EQ2X is in the honeymoon period.  Lots of new players at low levels all bunched up in the same area.  Eventually players will level up and I suspect things will end up just like the live servers, top heavy population.

At which point the only thing left for SOE to do is to pay people to play. ;0)

But all MMOs except the worst grinders like L2 is like that.

Do you think there will be war in the middle east when you are at it?

Sure "all" games are top heavy, but not every game turn new players off with empty gameworld up until max level.   Things like server mergers and new servers are just temporary fixes.  Unless something substantial is changed the eq2x servers will end up in the same exact situation as the live servers.  That is all I was saying.

Well I have to agree with the OP that the mage animations in EQ2 are really boring. Spells are mainly particle effects and almost no toon animation. Just some hand swirling most of the time.  The melee classes is where the cool animations are.

One of my toons is Warlock and it has one of the most boring spell effects and animations ive seen so far in EQ2. My Monk on the other hand is awesome. Ive noticed that when playing my Monk, I sometimes use an ability just for the animation lol, even if the ability is not so efficient in that situation :)

Anyway, if you like to have a class that has nice outfits and animations, dont pick a mage class lol. The oldschool robes and lack of toon animations make them look very boring. I still think they are fun to play, but then Im a sucker for AOE.

They aren't horrible as much as... I'm not sure what.

Shadowmen, rideable lava rhinos, original horse mounts, plastic hair textures ... Many things just make a person go, "huh, what the hell?" The mix of heavy realism and extreme high fantasy gets irritating at times (lorewise and graphically). The game's graphics are not technically bad, but the art direction has been quite poorly handled. Some of this is probably due to the number of changes in direction the game has taken.

Gameplay is decent, though there is way too much screen taken up by hotbars, IMO. Too many buffs, too many debuffs, too many damage abilities that do the same thing for the sake of having a button to smash.

Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

I think that is a good summary of why the graphics miss the mark for so many people.  Sure there are a lot of high polygon objects and more up to date looking graphic elements that when viewed on their own they can look really good.  Put everything together on one screen and that is where it begins to fall apart.

One of my bigger complaints is the contrast of cheap graphics next to high quality graphics.  Seeing a very detailed character model standing on ground that is a massively stretched out texture makes the game look bad and that type of thing is all over the place.  Even the armor the character is wearing will have a very detailed arm and midsection, but it is connected by some stretched ou blob that looks unnatural and out of place.  Terrains also blend into each other from any decent distance that it is hard to pick out any details in what you are looking at.  Castle walls or mountains for example look like one big massive blob when looked at from a distance.  The whole game seems to suffer from these problems.

It is strange how much of eq2 seems to be at odds with itself.

Yea please do, I have never seen a Eq2 screenshot or video that show that it has good graphics. My computer manages to play LotrO and AoC with great graphics yet Eq2 looks and runs horrible. And thats not even considering that awfull art style that Eq2 have.

Ask and you shall recieve. This is Balanced settings with some tweaks.

That fiery conurer sommun looks prettty decent but the grounds itself is awful, its not natural in its contours and chanign settings to add grass or ground does help at all (I have tied it).  The textures on that wooden bucket look nice and same for the horse but the textures for the ground are terrible.  And what hell is wrong with that big rock?  Again awful textures and just plain wierd contours.  The only saving grace is the nice shadows on it

Overall effect is some nice things superimposed on wierd disjointed crap.

The thing that jumps out at me here is the nice musculature on the mount, overall it looks very nice.  Also parts of the sky look very nice, fairly realistic and shaded well with nice clouds.  The shadows from the tree are nice too.

But OMFG what is wrong with that rock behind you!?  Its like somebody puked on a lego block and put it in your game.

And what is up with that tree.  Its like it would look nice if it was in a different game.  But instead its like someone took it and stuck into some warhammer miniture set piece.

Again a nice sky with some pretty cool sun lighting effect.  But the ground looks like crap and even from a distance the scenary rocks are just awful.

Even worse the zone boundaries are wierdly obvious and disconcernting for no real reason.  Not as bad as the first freep forest zone, egad the zone boundaries there are awful

I really like these bug models in EQ2 they look nice they have some cool animation, the meatallic effect is nice too.  But OMG did some giant take a grayish dump behind you? Is there blocky poorly tectured magazine out of frame that he was reading when he did it? I guess he mistook this wierd sand texture and eerie flatness for the water of a toilet?

Once again some nice sky effectts.  Shows off one of EQ2s stengths it has some nice water effects. The cliffside in front on you actually looks fairly decent.  Usually rocks in EQ2 are horrible

But why the hell do the people who make zone constantly make these silly islands with stangely flat seawall that immedately give way to "grass".  Its like some water park with astroturf.

And seriously what is up with that rock on the left?  The on in front of you is even worse.  These artists seriously need to study some erosion patterns.  It is so incredibly out of place and funny look and again with large columnar rocks
