I loved FFxi i played it for years, Final fantasy XIV had me all giddy and excited. I was in CBT from Phase 1 and ive been playing OBT. But tonight my hopes and dreams for the game came crashing down. I enjoy the mmo report and i found out tonight about somthing i did not know about. The game places a limit on how much you can gain exp per week. You get 8 hours of un interupted xp gain then 7 hours of half xp then nothing at all. The leveling system in the game is slow it will take 8 hour to get half a level to 1 level at rank 11. Just think later in the game when it will take 8 hours to get a nails length of xp. sure you can switch your jobs and it starts over but what about my main i dont want to be a glad i want to be a pugllist, if i dont feel like gathering or craftng what then do i do? The game is fun but i will not pay 13 bucks a month for a game i can only play 15 hours a week weere i actually gain somthing. Square i forgave XII i was fine with the easy and mediocre story of XIII. But this just proves that you have lost touch with how you make games and lost the connection to your loyal fans hearts because you want hardcore players to be on the same level as casual people.

Yeah this has been went over quite a bit here, they even had a sticky for posts about it:

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

if someone stands up and gives me a valid reason as to why putting a 8 hour time limit on my play time is a good idea i will find them shake their hand and come home and play this game. But as for now i see no valid reason as to why i would pay for this if they limit me.

  • xephonicsxephonics Member UncommonPosts: 672

u might find some valid points in the 33 page sticky about it

You just noticed this now?  It has been this way since Closed Beta 2.

also im just venting i grew up on final fantasy games and over the past few years they have just lost touch with their old school fans and are trying to hard to please the little s*** who found big brothers old NES and said i want this but hate that its hard and open i want a straight line to follow with a combat system were i can hit 2 buttons and win.

Takes you longer to play the whole game. Longer means more months played... which turns into more sub fee gains for SE. It's brilliant if you ask me. :D

    For SE of course.

In a money stand point but when someone with an IQ of 50 finds out that they are paying for 15 hours a week were they actually get shit done. You get 60 outa 450 hours a month to play this game if people actually pay for that they are outa their minds.

  • NadriellNadriell Member UncommonPosts: 197

This belongs in the sticky first off.

Second off, time limits on game rarely stick around, the are doing this for some illogical reason, but i am fretting it, it will be gone within the first couple months i am predicting.

Short Answer: You're an idiot and have no idea what you're talking about

Long Answer: You NEVER stop gaining XP; you merely stop gaining BONUS XP... and you're still an idiot.

    -------------------------------------------

For 8 hours you are gaining 100% BONUS XP + Regular XP

For 7 hours after the initial 8 you are gaining diminishing return values of the BONUS XP + regular XP until finally after 7 hours you lose the BONUS XP all together and only gain regular XP from that moment on.

    ----------------------------------------------

You also need to remember this does not carry over from job to job, if you spread out your playing from combat classes to crafting classes I doubt you’ll ever actually reach what is known as surplus.

Then you be a pugllist.  They are not stopping you from playing and enjoying the class.  They are just keeping you from hitting the level cap in 3 weeks.

A lot of games have system limits:

Eve Online: You do not even get credit for time played, you just level by keeping your subscription

UO:  You do not get leveled up on 98% of the times you do an action...talk about no gain there.

All the other mmo's with rest exp:  You get 50% less exp 1-2 hours after you been playing and use up your rested exp.

This has been discussed a million times since last week and for most players it will never be an issue.  It's not set to hours but thresholds and since you are meant to be playing multiple classes on your character you will 'recharge' your threshold when you switch weapons/class.  http://thisismyjoystick.com/editorials/final-fantasy-xiv-how-the-fatigue-system-really-works/

There is no time limit. (read the sticky)

You always get 100% XP all the time. There is no XP cap on any timer.

What does happen, is a rest system. You haven't played that toon for a while? You get extra XP for a while. 15 hrs a week bonus XP per character. After the bonus XP runs out, you go back to regular 100% XP.

What? in addition to force purchuse a controller to play decent, the player is limited in how much they can gain XP? Let me get this right, first I have to get a pc upgrade, then figure out which controller is best to use, then on my weekends I am only able to alocate a certain amount of xp from a limited amount of ways? To me that is worse than grind. No wait, dont tell me, all these issues are to be removed in...how long after release? Think I will wait until then and save a couple of bucks in the process.

    Actually your information is false.

8 Hours you get 100% exp, for the next 7 hours you do get diminishing returns until you get 0 EXP.  But during those 7 hours all the lost exp goes towards your bonus exp pool.  Which has no known use at this time until they release the info about it.

You are correct each class has its own timer, but your Character level exp timer is not reset by changing classes.

Have anyone here actually played this game the level cap as we know is around 50-60 but that aint for sure as for the people getting all pissy about this i just wanted to vent. It takes a long time to level up as it is. And i like getting shit done im sorry i didnt play nexon games were you can get on and spam X for 30 mins and feel like you did somthing for the day. Im someone who loves story its why i play final fantasy games, this game as i know now has a good story, BUT I CANT GET TO IT IN A TIMELY MANNER. XI had a story line and it took A LOOOONG time to get to it but i could keep playing and gaining good EXP all week. And as for people insulting me about my thoughts on this matter im very sorry mommy and daddy dropped you and gave you such a short temper and a low self esteem to were you have to flame someone on the internet a place of free speech and sharing of thots and ideas.

I ran out of Lancer experience at rank 5 and my Marauder only gets experience for every 3~ kills I do at rank 2.  Pretty much can't level any combat job.  :(

It all depends on a persons playstyle on how they use the exp limit.  Below is a very viable option that will satisty most of the player base and they will never see deminishing returns.

8 Hours per week on a Fighter/Caster class

8 Hours per week on a harvesting class

8 Hours per week on a crafting class

That would be 24 hours a week one could play without ever seeing there exp being lowered.  48 hours per week before you would even see 0 exp for all the classes.

Void is correct. After 15 hours of play, you will not be able to progress your character or class. You can only progress a different class, and the details on even this are murky.

Ok  i just watched the new MMOREPORT from G4 the people who actually go and talk to SE about it. They say that it is Account based and you dont gain ANYMORE exp after the 7 hours. Enjoy

This isn't true. I've already put in 15 hours in open beta so far and I still am gaining xp.
