I hope this post finds everyone well and enjoying their respective game(s).
For the past month or so I have been researching DFO to determine whether I should give it a try, and I must say that I have come away quite impressed. I was particularly heartened by the recent posts of mmorpg.com users Lustmord and Marzineck (sp?), who are casual gamers and seem to really enjoy the game. I have also watched the youtube video review posted by MMOhut.com and several different tutorial videos recommended by posters in this forum, and the gameplay looks fun and challenging and the graphics far exceeded my expectations.
So I know what many of you guys will say: "Try the free trial! You have nothing to lose!" And you would be correct....BUT...I would like to start my free trial once the new PvE expansion/patch is released. I looked around the offical Darkfall forums but I could not find a firm date for the release of this expansion/patch. Would anyone here be so kind as to tell me when it is expected to drop, presuming no official date has been set?
Best Regards,
Lctwo
I'm sorry, but this game is no where near 'Casual Friendly'...
True
You are aware that the skills do not have any limit on them?
False, but you can learn all skills and spells in game(Making the game being bad and really imbalanced)
You are aware that macroing is actually a legit way of playing?
False(From the devs and GM's) But all players of DF are doing it.
You are aware that in clan wars, the ones who have spent the most time in game will conquer you in a matter of minutes?
Dont know how to respond to that.
You are aware that this is the most newbie unfriendly game on the market (there are clans of veterans dedicated to put a stick up your ass as soon as you start... good to get started now then after)?
True
You are aware that this game uses a FPS mechanic that is sadly broken and has been proven to fail because of this game's latency issues?
False simply because in my opinion, its innovative and fun the way they made it. You just have to get use to it
You are aware that there is literally no actual PvE, unless you consider fighting the same goblins for god knows how long?
False. 1st of all, mobs are more inteligent then most mmorpg you played. Other then that, it follows the same format as other game. Take a quest, go kill 10 of this, go back to the quest giver. Also, you talk about how DF was 1 year ago. You should either try the Trial or wait for the expansion like me to see.
You are aware role playing is nonexistent in a game where 12 year olds are yelling insults at each other 24/7?
RPing is none existance, but i really dont get your opinion. Chat UI sux, no bubble chat, no third person view while unarmed, lack of RP Emotes. Instead, you have playing Guitar emote.
You are aware that the engine opimizations are non-existent? Your video card maybe easily not supported or just run terribly in game, especially passing over land chunks.
Buy a new computer???
You are aware the graphics are sub-par for the requirements?
You are Aware that there is 0 instance, you can do a battle of 100 vs 100 without lagging? Are you aware of the Age of conan Super great graphics and million of instance and only 50 vs 50 can be done without lag? Think about it.
Do yourself a favor and just pick up World Of Warcraft or at least wait until the new expansion comes out for it. There's plenty of better games for PvP such as EVE, Guild Wars, used to be DAoC, or even in some cases WoW.
Now, you lost me here. We hate wow. This game had been dumbed down for the kids only. Its so easy and the only place to pvp is in BG's. Guild Wars, dont make me laugh. Their pvp system is the Most E-sport of any mmorpg in existance(Its not even an mmorpg, but a CoRPG) EVE, not my style. I dont want to live in a ship in space. DAoC is dead.
That's bs, most players macro their way up through AFK swimming, macro AFK Spell Casting, macro Sword&Parry, etc. And a skills do take a long time to increase.
If you don't macro, you're in for an even worse grind.
Source: Your ass
Isn't that the same for your "There is no need to macro"?
And the source comes from having played DarkFall since launch and can be confirmed through a quick look around the forum. Just leave....
There is no need to macro.
If you don't enjoy the AI in this game, odds are you are looking at things as a grind. I personally did not macro/AFK anything at any point and I had no issues getting competitive in a couple months of casual play. If I hadn't enjoyed this process I can imagine it would have been a challenge convincing myself just to log in, let alone hit some mobs for an hour or two.
If you don't enjoy the "journey" in Darkfall and just want to be on a level playing field in your first week or whatever, then it's very difficult to appreciate this game for what it is.
There isnt a NEED to macro, and despite i afk swam, for under 8 hours while i slept, for 2 night *GASP* it amounted to nothing. I have never macroed, hacked, or purchased gold, i prefer to play my game.
However, you soon realize how quickly skills progress, and the realize how much is really involved. THis is a heavy grind pve game, make no mistake about that, despite endgame PVP and constant ganking (if you near the noob areas at least)
I dont mind the skill grind, because i levels as i play, i do however, strongly dislkie the harvesting system. It requires you to click to start harvesting, then watch as it continually harvests untill your stamina is done, the node is empty, or your tool breaks. So, if your in a safe place, you can AFK (is that illegal during harvesting?) for 7-15min, return, lather rinse repeat. This has the excitement level of x-treme knitting or low-impact gardening. This is where macroers have the advantage. When im playing i dont want to sit and do nothing but watch my stamina drain (i thought anything afk was illegal in game right?)
What would nip this macroing issue in the butt, would be to increase skill gained PER HIT against stronger enemies, and figure out a way to do the same with harvesting, but not just with skill but also amount of resource gained.
The journey is fun, however, doing the same journey, for months at a time (more if your employed as i am) loses it luster. This is why you see people macro skilling eachother in cities so much, and see hordes of macro resourcers within tower range. It wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt rubbed in your face so often that you are weak, being one of the most PRO stong charcter ganking weaker character games ive seen.

This is certainly a legitimate complaint. The harvesting is a killer. If I did not have a 2nd account for harvesting I would go insane.
This is one huge thing AV could address which would keep more people in the game.
As far as macroing, I view it as viable way of skilling up but it also is bad in multiple ways:
money sink
people can raid your city and kill you
like everything in DF. You're always risking something by macroing. Depends if the risk vs. the reward is greater.
and this is why I think i should be legal.
increased risk, more targets for pvp.
