Really geldon, really? So are you going to deny that some of the popular criticisms of this game aren't unfounded? There must be a reason why this game's hype level dropped so dramatically.
Is this a joke or what? Hype? Maybe I'm not understanding what you are trying to say but if there is one thing SE really is lousy at it's hype and PR. At least in NA. And if you are talking about interest in the game dropping off you are way off base from all indications. Demand has apparently been so much greater than anticipated that SE added six new servers this weekend to beta bringing the total from 10 to 16. There's no indication that interest in FFXIV has dropped at all. If anything it is growing as these arguments rage, not declining.
Regardless of what the hype is, or isn't, it being a very subjective 'scale' of the popularity of a game, the beta itself is flooded, nearly all servers were full all weekend. People are playing it, either because they want to see what it's like, they want to learn it, or they're just enjoying it once they are in it. Having the proper hardware does make a significant difference in how much you might enjoy it, so the ps3 version might do better in terms of stable accounts, but I think a lot of people will be giving it at least a few months if only because there may not be good alternatives right now. I find myself jumping from mmo to mmo looking for something new and interesting and finding very little, and FF14's system is robust enough to interest me.
I am an ex-ffxi player and while the UI in that took some getting used to, in the end it did what it needed to do, and it was very different from most other mmo's so I can see how either will turn off a lot of people. I also think this game plays much better with a gamepad as opposed to keyboard/mouse which is also very different. I'm guilty of my own arrogance certainly, but I really wish that judgement wasn't passed so quickly because it's not another keyboard/mouse mmo. It's an mmo built to function on consoles as well as PCs so of course it's going to be designed differently. With FFXI i felt it really hindered the PC version but with this title, the ps3 is powerful enough to really make it look amazing. I hope it does well.
Hey, I thought this thread was about people being arrogant on these forums, when did we change over to comments on UI being bad or surplus/fatigue again? Havent' we beaten those topics into the dead horse enough? The UI is perfectly fine if you actually spend a few minutes of your time trying to learn how to use it instead of fighting it every step of the way. Stop trying to make FFXIV into whatever game you have been used to playing for the past whatever years. It is what it is, learn to use what they have, you aren't important enough of a person in real life to force SE to change it just for you!
Anyway back to the topic of people here being arrogant...
(sorry I just couldn't resist)

I disagree. You DID miss my point. As you went on to some ramblings of GUI which have NOTHING to do with what I just said. UI shouldn't determine the complexity of the game. I used EVE for an example, because it is one of the most complex MMO's of all time. But its UI is relatively simple to use, in function. The complexity, like someone else has said in this topic, comes from the gameplay itself, the learning curve, the relations that the major corporations have with eachother. The territory. The UI isn't anything to worry about.
Again: Making an inefficient UI and liking it doesn't make you any more hardcore than anyone else. Just makes you look like a neck beard.
I saw that point when you mentioned it earlier, but told you I found it had no bearing on Final Fantasy XIV [well, not "no" bearing so much as FFXIV has entertainment value regardless of the advantages these improvements could bring]. Do you really think it's that hard for me to understand that it's easier to access a massive amount of information if you have a good interface to do it in? I've been attempting to explain to you you're looking at it the wrong way.

The point that i was trying to make really wasn't about FFXIV so much as the arrogance of some of the people here.

It's unfortunate that there's such a fine line between , "yes, we heard you that the interface can use improvement, but we still like the game, stop whining at us and let us enjoy the game in peace" and, "no, the game is fine, go away peons, you simply can't understand what we enjoy about this game." It seems most people can't be bothered to discern the difference.
The human mind is an interesting thing in that it has its hangups. If you won't forgive the interface, your enjoyment potential of Final Fantasy XIV is doomed. However, you can forgive the interface, assuming you've the capacity to allow yourself.

I hear you. After all, a person who stubbornly insists you must be arrogant simply because they don't understand your frame of mind is, in practice, as arrogant as any man who ever lived was.

So I have to grin and bear it as well. This thread basically is a thread about being arrogant in the face of what is falsely perceived as arrogance. Ah, Internet forums are certainly bastions of human folley, aren't they?

I just think people here have a low tolerance for BS. After so buying and playing numerous MMO's most people in this community have developed an innate ability to sift through BS when it comes to the process of developing a MMO. You can only get burned so many times until you start educating yourself, and know what to look for, and what to avoid.
then you have the "passionate" gamers, who come in and totally berate those who have voice their opinions that could very well help the MMO genre avoid future issues when developing and releasing a MMO. those are known as fanbois, they do more harm than good to their game they are protecting, and its unfortunate.

Heaven forbid people who are passionate about games should have a valid opinion. I like to think that it's the people who are passionate about games who make games, so I guess you're screwed there. Besides, I don't think that any MMORPG developer is going to go to an Internet forum to get advice from whoever takes the time to post there on how to make their game. Not if they know what they're doing. Give them some credit, they know their interface is pretty ponderous, they're not blind.
It is truly sickening, some of the comments I see around here as of late. Some people here really think their shit smells like roses. When someone points out the obvious flaws of the game they are quickly shot down with condenscending attitudes. When someone points out the UI being to overcomplicated and tedious, some people here shoot back saying that he/she's to casual and needs to 'go back to WoW'. I don't know if its serious or if its trolling, but it pisses me the hell off.
Welcome to the internet age and generation. Well actually it not limited to the internet. In discussions this will always happen, just check political debates. It only a bit more political correct then and less rude but same difference. It is however more transparent on the internet.
Not though that this also works the other way around. If you make it know you actually like the game some people act like they have higher standards then you. Also love makes blind. Some people really love this game (or any other) and REALLY do not the see the problems you see. Some people are also simply sick and tired to seeing the same thread being made all the time and get a bit arrogant toward the OPs in those threads.

Since the servers are down at the mo I came here to get some laughs ...
And holy crap this conversation turned out to have the best "pointe" in a long time.
Rolling in on the floor laughing ... I shit you not.
Seen a lot of OB discussions and I thought Darkfall was the most intertaining...until FF where it appears to be a no bars hold on the game. I mean damn, from one extreme to the next the opinions shift to personal attacks at any momnent. I am still enjoying the "FFXIV will be the WoW killer" posts coming up and the game is not even released...go figure.
Its about personal taste's. Think of it as a food or a movie. I love pepperoni, pineapples and jalapenos on my pizza. My friends think im crazy because of that. My friends love zombie movies and I think zombie movies are completely retarded... It is what it is, a difference in taste's.
You like Keyboard and mouse function. I like complete keyboard or gamepad. I do believe that some people's approach to whether they like this game or not, is a little silly. Most of the people on these boards are fishing for a fight. They are looking for you to debate them and they are so firm in their stance of opinion that they are not willing to see the other posters thoughts. And doesnt matter if you like this game or dont, both sides are willing to be passionate about their argument. You gotta pick and choose your battles. In this case people are willing to overlook what you may find as a flaw.
I think people have forgotten that. You can disagree and I will not tell you that you are wrong. Its about what you like and this game isnt it. Im sure that the sun will still come up tomorrow regardless if people have differences about this game. Hopefully they (being MMORPG developers) build a game that everyone loves. Until that time, I will be playing games that I like and so will you. : )
I think its more of the over-exageraters & chicken littles, vs. the fanboys & diehards. The extremes always shine...
But as tired are you of people refuting obvious flaws, I am tired of people exacerbating things with the intent to belittle. I'm in the fanboy camp, so I see every negative post as the growth of a strong, happy community.

That in red is the boat I fall in, theres 3 topics that are beat to death 1) we all know UI is an issue for some people, yet the threads saying the same old stuff about UI keep coming, 2) We all know server lag is an issue, but yet it keeps cropping up over and over. 3) Fatigue XP threads keep on a flowing, yet I have never seen a thread where anyone has actually expereinced this.
After so many threads griping over the exact same issues of course peopls tones are going to change from a more helpful attituide to more of "arrogant" attitude. On the 3 issues i listed above I have disscussed them many times in an optomistic way, but now when i see it, its more arrogant, i just respond "go back to wow" or "find another game".
The tone of the OP post is also important in the responses your going to get back as well. There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Personlly I see it more like the sunday morning quarterback personallity. Everyone thinks they know better than that guy playing on that team when they see the play unfold. And of course everyone has to jump off the couch and scream it too, but nobody is there to listen to them when they do. So, they save it up until they get to work, where all the other people who know how that sports personally SHOULD have played last night can get together and scream it all again.
Thats what we have here, but instead of discussing that stupid running back who couldnt' hold that damn ball and cost the team thier game...we discuss MMORPG games on the forums in the same way. Truth be told though, none of us here are as good at making games as the people who really do, just like no 225 lb fat guy knows more about tossing a football than the multi-million dollar professional quarterback does.
EDIT: Oh and I personally see anyone who calls someone a fanboi as just another Steelers fan, and we all KNOW you can't talk ANY sense to a Pittsburg fan!

Anyways, I again i see massive potential in FFXIV. Right now it is very bare bones, but the graphics, the sound, the music, and all are very immersive. I haven't felt so tiny in an MMO in a very long time. I do feel like I'm apart of the world in XIV. Gameplay can use touch ups, but the foundation isn't a bad thing at all. Though it has a lot of flaws, and the UI is a problem, I think these things will be 'optimized' for best performance in the future. But IMO you gotta be vocal about it, or else things won't happen.
lol I think this thread is directly addressing people like ghed. People assume when people notice issues with a game it means they are haters. I just think the lag issues are horrid, and i don't think it has anything to do with the amount of people. I think it has more to do with the coding at this point. My rig is on the upper end of a mid range system and I have a 5 mbps connection and it still runs like crap. I honestly think the issue is that it isn't programmed to run with win 7 64-bit. I posted that I was getting lag issues on another thread and I must have had at least 5 people get angry at me. Because I had a valid issue with the game, which I didn't post in an angry or hateful way, I had people telling me how I was a hater and attacking me because of that. Everyone raves about the FF community being this really tight knit group but I think they are just as bad as the WoW group, While WoW has immaturity FF has hardcore elitists. I don't see this ever being resolved. Somehow people associate their ego's with the online games they play, as if their success in a video game somehow gives them an ability to troll forums and call people newbs. All I can say is that I wish they would dissapear, but until then people like Ghed do give me plenty of lawls.
wow i had no idea there are people that get so completely involved with their 15 dollar a month fantasy to the point they defend it like a family member, sad really.
the worst seems to be geldon, his talk of core gamers and casuals is laughable. who gives a shit really? its a game! if your whole life is in it then you are one pathetic waste.
its insane really, ive meet wow players and all sorts of other mmorpg players, you categorize yourselves so you can justify some stupid point nobody with any real self confidence cares about. to top it off most mmorpg players ive met are screwed up all the same way anyhow, so why categorize?
It is truly sickening, some of the comments I see around here as of late. Some people here really think their shit smells like roses. and then all these people get on here just to bitch about how they dont like a ui because blizzard didnt make it, or htey dont like controls because they arent wows setup. and o god how they hate to be challenged to debate rather then having everyone grovel and snivel around them.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
Careful. If your eyes were rolling any harder they'd fall right out of your head.
XD
Anyways, I again i see massive potential in FFXIV. Right now it is very bare bones, but the graphics, the sound, the music, and all are very immersive. I haven't felt so tiny in an MMO in a very long time. I do feel like I'm apart of the world in XIV. Gameplay can use touch ups, but the foundation isn't a bad thing at all. Though it has a lot of flaws, and the UI is a problem, I think these things will be 'optimized' for best performance in the future. But IMO you gotta be vocal about it, or else things won't happen.
FFXI had a very passionate community, too. It's what probrably kept the game going for 8+ years.
lol I think this thread is directly addressing people like ghed. All I can say is that I wish they would dissapear, but until then people like Ghed do give me plenty of lawls.
wow i had no idea there are people that get so completely involved with their 15 dollar a month fantasy to the point they defend it like a family member, sad really.
the worst seems to be geldon, his talk of core gamers and casuals is laughable. who gives a shit really? its a game! if your whole life is in it then you are one pathetic waste.
its insane really, ive meet wow players and all sorts of other mmorpg players, you categorize yourselves so you can justify some stupid point nobody with any real self confidence cares about. to top it off most mmorpg players ive met are screwed up all the same way anyhow, so why categorize?
and then all these people get on here just to bitch about how they dont like a ui because blizzard didnt make it, or htey dont like controls because they arent wows setup. and o god how they hate to be challenged to debate rather then having everyone grovel and snivel around them.
