I have heard a couple of things. First of all they are teaming up with someone apparently ... I want to say Activision? I have heard it is going to be a shooter style mmo, supposedly its a brand new IP. Lastly I have heard it will be unveiled at Blizzcon 2010...
This might ALL very well be rumor mongered internet BS... but it is what I've heard, take it for what it is.
it is not going to be a shooter MMO.
One thing that was said, If i'm not mistaken (it's been over a year since it was said on a kotatku article) is that it's going to be an mmo that "will be attractive to women as well" and a new I.P.
That is the only real official information regarding the new MMO they are working on.
I don't see a shooter being very attractive to women as a majority. I'm willing to bet it will be a very user friendly mmo, with some decent challenges for more advanced players.. kinda like wow is right now.
Might be some a couple new concepts, but nothing to hardcore because they dont' want to scare away people that are not "Hardcore".
I'm making my prediction. A mix of WOW2 and "The Sims"
WHAT THE
What could they mean by "will be attractive to women as well"
what do women like?
Could we be looking at Blizzard making "Sex in the City Online" ?
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, riddle 'em with bullets
Appeal to women? Maybe we see a blend of Stephenie Meyer books in there, roflmo. Rabbit fanwoman drolling over the ingame npc from Robert Pattinson. I don't even want to think about it.

A lot of women play wow already. Studies showed the majority of women simply don't like shooters and SF.
Apart from a fantasy setting I see things like werewolves, crime cases, alternate history, second life look alikes as a possibility.
The challenge is to combine all this into a hardcore case for the spoiled MMO kid.
According to it, there was a confirmation about being new IP since mid 2009 when an official blizzard poster on US forums talked about it, but recently even kottick said it's going to be a brand new IP. I doubt it will be something close to their current franchises.
If it was a continuation of the other IPs it wouldn't take ~2 years just for the IP to be developed.
I've read on forums that there was an inside-blizzard pre-alpha test but i don't know what to believe.

My post was purely sarcastic, i know that allot of woman play WoW. But you can't argue that the twilight series is a success, financially.

Have a baaad feeling about this lol.
I want Starcraft Universe SO bad. Why did they scrap Starcraft: Ghost? Maybe they turned it into an MMO? Isin't that a "new IP" even if it's in a set universe?
No it wouldn't be a new IP seeing the starcraft universe is an established game it is an existing IP. For it to be a new IP Bliz would not be able to use any of the titles they currently have or any other title that is currently out there. Now they can twist it a bit and word it as a new IP for them. Current case in point SOE and DCUO they can say its a new IP for SOE even though there have been numerous DC games out before it. Now if Blizz wanted to be very shallow they could use an IP that was solely Blizzards before the merger with Activision and state it is a new IP for Blizzard/Activision but alas I hope not and that what ever they are creating will be worth while and fun.
title pretty much says it all. i heard about it a while back but haven't heard anything since. if any of you have some info on the game i'd be very happy if you could share it with me.
thanks
P.S. i'm not a blizzard fanboy, i'm just curious.
I'm going to play the black cloud raining on the parade for a moment, though in a rather serious way, so please forgive me. Does Blizzard really deserve more hype to be generated after looking at the way they have ran their business and treated their customers in the past few years? This may seem an inappropriate response but I don't think it is. This response isn't designed to incite any sort of trolling, flamming or to hijack the topic, it's simply to add a point to ponder for those actively interested in future Blizzard titles.
I can't think of a gaming company that went as far as Blizzard did with RealID and their policies on how they utilise customer information to demonstrate that all they really care about is their bottom line. Granted, the bottom line really is what motivates most any company but we as people need to respect that: (1) ethics and business ethics are not separate things, individuals are the ones making policies and not some feelingless company and (2) when we see naked greed we need to turn away from it because we are don't nothing more than silently assenting to it if we do not. Blizzard did not say that it will not implement RealID in the very dangerous way it was going to before people (including former players and people who don't play the game at all) rose a cry over it. This coupled with the security issues posed by add-ons and things attached to the add-ons they let run, even though it is against their EULA (note: check the EULA and the add-ons policy to see that add-ons do change gameplay, even superficially, and this is techinically against their EULA), which others have ran through the conspiracy theory mill. Hell, Starcraft 2 is shipping in installments!
There are a wealth of posts about Blizzard's conduct and that is the kind of company that honestly doesn't deserve hype generated. My point isn't that Blizzard makes bad games because, truthfully, they do not and World of Warcraft especially is a damn fine game when you get past the bugs that Blizzard can afford to quash. Blizzard makes incredible games but the character of their policies and their actions should give people serious pause before investing their time in any current games, let alone speculate over new ones. That is what my response is about, the conduct and character of the people that set up and enforce (or don't enforce, as it sometimes is) Blizzard's policies. As it stands....well, like I said before: I can't think of a gaming company who treats their customers worse.
There you have it, just a little more food for thought.
(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain. (2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
I heard somewhere that it'll focus on "social aspects" of gaming. Am expecting something more in the lines of the upcoming ArcheAge where people can build houses, plant trees, and gardens and stuff. Along with some adventuring elements, very litle grind, social advancement paths.... expecting huge character customization, clothing... achievements and facebook/farmeville features (or perhaps even facebook in-game integration).

There is a wiki about this next gen mmo.

I predict a team based mmofps and i'll be back later to claim my prize.

Here's an interesting read from the man behind the new MMO. (Dec 2009).
4 pages of holy script: expect the same principles within the new IP.

I would say a company with a game that has 11.5 million accounts in a genre where games die left and right deserves any hype it wants.
I'd like an MMO where i can progress without killing. I'm so fed up with all the killilng FFS
As for instance, helping people and animals.
I don't mean no combat classes, just ALSO some non combat careers.
I hope this is what they mean by "appealing to women"!
Although I know many girls like the combat, but I wonder if it's the majority.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)

I am definitely there if it has houses and planting trees
No, because people have been talking about this for years, where is this MMO? I don't think it really exsists.
