Think about the Races themselves, then imagine the classes that would spring from the races... that is what has me curious, there may be classes revealed that most have not even considered yet. The Devs have said that they desired to create GW2 because they could not implement many of their ideas into GW1 without messing things up with the storyline and the game. I can think of a few classes not in GW1 that if the Devs had added them into an expansion would have really botched things up. The classes I am thinking of could naturally "evolve" from the Races mentioned so far.

I am waiting to see if my theory is correct. The next 2 reveals should pin it down one way or the other.

I've been thinking/speculating about the classes in this very way.  Given that ranger and warrior are already very norn-like and the sylvari are very new and highly adaptable, I've been thinking more along the lines of professions that fit the charr and the asura: I think likely classes would be 'ravager' and 'archanist'.

From the looks of the shadowy figure to the left of the Ele on the professions page, I would say he's dual wielding axes.  That and the history of the charr makes me think ravager would be a good fit to the game lore, and would probably be the replacement for the assassin.  I believe it would be one of the three adventurer class.

Archanist fits the asuran lore rather nicely and is a good replacement for the mesmer (yes, I know some people think mesmers were in the book, but if you read carefully, you know they only mentioned mesmer magic, not the actual profession). I also speculate this class to be able to use pistols.

Of course, Necromancer is a given since it was firmly titled as a profession in the book. I think it will take on some of the old ritualist skills

We also know that there will be class that uses rifles/pistols and not bows, so that would give us the last of the adventurer type professions, and I will tentatively call it the 'engineer'.

The last class will be other soldier profession, but it will be vastly different from the warrior. I will speculate that it will be called 'Acolyte' and it will take on some monk and paragon skills, and will use staffs, maces, and bare-hands in melee.

These are not Tyrian professions. So I doubt they'll be ingame.

Seeing as assassins might be in-game [A Canthan profession, not Tyrian] it would be unfair to not have the other expansion professions.

Not unless they name it 'Thief' instead of 'Assassin'

They'll probably combine the factions/nightfall professions with others to suit the lore more and make them more useful this time around.

Oh I don't know, a SoS Ritualist is pretty darn OP in pve right now.

This. My current main is an SoS Rit, there really isn't any PvE I can't solo. The other expansion professions are kind of useless though.

    This is not a game.

True. It will be the mesmer. Not this week though.

i would say leave these old classes to guild wars and create something new instead of same old classes.

I think they will use the classes they were going to use in GW: Utopia. There where going to be 2 new profs in there called: Chronomancers and Summoners. Big chance those are going to be part of GW2.

The Summoner class sounds an ideal way to synthesize the Necromancer and Ritualist classes, both professions I loved in GW1. Necromancer is far and away my favourite class and my namesake so I'm hoping it will survive and close to its original form, but if they amalgamate the two I won't complain (too much).

The problem is that all the classes, were fantastic in GW, but it's probably for the better to scale down. It's more armor, it's more animation, it's more skills, it's more balancing.

I suggest Deverish gets put into Warrior. Why? Because of all the variations in the game, Deverish is the one that is the most like a other class. To reduce the number of classes, Deverish while a awesome and fun class would be the best to start with.

Paragon and Mesmer and Ritualist would all mingle into a support class. Paragon had lots of protection buffs, ritualist had alternative healing(AOE, Dots) and Mesmer had many debuffs. The gameplay combo of these three classes would be great.

    Then we have:

Elementalist(classic Mage) - Since the holy triangle won't be there, maybe monk should be put into the standard mage class, with fire, frost and a monk tree(combo of smith and holy)

Ranger - Rangers are pets and bowmanship. I think traps are the most boring part of the ranger, so what if you made a melee tree. Ranger and Assassin had around the same feel of defense, so maybe making a asssasin skill tree, that focused on melee, would allow for melee rangers, attacking with both their pets and them at melee, being a light off tank.

Asssassin was an amazing class. It really is one of the best classes I have seen in a RPG. Why? Because Asssassin, when not played skillfully is very bad. Assassins really really really take skills to play well. Shadowstepping around the map, knowing everything, being fragile.... its an amazing class really, and one that takes lots of effort, like Mesmer! Combining the Ranger and Assassin might not be a bad idea. Who said that Ranger had to be a ranged class? Melee pet class sounds like a gret idea, or if the class focused around 33% bow, 33% pet, 33% melee(with dual daggers)!

Necromancer - This is the tough one. A favorite one, simply because its evil. maybe include the "avatar" abillities of taking the shape of the gods(avatar of grenth etc) because it sounds like a necromancer to take the shape of otherworldly creatures and demi gods. maybe include a left over tree from monk/mesmer/paragon...

Well, that would reduce the amount to six classes at least. The theme of the skills, would have to be changed. I think Elementalist, and Warrior are the classics that just needs to be there. Too many people simply love being a classic armor fighting sword warrior, while others love being a wizard!

    But for the other 4..

We've always talked about Druids, and shapeshifters, and Bards on GWguru! Maybe something like that? Many also suggested a fist fighting martial arts class, like a warrior monk who fight with kicks, elbows, knucles, staff(bo), polearm, and dualbladed sword(darth maul!).

Paladin, and Battle Mage could also be possibilities, though I never think they will get in. What would be the need of a paladin? They already have warrior, and since no focus on healing, but on support, then why what?

Summoner combining Necro and Mesmer and some more, would be a great class..

Which leaves room for the returning of the monk.. But not the guildwars monk, but a monk type like Ahn from the cartoon Avatar. Wielding the power of his fists and the elements and only a little healing.

Ahng would be more of an elementalist than a monk. But I have to say that would be cool to have like a martial artist kind of profession.

Except we already know that there will be no chronomancer from an interview last year: http://www.onlinewelten.com/games/guild-wars-2/interviews/arenanet-im-interview-teil-2-4666/seite-6/

And because they have stated that the books are lore-bound, its almost a certainty that necromancer will make a return making the summoner almost redundant.

The Professions page on the wiki has a concise list of whats known about the professions: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Profession

But at any rate, we are bound to get a reveal this week, and if their past actions are any indication of pattern, we should be getting a shadowy figure posted in ANet's Flicr steam sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning.

An angle to predict from, is asking what gameplay features are they most likelu to be ready to show?

A new name or not  a necromancer is about minions , a mesmer is tricky tricks.

My quess is that they are further with balancing minions against ranged damage and mellee. And that the mesmer is a late char to put into the testpool. But offcause this doesn't matter if they are so far in development that nearly everything is done.

So we will se a Necromancer like chararcter , maybe  called shaman to resemple the parts from the ritualist that merges.
