed release date a good porportion (-198,291 shares) of the stock held by SV's Henrik's dad (Ulf) were sold.
For the second part about staff changes, all information can be found on the official forums if you're willing to trawl through things and analyse them. Suffice to say, most of the development team appear to no longer be with SV. Have a look at the old dev's profile and they're mysteriously no longer listed as employed by SV and no longer have their red name tag. We get wind of new names in the office now and then and I have to admit it is entirely my own conjecture that these are interns. SV are very good at announging new members of staff, but haven't in a long while. It is also well known they had a few interns working with them for various periods during development and I suspect (again, don't take it as truth) that's what they've had to resort to in replacing full-time devs - otherwise why wouldn't they be open about it as in the past?

Ok, if one of the main investors sells all of his shares, how does that make money for the company? I thought you were talking about them taking out a large loan or getting a grant from the government. Basically, it looks like Mr. Nystrom sold his shares during a period when the stock was maintaining a high price (i.e. "sell high")

For reference, here is the unofficial dev tracker from 2 years ago http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/2135-unofficial-dev-tracker.html If you check this against the mortalarena dev tracker http://www.mortalarena.com/devtracker.php?dev=347 you can see that all of the people listed are still devs except the three I noted above and Markus Lovdell (who apparently posted yesterday, so still has an interest in the game) 4 people leaving over the course of 2 years is hardly "most of the development team"
