Glad to see GW2 received an award this time around. I can't help but shake my head after 2 years in a row SWTOR is showing the same things on their DEMO. In the interview with Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk the best information they could release is "We will reveal at a later time"
Its been my thought that TOR would release before GW2, but with the way they are pushing back these reveals I can't help but think we just won't be seeing TOR until the summer of next year.
Well, i wonder if these rewards really reward innovative things, or just reward cool graphics?
Best of show : GT 5.......... thats a racing game nothing innovative there.
So Myabe they rate demo quallity?
I'd love to see a report that tells me what exactly a Jury thinks is so great about these games instead of just the announcement of a winner, that would tell us a hella lot more.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I may not know much about GT5 but it IS possible to have an innovative racing game. They may look the same gamplay wise but their can be some vast differences between racing games. I'm not saying they should have one but I'm sure there are at least some reasons why it did outside of graphics.... I hope....
TBF you'll probably never know why the jury made it's choice it's actually a pretty stupid move if you think it as opens up a whole can of critisms based in the jury's opinion and attempts to degrade their opinion and other problems, it's a PR nightmare. Why do you think they don't give reasons for the Oscars or other main awards.

Of course demo quality is important, that is more or less the only thing they have to go on.
But I also think it is a bit weird that GT5 won, I mean is the difference really so big between it and the 4 earlier games?
Still, gratz to all the winners.
A smug part of me is happy that TOR didn't won, they havn't showed us much new in a long time.
But the only thing this really prove us is that GW2 isn't total trash or vapor ware, this is just a pre beta demo after all. There are still many parts of the game we know very little about, like PvP and crafting. To me it still sounds like the most interesting game right now even if I still wait for CCP to present world of darkness online.
It's been a long time coming...I knew GW2 would have a chance. SWToR won in E3 so everyone thought SWToR is best now woooo.HA. Yeah GW2 wasn't at E3...Then the hype wasn't so extreme. Because very fiew people outside GW1 fanbase knew anything about what GW2 had to offer to the MMO template. Then the info is flowed through and Manifesto vid released, Then the hype becomes enormous....I knew this would happen sooner or later..It's been a long time coming.

I think its a mix of the entire showing at gamescom. TOR was at gamescom last year too, the only thing new they had to show this year was the space flight trailer, and the Hope cinematic that everyone has seen already. Last year at gamescom, they didn't win either. I believe AION won .... TOR has been releasing bits of content piece by piece for years now, but much of what they've spoken about hasn't been even remotely playable at these conferences, just the same stuff, which is nice to see the updates on the animations and graphics, but if WE don't get to play it, at least let us SEE something different.
GW2 had a very good showing, they had some very diverse areas that they were able to show us gameplay in, and they showed the new combat animations, which played the same as GW1 but were much flashier. They've only been releasing major information for the past few months so there is a newness factor to it that TOR isn't going to get back until they release some new gameplay and information. Overall I'd say it was a number of these things that gave way to the win.
In that same avenue GT5 is one of the most anticipated racing titles ever, it looks amazing, and though it most likely won't play much different then the other GT games, I'd still buy it just for the tuning and customization options. Those games are always fun.
LOL you saying that GW2 will fail just because Aion and Warhammer won the same award ? Look, this ArenaNet not some half-assed developer who has no clue as to what they are doing. I can understand some people's concerns but I been a GW player for years now and ArenaNet is top notch. No way they going to dish out a bad mmo. It is just simply not going to happen.

I wasn't really a big fan of gw1 but from what I seen this week at gamescon I think it is safe to say that this game, GW2 , may just be what this mmo industry needs.

I think he saying that the award in itself is worthless. I will say that I think ArenaNet has put a lot more effort into their presentation at Gamescom than any of the other PC games out there. I imagine that same effort will be at Pax as well. Each company has their particular conventions that they like and will put most of their effort towards. For SWTOR I think it was E3, for blizzard it will obviously be Blizzcon. All of the other conventions they just put in a token booth, maybe a few interviews but that is it.

I'd have to agree with this, TOR did release Hope and a ton of information at E3, lots of interesting coverage, and allowed for more demo classes if I remember correctly. They totally nixed jedi at gamescom and I'm not sure if the inquisitor was playable either, which most people would consider the pinnacle of the star wars experience.
Anyway, I don't feel that rewards set any games future in stone, at least not until after release. AOC, WAR, AION, they've all won plenty of awards before their releases, but that doesn't mean their future was assuredly successful.
What is this reward for? The game isn't even in Beta yet. So were they really judging the game? Or is this just a reward for best hype?
They put a Dragon 3 times the size of Ragnaros 100 yards from Newbie Spawn Point. Yes, I think they need the hype to sell their 10 million Box Copies.
if you try to stress things first get your facts straight. THE dragon was in THE lvl 47 area, THE elemental was in THE human newbee area's NeXT to that, this was only à. Small and minor dragon compared to THE ancient ones
(keeps me sondering why everytime i type THE on my iPad it changes THE word intoo capitols, must be THE dutch version that can,t stand my English)

Ah, forgive me, I tend to call every boss "Dragon". Old habit....
Small you say? Hmm, I wonder if it will be even possible to see the toe nails of the large ones.
I'm happy Anet won Best Online Game. Congrats to them. BTW yes The Shatterer is more of a Lieutenant of Kralk (I have no idea how to spell his full name). Think of him as The Great Destroyer, but for a different dragon. I think The Shatterer alone puts deathwing to shame. And The Shatterer doesn't even compare to the ancient dragons.

So wait one second here. The game doesn't actually start you off with fighting all those epic bosses?
No matter this game is still going to bury all of its competitors, its just gonna be that freakin HUGE!!!

I wouldn't go that far without actually playing the game. Being fanatical one way or the other at this point just doesn't make sense.
So... is he honestly complaining that the game is too epic?
That's a first for me. I also didn't realize that putting impressive content into a game was concidered a 'marketting strategy'. I thought it was just part of making a good game.

It's just like Obama winning the Peace Prize for what he "could" do. Don't get me wrong I hope it does well, just wasn't wow'd with all the videos I saw. Although the dragon encounter was impressive.

Good job, A-Net really did come out in full force in gamescome so it was likely deserved.

Most innovative demo gamplay, granted this was gw2's first showing.

2008 winner = Warhammer Online
2009 winner = Aion
2010 winner = Guild Wars 2
