This sounds related to my problem of signing up for the first time today and not being able to sign into the tester site. I am trying to download too, but can't finish it.
Yeah, i figured out today that it's a bit more complicated than most other MMOs where you just create an account to play.
Press the button, there are many things to accept, then at some point it will ask you to login. Later on it sends you an email, which has a beta key and further instructions. You log on the site and add the key and, i hope, you are done. Will see in a few hours when i return home.
"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."
Alternately, if you think you can trust third party sources, instructions on doing that here.
No need to worry, as torrent files include md5 checksums of the file contents so if someone goes altering the files, the torrent doesn't match then.
I'd feel better about this if I weren't replacing the entire file outright, as that circumvents the whole torrenting process, leaving no file to compare checksums against except for the one file you downloaded.
Fortunately, there's two other hurdles involved that should keep it relatively safe:
They'd have to figure out how the Square-Enix patcher works.
If they did slip someithng in, somebody out of the thousands that download it would likely find out and they'd be able to be backtracked.
Anyway, the official patcher worked just fine for me this morning, getting both patches done in the time it took me to write this message, so that's encouraging.

No you didn't understood. Torrent file = a small file that contains information about the actual file being downloaded. You replace the file being downloaded, not the torrent file. Torrent file is on metainfo directory (same level as the patch directory).
Try putting on the patch directory another random file from your hard disk (after you rename it accordingly) and then run the patcher.

After waiting forever to finally retrieve my beta key, I downloaded the game to my desktop. Now I have to update the game but every time I click the icon to start the updater up, It just gives me an error and crashes... why is this?
I registered my key...downloaded the installer...tried to run it and during the first black screen window it simply crashes and gives me the windows solution thingy....I am running windows vists 32 bit. Any ideas? all of the exes are set to run as admin.
Is there an actual official page for such things? If not this alone will probably decide me to not buy or play the game if I can not get tech support for such a simple basic issue.
Hmm, I have Windows 7 on an AMD 64 4-core CPU with 4gb of memory. Got a key, downloaded the first little loader, and when I execute it, it immediately dies. It is supposed to run on this machine?
It turns out that my graphics card was too old, I guess. I had an ATI X1800, which runs all the other games very well.
I upgraded to an ATI 5770 and now it does not crash immediately. I guess I'm on to the pain of downloading
A possible alternative explanation; I installed, started the downloader, it crashed. Square Enix being absolutely no help, to my knowledge, I came across this post, and downloaded updated video drivers (not really all that old), but that fixed my issue. Or at least it did not crash on start up, and seems to be trying to download something .... at 0.0 bytes/second.
The official beta patcher is no good way to download the patches sadly. Luckily it's a beta patcher so the game should come with a patcher that works. Using uTorrent or another torrenting program to grab the installer files from your own computer and download it yourself is the best way. I can post how to do that if anybody's interested.
(Official beta patcher never went above 0.0b/sec for me. I uploaded a good 6 gigs, though...)
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

Well, now it is downloading at a "more reasonable" 40kb/s through 50ish connections. I'll give it a day or so for now, otherwise probably try one of the other options; I think I saw some other posts/pointer somewhere about this, so should be good for now.

could you please post how you can do this? I have about 26 hours of having to install this thing, and really that is inaccurate because I have been installing for hours now and it has said 26 hours all this time.
This is ridiculous, SE you need to fix this thing, I preordered this game and this is really causing me to have second thoughts, where I already had some to begin with.

I explain how to do it in page 8 of this thread....
Not really sure if this will be of assistance to any of you, but I've posted the entire I guess you'd call it "downloader" to my site for use to any and all... invcluding the big ass patch file I'm seeing a lot of failures on... it's here:
Just a heads up though, the .tar archive may not be ready until about 45 minutees after I post this, seeing it was still compressing when I typed all of this out, so if you DO download the tar archive (which does extract with winrar, 7-zip, or any halfway competent extractor of your choice) and it doesnt decompress, or isn't at least a DVD+ (4'ish to 5'ish GB) in size, WAIT FOR IT.... it's probably still compressing, and contrary to what you may want to beleive, NOT broken... In the off chance it is broken, please contact me asap and i'll see about getting it re-done immediately.
Again, I hope some/all of this helps... It's the least I can do with the resources I have, if you have the disk space, we have the bandwidth, it's of no setback to us, so link away if you find the files useful.
**edited for crappy spelling, then I gave up... it's 5am.

Is the game currently under maintenance? I'm getting some lobby error timeout
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Im using firefox as my web browser "i doubt it has anything to do with it but just exp;loring all possibilities"
I have all versions of DX 9,10,11
Client is updated as far as I can see
Im running windows 7 64 crossfired 5850's with a 3.0 I7 920 processor 6 gig ram

could you please post how you can do this? I have about 26 hours of having to install this thing, and really that is inaccurate because I have been installing for hours now and it has said 26 hours all this time.
