i'm so confused with this game, is it an open world?
or is it instanced zones? like gw1
Game looks awesome. May actually be the best MMO comming.
I kinda thought about that too. I hope the Dynamic Events are not just a fancy name for Instances.
They said it will be a persistent world but instances will still exist, So think more like wow in terms of world design.
Guild Wars 2 is mostly an open persistent world
Here's a breakdown:
Personalized Stories = Permanent Impact Environment= Instanced (You and friends can enter). Dungeons also.
Dynamic Events = Long Term impact Environment= Open and Persistent (Everyone else)
Combat = Short term Impact on Environment
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
Wow I cant believe people are still confused after all this time if this is instanced or not, all you need to do is go the GW2 offical site and read a little.
this world is NOT instanced , there will be some instancing for certain situations.
It is not anything like GW1
Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO?
Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world

Combat can be both Long and Short. depends on what you do.
I like GW less and less the more I hear about it...World PvP is actually battleground scenarios, structured PvP is arena style like GW1.
No healers, long cooldown skills (720seconds), statboosting consumables and Diablo 2 style potion popping because of no healers...
The game itself looks incredible, I love the animations, styling and graphics, but those things I listed above pretty much make me not interested.
I'm only quoting what the dev said in one of the demo videos.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
.... i dunno which to start with....
Healers..... sucked never could find one and the ones you could were assholes.
potion poping will not happen because they only heal mana and not health.
dont know whatyou were expecting from pvp tho
Potions are used only for mana and they have a cool down. They are not spammables. And what skill has a long cooldown of 720 seconds?
I think having no healers are a great thing. I never really enjoyed having the healer around in the old Guild Wars 1, but you needed one to get around.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
IDK if they will even have potions. Havent heard anything about those yet.
I did buy and enjoy GW1 for a short period, so I didn't really focus on what GW2 was bringing to the table.
But now the more I see the more intrested I am getting, while I aint really into fantasy MMO's anymore it still seems to look allot intresting then ....well about any fantasy MMO released the last couple of years, this includes allot intresting then WoW, which I played off and on till BC and never been back to since.
Oh well Calindor, every MMO cant please everyone, for myself I am happy in some ways they are trying some different things, mostly with the no healer aspect.
Is GW 2 my perfect MMO, no problably not, but does it look like I will have a lot of F********** fun playing it, hell ya, even tho some of the PvP out there is Areana style or whatever I am sure there will be some good open world PvP , and if there isnt, I dont really care, cause to be honest PvP isnt that important to me. But in this case I can swing both way :-p lawls.
My main concern is that the combat is actually fun and exciting for once.
Edit: a little not on the no dedicated healer, IMO I think this will make combat more exciting, it wil lbring another dimention to it, where in past MMO's all you did was spam your fireball or w/e , it got very boring very quick, I thinking have to worry about DPS'ing, Healing, Crowd Control, mitigating damage to yourself and others all at once will make this a lot more fun.
Just a poll to see if you guys liked the videos and gameplay.
According to the President and Founder of Arenanet, Mike O'Brien, they are throwing away the old system of Guild Wars 1.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
There's no traditional world pvp, but there aren't WoW style battlegrounds either. There's guild versus guild instanced battles, arena stuff like GW1, and there's world versus world - which is not at all like what you are thinking, I'm sure.
No healers could be considered an improvement if you consider it. Cooldowns vary by the skill. What game doesn't have stat boosting consumables and why do you see that as being bad? I don't know where you heard there would be D2 like potion popping but that's incorrect as well.
Thats a good thing because that will mean all new/better garaphics and new programs that they can use and try out with the new system.
Stat boosting consumables. I have never heard of it in GW2. Can you verify this with a source?
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
I don't know why this is even an issue, but in a couple of the GC 2010 demos, they mentioned if you saved a farm, you could buy their crops, eat them, and gain stat buffs.
Yeah every little thing you do in GW2, affects your whole story. Thats something new in an MMORPG and i like it. I dont think any other MMORPG has something like this.
Another thing that i like is that in GW1, you couldn't move while casting. Also couldnt dodge projectiles. And now, you can do both of those! Also the beginning of the game (tutorial) wont be as boring as a lot of the other MMORPG's out there. Excited for that.
Thanks for posting btw, OP. I've already watched 2 other very similar GW2 presentations from GC 2010, but I still ended up watching this one too in it's entirety lol.
The game looks great and I will be playing for sure but I am one who goes by what I see and now what a dev says. So far I am yet to see a video showing an open world enviroment where alot of people are running around doing there own thing. I clearly remember the devs of Global Agenda saying before it released that it was a persistent world and its not.
