Sell me SW:TOR

I admit that I haven't read much on SW:TOR.  I figured the place that I can get a good sense of the game is to just ask :P.  So can all you SW:TOR fanbois out there give me a quick overview of what's good about SW:TOR?  Kind of like the kind of introduction you'll find on the game's box?

I only want to hear about positive things.  If you're going to relate to other games, that's fine, but please only positive comments about them.

Story. Its supposedly going to be like the equivalent of 1 KOTOR per class. So if you like making alts thats like 600+hours to play through.

Quit being lazy. . . go to their website and do some research, either way you have to read information, might as well be from a more credible source.

  • Stop! I repeat STOP! Making these pointless threads.  There is a whole section on this website all about the game.  There's screenshots and videos right here on the website.

If you need someone to talk you into playing a game you obviously don't know what your looking for.

/thread  I'm tired of seeing these everywhere.  Creating a thread like this shows your incompetence as a sentient being.

Hey now, he just wants to share the hype everyone else has.... :D

Anyways, I'm pretty much looking foward to the story and it's voice acting. Combat is very quick and is actually choreographed. It's a bit hard to compare it to other games at this stage, being fresh and all. Someone else should come by soon to give you their hype. :)

There's a few things that I've heard that make me excited about the game.

First its Bioware, much like Blizzard what they touch is gold plated awesome.  Mass Effect 2 is tied up there with my favorite game of all time Fallout 2, plain and simple I love the company and I'm excited they're making an MMO.

Second, I really enjoyed WoW, but I enjoyed WoW best when it was spiffy and new.  Leveling up my first forsaken warrior was one of the best times I had in WoW.  Why do i bring this up?  Because people are all saying SWTOR is basically WoW with a star wars spin and lolstory.  Ok, well, I really liked WoW, its just a bit tired, give me a WoW like experience with a new venue and I'm pretty damn excited once again.

Heh third, and this was already mentioned, an epic story arc individual to the class you pick?  That sounds pretty nice to me.  Throw in memorable companions like any of the recent Bioware games has, which they'll be doing, and its... Sold.  With companions and a story for each class, who needs raiding, by the time I finish all that casually I doubt I'll even really care about end game.

Besides, jedi still give me nerd chills.

Yah, let me tell you a story.

A grass hopper and an ant were preparing for winter.

The grass hopper screwed around all summer posting on a forum, asking others, what kind of food should I store?

The ant spent his first couple of days of summer looking up what other ants had to say about storing food.

The grass hopper still has no clue how or what food to store, so when winter came he jumped off a bridge and died.

The ant started collecting and storing food and when winter came around he was happily spending his winter playing mmorpg's

    The End

And then, on Christmas Day, someone came and stepped on him so they were both dead.

The moral of the story: SWTOR is an SRPG with some online features, it's designed for a much younger, more casual crowd than most MMOs, even WoW, and is therefore a great deal more simplistic and more instant-gratification oriented.

If you still think this, you've obviously been living under a rock concerning this game.

Yeah, Besides the fact that you can group, do quest together,  find other players in an open world, raid, PvP.

If you think WoW is casual then you have not played many MMOs. Games in general are easy.

I don't get how getting your mount in WoW is any more casual then simply not playing EvE and getting your skills up. Using my logic EvE is more simplistic and instant gratification orianted then WoW.

Trust me WoW is not MMO lite. I found EQ2 to be more simplistic.

Okay lets see what kind of sales person i am:

Will start off with the big ones (as you ask for a box like post)

Star Wars the Old Republic (A Bioware Game)

An epic story line that is different for each class that you play, which can be made further unique by the choice you make that change the story in a completely new way.

8 Iconic classes from the Star Wars series, which later break down into 16 advance classes.

    Stylized graphics

NPC with lifelike AI that will make every encounter interesting and unique.

    Fully voiced audio.

Now onto the what people think which is usually further down or on the inside flap of the box.

"If you liked or played any of the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games and wanted to share that game online with others, this is your chance"

"I was really looking forward to a new MMO that based itself around the RPG aspect of the game instead of just having it as an after thought and thats where this game really pulled through"

Okay, *takes a deep breath* thats my best attempt off hand.  Keep in mind i tried to make this sound like what it would be on the box, so i used some special terms like stylized.

Disclaimer: Cause i know how some are on this forum. Please don't try and tear this apart by quoting it and saying how i'm wrong.  This is how the box in my opinion would state the features if it came out now.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

There's an exception to every rule, as an example. I also have a brother who is 12 ( I'm over 30), who cares nothing about any story in any game. All he plays are online death matches, or games where he can build things like Roblocks or what ever it's called. I actually tried getting him to play both KOTOR games, he didn't like them, he loves the Clone Wars cartoon though.

I'm not saying there are kids who don't like stories, but the nature of story-telling is geared for the later teens and adult ranges, at least complex story-telling.

Kids books are something else entirely, they're meant as a tool more so than telling stories. Things were different long ago, TV and video games changed that.

Anyway we're getting a little off-topic don't ya think :)? But I think that was the intention agaga had to begin with.

I regret making this post.  Now that I've seen what the SW:TOR community is like, I will NOT play this game.  It's not about the game man, it's about the people.  That is especially true for a social game like MMO.

I can't. It hasn't been released. It will steal some subs from WoW though.

Looks like your post was a clearly hidden troll, and you where waiting to attack the people actually still thinking favorly about the game.   There is no way you can gain any sense of the community through these forums.  Maybe a very vague understanding of the constant trolls that inhabit this website, but not the community that will play this game.

  • lightbladelightblade Member Posts: 219

The reason I made this post is because the official web site does not highlight the features that are unique to SW:TOR.  Why would I play SW:TOR? I'm not a Star Wars fan.  Does SW:TOR cater to Star Wars fans only? That's mighty short sighted of them right?

I've been anticipating GW2 for a long time.  I've only recently heard about SW:TOR. I can list out a few features that others do not have, like how they transform concept arts into "animated" concept art for visual presentation.  That is something that's never done by any other MMO (or any other games).  Since this is not the GW2 forum, I'll stop here.  Maybe you people can tell me a little more about SW:TOR.

You sir, are wrong. I'm here to look for a quick highlight of the unique (or best) feature of this game.  And the best place to find these is from the people who love this game the most.  They can explain why love this game and which feature that really excites them.  Because THAT is what makes it the best feature.

If nobody can do this, I can only assume this game sucks.  Anyone that plays it only play it because it's Star Wars and they are a Star Wars fan.

But in summary it is the Star Wars IP and Bioware are developing the game , that pretty much should sign the deal.

Agaga , you should have signed this comment as clueless.

This will be as much of an MMO as EQ, EQII , AC, WoW and we can go on and oon it has all the features and Will have more content than all of the AAA MMORPGs out at the moment on a per MMO comparrison.

SRPG my arse some people just post for the reaction on these forumns and post rubbish at that the evidence is all there. Just because people can play solo doesnt mean all the other elements become redundant. Some people are just uneducateable and not worth the effort.

Bioware doesn't mean anything to me.  It's the actual product they make.  Sure, Bioware made a few good or even great games.  But that does not automatically make every game they make live up to the same quality.

Finally, someone who actually is rational. The Star Wars ip hasn't only been succesfull, the prequels and many games were garbage (force unleashed). Bioware makes pretty good RPGs, but they have not made an MMO before so it isn't totally impossible that something goes wrong. I'm not saying it will, I am reserved about this, however the fans use it as an argument for the game's succes.

The gameplay vids have not convinced me, so that is where I will base my opinion on. I will not blindly hate the game, I'll keep following it and see if my opinion will change.

The infornmation you seek, is not viable yet.  You want info on unique features, no one has played the game yet.  You can only find forum related info about what has ben leaked or relesed.  Being that no one has played it, how can you expect this kind of info?  Sure anyone can give you a unique feature of what has been anounced, but who knows how they will actually feel "unique."

So a game sucks because its not unique?  Your qualifications, while they are yours, are trite, but common to this website.

You would be best to check the offical website and forums, as another poster suggested.  Other then this I do not expect you find the answers your seeking as they may not exsist.

I find this to be both interesting and amusing because I seem to hear this a lot from skeptics and yet everyone seems to think everything Blizzard makes games of pure gold. But Bioware is coming into the MMO genre no different. This is their first MMORPG and they both have made some exceptional games in the past. One big difference though is that Bioware has been making more new games with new designs and Blizzard has been rehashing making sequels. Not saying anything about you personally, just a general observation.
