Is it me or, the people here are extremely arrogant?

It is truly sickening, some of the comments I see around here as of late. Some people here really think their shit smells like roses. When someone points out the obvious flaws of the game they are quickly shot down with condenscending attitudes. When someone points out the UI being to overcomplicated and tedious, some people here shoot back saying that he/she's to casual and needs to 'go back to WoW'. I don't know if its serious or if its trolling, but it pisses me the hell off.

This happens to every game on here when they are about to release.

What you said can be turned around the other way as well. Both sides are guilty.

Yes, people are very.. passionate about their games here.  They're quite willing to tell you why you're wrong.  Then again that's the same about most things in life that others are passionate about.  Some people just aren't willing to let you have a differing opinion.  Theirs is correct.  This is extremely prevalent around launches.. but it gets out some good information, at least.  MMORPG.com is good for that.  Filter through the refuse to find the bits of information hidden within.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

You get them in all games and their related forums. FFXI and EVE being the most notable. You get people who think because they're one of the niche audience for a game, that they have more "refined taste" than the unwashed masses playing larger games.

These are the people the rest of us refer to as "elitist pricks".

They're not representative of the games themselves, and not representative of the games community as a whole ( usually ).

Internet forums = get a thicker skin.

Honestly, I find it's the complete opposite. All the haters are the arrogant ones and being extremely negative, and all over a BETA, which just floors me.

I never liked FF (none of them tbh).....also this one will pass me by.......hope the fans can enjoy it but the reviews dont look too great for FFXI.

No, I don't think people are being arrogant to suggest that FInal Fantasy XIV is a game developed for core gamers instead of casual gamers like all the others.  Neither do I think we're outside of our rights to tell the casual players who think they know MMORPGs but can't understand the appeal of Final Fantasy XIV that they've been spoiled by MMORPGs that hold their hand everywhere.  If anything, I think you're the arrogant one to assume that we're not within our rights to tell you this when it's true. You're just being a rude tourist here.

everyone knows the UI sucks though, even the people who played FFXI know the UI sucks because it sucked there also, you basically either deal with it or not, if you don't think the UI sucks then you're probably using a gamepad, but like, its cool.. even if something is a fault, doesn't mean its so horribly game breaking that you unsub, if we went over the faults in other games I don't think games would ever be played because they had faults. They will come back here though like.. saying.. "it really is a game breaking fault", well, I know the UI sucks, and I honestly don't even care that it does, if its game breaking to you then don't play the game, everyone needs to just follow their own opinions instead of somehow trying to force it on others because you want to convince the world how bad of a game FFXIV is

Really geldon, really? So are you going to deny that some of the popular criticisms of this game aren't unfounded? There must be a reason why this game's hype level dropped so dramatically.

Features that are only a small percentage of what will be included at launch. Features that can be changed over time. On top of the fact that your reasoning still doesn't mean being arrogant and extrememly negative is OK. It's not. I think I read ONE post that was negative but had a well written explanation and didn't try to browbeat fans of the game or the game developers or scream "This suxxors, I quit, SE is a joke, UI, surplus xp, fatigue, it all sucks because I says so, and my hand isn't held yet I've been crying about WoW EZ mode for 3 years nowa!" waaaaah.

I actually hope at times I do come accross as arogant or as one here said an 'elitist prick'. Under some situations that is what is needed. When some come around spreading rumors, misinformation, and lies in an attempt to downplay others enjoyment of a game, they need to be called out so everyone can make an informed choice on if they like it or not.

As an example, there are far to many who come here and say they hate the controls in FFXIV, and that they know this from thier 15-20 minutes of game play. Then they come on these forums and post thread after thread of how they know SE and FFXIV are going to fail based off thier 'informed' 15-20 minutes of game play. The reality is, in 15 minutes of gameplay you barely have enough time to discover the control setup let alone try it out long enough to make an informed anything. All you can do in 15-20 minutes is state you dont like something and your refusing to even try it any other way but yours. Unfortunately, thats not what they come here and say is it? It would be nice if they just told he truth sometimes.

So yes, at times, I hope I do sound arrogant. Call it a desire to be on the moral high ground if you like. But of course thats what my quote to the left is all about, open your mind and you might just see what I see. Everyone has a right to express thier opinions, not everyone has to like everyone elses though.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

    1. YA, RLY.

    2. Many the criticisms are founded.  The game is still quite good for its intended audience

The criticisms I've seen aren't really about how hard the gameplay is, but how needlessly tedious it functions.

Yes.  Whether you can enjoy the game has a lot to do with whether or not you're ready and willing to overcome tedium here and there.  if the idea of a game that can be tedious anywhere scares you, then you're definately not the right audience for this game.

It's a real shame that you casual gamers have the majority of the gaming industry busily beating any kind of sophistication out of games so you don't have to work when playing it, then when a game comes along that does things differently, you whine that we core/hardcore gamers are arrogant because we happen to like it.  Rude tourist is the right analogy.

No, I'm not arrogant in defending this position along these lines.  I'm desperate, and murderous.  I've got a nice cauldron of boiling oil here on the ramparts, and anyone who insists on breaching the gates to forward the agenda of the casuals is getting a taste of it.

I don't understand where you're coming from Geldon. Since when did tedium and inefficieny = more hardcore vice versa?

Basic functions shouldn't determine the complexity of the game. The general view is that the UI and general function of the game is inefficient currently.

EVE probably makes FFXI/FFXIV look like Super Mario Land when it comes to complexity. But it's UI is workable, and easy to use.

If you're going to insist that all you see in FFXIV is tedium and inefficiency, why argue with you?  You're demonstratively unable to see past your own prejudices about the game.

These sweeping generalizations merely undermine you further.  They're too much a stretch from your first line for me to even feel they have context, and even on their own they demonstrate you lack a real understanding of what a GUI brings to a game.

Hint: it's not just ease of use, or you'd have a damn entertaining spreadsheet program.  No, the magic of games is implicit in making an inconvenience entertaining.  It's very inconvenient that PacMan keeps getting eaten by those ghosts.  If only he were a little faster and the ghosts were a little slower.  If only we weren't forced to deal with a digital control, why not analogue movement?  And yet, you keep putting in quarters, to play this game that. when you pull back a bit, is merely an inconvenience simulator.  Why?  If you can understand that, then maybe you're a stop closer to understanding a core gamer's perspective.
