thanks
P.S. i'm not a blizzard fanboy, i'm just curious.

I have heard a couple of things. First of all they are teaming up with someone apparently ... I want to say Activision? I have heard it is going to be a shooter style mmo, supposedly its a brand new IP. Lastly I have heard it will be unveiled at Blizzcon 2010...
This might ALL very well be rumor mongered internet BS... but it is what I've heard, take it for what it is.
thanks dude.
Last time i heard any rumors it was Modern Warfare MMO and Starcraft Universe.
No links, no proof, just rumors.
But there's proof and links of them stating it's a completely brand-new IP.
Blizzard's new MMO and a Modern Warfare MMO are separate rumors. And I'm pretty sure they've shot down Starcraft, at least as the next. But there's proof and links of the statements claiming it's a brand new IP.
MMO-Champion.com, search keywords, look for blue posts, find satisfaction.
They are teaming up with the company that owns them? Awesome!

I would take the "totally new IP" statement with a grain of salt. I'm pretty sure Bioware made that exact statement regarding what turned out to be SWTOR. I'm still banking on a Starcraft MMO. Would fit very well with the FPS style combat rumor.
Blizzard's new MMO will likely shake the genre

nobody will get to play it anyways, so who cares lol
I still find that hard to believe. Much as I personally think Starcraft is rather bleh there is such a fanbase out there that you would have to think there are those in the company working an mmo concept with that world in mind.
I mean it's pretty much a guaranteed hit on their hands if and when they do it
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Problem:
Unlike WoW and WC3,
SC2 wasnt being made along side its MMO counterpart.
SC2 has more x-pacs releasing that extend the series. How would that effect the MMO's time line?
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Start it within the timeline of the original game. I suppose the argument could be made what would be the point since you know how it would play out, but I would imagine many would still get a kick out of experiencing it from an mmo standpoint.

shed some light on why exactly? and if u say 2012 i will laugh at u

idk it just peaked my interest because I am so sick of hearing bout this 2012 crap, the world will end when its damn well ready to stop trying to predict it, it was funny until people starting taking their lives, i was reading an article where a teen girl drank insect poisoning to kill herself because she said "if the world is going to end i might as well end it now" -_-

Not the least instrested in another game by blizzard it becomes a plague with all these causal crappy games on the market.
Would be disaster for whole genre if bliz comes with another mmo, 99% will follow it blindly no matter what, then all other dvvelopers try copy it even when its totall crap(WoW) end of mmo industrie so pls no.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I'd rather see Blizzard go back to their gaming roots. RTS and Action RPG's. Perhaps they could bring SC: Ghost back from the dead.
90% of the MMO population do not even browse the forums.
iam sure, you fit in the niche group market.
But the Mass majority love Blizzard's work with WoW.
Otherwise, people wouldnt go back, and Blizzard wouldnt have gained a half million from WoTLK. (11.5 Million Subs) and WoTLK about to go live in China, so, BOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!
15million subs?
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
it is not going to be a shooter MMO.
One thing that was said, If i'm not mistaken (it's been over a year since it was said on a kotatku article) is that it's going to be an mmo that "will be attractive to women as well" and a new I.P.
That is the only real official information regarding the new MMO they are working on.
I don't see a shooter being very attractive to women as a majority. I'm willing to bet it will be a very user friendly mmo, with some decent challenges for more advanced players.. kinda like wow is right now.
Might be some a couple new concepts, but nothing to hardcore because they dont' want to scare away people that are not "Hardcore".
I'm making my prediction. A mix of WOW2 and "The Sims"
Even mentioning "Project: Hydra" on blizzard property gets their security goons throwing you out. So I'd feel safe in saying no one who wants to work there for long would leak anything.
Don't expect any info unless someone high up gets canned.
If there was dont you think the haters would of made up 1000 diffrent future speculations on how the game would fail in every possible way even before closed beta was released like they usualy do?
WHAT THE <BLEEP>
What could they mean by "will be attractive to women as well"
what do women like?

Star Craft Universe would be nice sci fi mmorpg.
Have a baaad feeling about this lol.
I want Starcraft Universe SO bad. Why did they scrap Starcraft: Ghost? Maybe they turned it into an MMO? Isin't that a "new IP" even if it's in a set universe?
I just hope its good... what i do i hope all .... any mmo is good.

What do we know from the very few comments coming from Blizzard:
- It is supervised by Jeff Kaplan. Kaplan was the driving force behind the quest designs and raid content of Vanilla WOW. He was recruited after having been the most notorious GM of EQ. Together with Rob Pardo (owner of the same guild) they put a video game behind the EQ system: delete all things that aren't fun.
- Blizzard said they don't want to compete with WOW. It is a complete other market (but Blizzard uses a lot of same mechanics for all their games, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to this).
- It is casual and "open" and will appeal to a mass market (even Bobby Kotick used the word casual), while retaining a hardcore element. Pardo said recently that any Blizzard product is based on competition between players and designed for the hardcore as a final thought.
The casual part would rule out Science Fiction themes and shooters in my opinion as women don't play these games.
- It will be integrated in BattleNet.
- It would be based on a new IP.
That's about it.
A few rumours circled the internet (and curiously Blizzard reacted... so ...). They coordinated with Microsoft on the design of a new XBox and the interface to play MMO's. Blizzard experimented with the current WOW engine (lacking another one) to test a new Blizzard game on the Xbox.
So it could be a cross platform MMO with a hardcore end game but a very casual progression (perhaps even non combat progression) to let everyone play (7 - 77) and appeal to both sexes.
It is clear the basic responsive engine was ready in 2008. Perhaps they already decided the lore too, since Kaplan would only come in after the theme/lore was decided (and that was late 2008) and the finishing (engine) touches of the design approached final stages back then.
As you know the engine is what made the succes of WOW. The theme upon it has to appeal to all the above. That's where Kaplan comes in.
Edit: as a guessing game for all ... which theme was "hot" in 2008? Pirates? Werewolves? Warming up?
