    That was quick.

Thing is, u can't possibly release a game without anti-cheat measures ready up. It's been 2 months now after launch and they still can't fire PB up.

When u see so many aimboters / exploiters and the like in the game, it's just disgusting.

This and the piss-poor matchmaking that's based on their failed threat level totally killed the game (yeah let's base MM on the win/loss ratio of people and not on their rank + guns, that's so logical, when i rolled my forcer i was lvl 36 with basic weapons and ended up against lvl 250 crim with 3 slotted guns and 3 slotted character and wasn't able to call backup, wtg RTW and that didn't happen just once, oh no, that was the usual drill).

Not to mention the constant failing at weapons balance, it changed like 30 times since beta (last October) and they still can't fix it out.

Now patch 1.41 on the public test world seems to make things better, but hell when they'll release that on live servers there'll be nobody left.

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

APB IMHO wasnt an MMO at all.. just a shooter inspired by MMO's. Its a cross between Guild Wars, and Battlefield Heroes. =P and I loved it.

If you notice... to my knowledge.. massively multi-player online game is only mentioned twice on their site.. and its in the EULA and Privacy Policy page. and (again IMHO) that was a mistake.

Great game, but with lots of hacks, no in game GMs, stupid bugs.. and the fact that it seems to have been marketed as a true MMO.. was it's down fall.

That's very true. The only pure PvP MMO that requires a subscription right now is EVE basically, and even that contains some PvE content. Global Agenda switched to F2P, and all the best shooters online are F2P, think CoD, Halo, you name it.

So many things went wrong with APB. The dev gaves us the best custimisation tools you can imagine but gameplay that lacked so much...No hitboxes, bad optimisation, cheaters and hackers, a very sterile city, limited interactivity with the environment, very limited animations...no climbing over low obstacles? really? The first time I thought the game had problems was when I tried to shoot out the tires of a car I was chasing...Couldnt do it, I thought it was becouse i was going fast and my aim was shit, but nope it turned out cars are simply one mass. No hitboxes was simply insane in this day and age. The world while looking nice is so uninteractive...all the tiny missions are frustrating becouse they should have been something more than click a window and youre done...there you go its arson. I was hoping for heists and stuff what I got was very underwhelming.

One of the biggest mistake the devs made was to call this an mmo and set up a sub fee. I have nothing against paying a fee for a game, but this simply was not worth it becouse the mmo stuff was actually free...and more enjoyable than the p2p shooting portion.  The game I fell was also badly advertised. Many went into it thinking it would be an open pvp environment where potentially 50v50 battles could take place. I was one of those people, maybe its my fault for not reading enough about the game, but either way the tiny battles and the potential the game had left me pretty sad since I had been looking forward to this game thinking that it will be could becouse the Dev is good.

  • I got a buddy key from a friend because I wanted to try out the novel matchmaking, you don't know what may be coming sort of thing.

The buddy key was super short and my machine kept freezing in the first part of the tutorial.  So I was like "Oh well".

My friend also says there is a lot of hacking (he is well infomred about such things not a sour grapes sort of thing).

So I guess I am not that surprised.  I hope other games take a hint and realize completely predictable matchmaking with premade set maps may be more "fair" but its not as addictively fun.

What’s this rubbish about it making sense to release MMO’s with rubbish graphics so everyone can play them? Does the genre want us all to go back to wire frame? You have an options setup, graphics options – use it! In two years time your graphics will start to look dated even if you release with the best you can, don’t launch a game with graphics that look dated at launch for heavens sake.

If APB goes down the shute it just reinforces the concept that the only MMO worth making is a WoW clone. Investors only have a limited understanding of gaming let alone MMO’s. They see success or fail and nothing else, that’s the real sad part of this, the impact it will have to future MMO stylie games that won’t now get made.

It will reinforce the notion that you cant release a one trick pony. Excellent customisation is no excuse for lackluster gameplay elements. A person can defend the game all they wont but it remains a fact that driving is bad, shooting is simplistic, the missions only work to expose the non interactive nature of the world the devs have created. If as much attention was given to all the other elements of the game APB would be a godsend for mmo and non mmo gamers. As its stands the devs have gotten more wrong than right.

If you want to support a game thats unlike others so its style does not disapear why not subscribe to Fallen Earth or something that goes beyond the WoW inspired themepark.

Well it just goes to show you put out a pos game folks will not play it.  I hope other folks making mmo takes head. I think were at the point now to where folks are becoming very picky about whats put out and will not play crap any more.

    Becoming picky?

have you seen the RTS shop. and the method to re-subscribe? have you seen the Matchmaking?

People Know what a crap game is when they see and play one

    Good news everyone!

Now we have ANOTHER game for future gaming companies to look at and say "Okay gentlemen/ladies.. do NOT do this with our game."

Too much boring PvP and not enough PvE.

Get more story and things for people to do, and stop counting on some idea that people will be your "content" and be content just killing each other over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

    ..and over.

It's not the PvP that's the problem, either you didn't read, or you're just really stupid.

I stated 2 months before APB came out, without even playing the beta, and made a thread about the game going to fail. The main reason why?

The same reason why Global Agenda (what it was launched with at least) failed.

MMORPG players are carebears. Every single one of them, this includes PvP players. When I was going hardcore into MMORPGs, including FFXI, WoW, EQ2, etc. etc. I avoided any true PvP games. Counter-Strike, StarCraft, Street Fighter, etc. Why? I liked RNG. I liked my bullshit 25% chance to crit for over 9000. You know what FPS, RTS, and fighter players like? Skill. They like winning via skill. They like being able to go back to a replay and say "wow, that's where I screwed up." You know what MMORPG players do?

    TERRAN IS OP

    FIREBALLS ARE OP

WTF M4A1 IS SO OP, SO IS THE AWP

They never blame themselves, they blame the game. So what happens? They feel okay blaming the RNG.

So out comes APB, and does something to mash the two genres together....do I really need to explain why it failed? LOL

I live to go faster...or die trying.

While there are a number of players who are actually good at games ie. reflexes/totally understanding game mechanics and know how to use them to their advantage putting them at a cut above the rest, the reality is, majority of players are pretty bad. Now here's the main issue, they dont know they are bad and/or will never admit it, thus, YES, they will blame EVERYTHING else before blaming themselves, in fact, some will never get there and continue to live in eternal self-denial, because to most gamers, having your own gaming ego hurt can be WORSE than dying itself.

Actually GA has more active people playing now than ever. Increasing population is hardly a case of failure.

Dam shame APB isnt panning out. I loved the idea of cops and robbers. Wanted to enter the game and stop hoodlums or cause havoc in the 'burbs.
In the game I saw a crime ran up to the perp and could do nothing. lol tried a mission and was gang banged - 2 on 1 with no back up.

Open up the game for petes sake. Instead of cops and robbers I was playing a weak red vs blue shooter. I hope someone takes a chance and snatches up their work. Lots of fun potential, but the value just isnt there yet.

I think you need to reread what I wrote.

I know what GA did to their game, and I know they caved in and kinda screwed up their original design. Now it's like...TF2 meets WoW.

Initially, however, GA failed and flopped damn hard.

In my opinion the reason APB, a game I was waiting to launch till I was in beta near the end, failed for three main reasons.

    1) Not listening to community on what they wanted.

    2) Would of had a better feel as a full FPS.

    3) More feel of affecting the world, having contestable buildings (tagged buildings) was fun, but noone ever contested it, there was no reward for holding it. Major missions didn't affect looks of the area, you were mearly a generic person in realtime's world.

  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,429

I think people and the OP are missing the point, it may not get launched because it ran out of money, not because of some design mistake. If it had launched then failed to get players you could point to the gameplay design.

The problem is this will be seen as investors as a how not to do it. Those investors do not look as deeply as we are in this thread. Lack of PvE content etc will go over their heads. They will see ‘not like WoW’ and that is as far as their understanding will go. Rolling out more WoW clones will be their conclusion.

As a gamer im sad to see this game in trouble, I'm an avid MMO gamer but I didnt pick up APB, Bill is spot on when he says this game didnt know what exacly it was.

Still, one games loss is anothers sub.

    my 2 cents

Biggest mistake that Dev did was making assumption  that pvp mmorpg players expect :

1: MMO-like in MULTI-PLAYER- i used to rotfl when ppl asked dev of other games about solo play. In the end in apb you had like hundreds of player playing solo and complaining about Matchmaking. Give them free game chat so they can communicate ? fail

2:RPG- with so many options to customize your car character etc. With some clans running with full based on real police force skins, with ppl reading rights during arrest in beta, with most wanted etc. We end up wit 90% criminals complaining about crucial arrest mechanic and 70% cops abusing stun then kill cheesy. No one wants to role play any more.

3:PVP:When mmorpg player says that he wants PVP it means that he expect to show of his 2000 hours of grid against noobs. THats it. Anything with challenge and skill wont work . Look at AoC

position and combo mechanic and skill base game play - no sell, they are doing better now with gear based game-play. Warhammer? game sukz but supposed to far better with it PVP offering .

The idea that yo will get you ass kicked by more experienced player , that you need train to get better etc its not very popular on market. I WONT FRAGZ NOW.

4:PVE:players prefer to fight real humans then kill mindless mobs and do fedex mission . No sorry i have seen ppl grinding un opposed mission in apb. I hear about lack of content? in pvp game players are content, and variety dynamically generated objective to engage them.

    APB problems

1:Hybrid mode- you get advantage with higher level and better gear instead of more tactical options (like in MAG or bc2)

2:Subscription - too many ppl did not get that , they should go with hybrid , Full content for subscribers, unlimited trial locked on some level for rest.

3:Lack of optimalisation of code ,terrible performence .

4:aimbots-They should publish that game on consoles (i dont play PVP like BC2 on pc any more and pad is pain ill tell you )

    cheers

Ohh no... This game looks so interresting. I wanted to play but when I saw the 50$ price I said somthing like this: "WTF?? Kthxbai...". For 10-15$/mont I'll play, if I not need to buy it for 50$. It simply too costly.

  • SuniojSunioj Member Posts: 261

I do feel bad for those who purchased the game.  You have to think that in the longrun what would this title really have to offer that you couldn't in a slue of other games to one degree or another.  Developers are still coming up with games that they think will make money and when people buy them, they are supporting those bad ideas.  Realtime Worlds came up with a total gem of a game with Crackdown.  They have lost total face with APB, which explains why so many staff members were let go.  Yet another EA sham job :-(

    Momo sucks, I have proof.
