    Torrent has nothing to do with megaUpload or direct downlaod and since the updater of SE is a torrent client or p2p, you use their torrent files so their are safe. I cannot say the same thing with open port tough.

    Even for using BitTorrent, I had to open up a few ports to improve my connection. It's safe in this case.

     

    (For those wondering while this is the subject, BitTorrent requires ports 6881 to 6889 and sometimes 6969 to 7000 (all TPC/UDP))

    Again i dont do it manually i use eset nod32 for firewall so the open port is automatic but there are close right after and this is random ports.

    Anyway in any case people do it the way they want i just do it manually i dont like that.

    Ah I only use the free version of Avast. Used to have Nod32 but not anymore. I just want to make sure people are aware that they "don't" have to use Torrent to patch if they don't want to and can simply open up the ports (which is completly safe by the way). Though they will have to use a Torrent for the patch D2010-09-05-2000 for bca2a8ae and d96437e6 patch files (It's the patch that gets stuck at 94.6%). But after that, the FFXIV updater does just fine.

    Its got some problems, but Im having more hope that they will fix them and result in a deep mmo with a beautiful world.  Keeping my preorder as well.  2 weeks to go now.

    About 30-50 hours in, I'm considering pre-ordering, so I guess that counts for something.  I probably won't be able to afford the CE on my budget, though.  Guess I'll just have to start playing 8 days later when the player economy is established enough to actually provide equipment past level 1.  Somehow, I'll cope. ;)

    Why not just double click on the file with utorrent (or aszerus or mainline or whatever)? It uses the same hash and verification that the game uses, it correctly uses upnp to open ports while you're downloading, and you pull off it about 200x faster than squares p2p client. Their updater is just a half-assed bittorrent client... the torrents are 100% compatible with any bittorrent client.

    Same.  It's also nice that I am part of a LS already on Figaro.  We've reserved our names.  We know what nations we will start at, and have decided with craftng professions to spread out.

     

    It really does make all the difference in the world when you're part of an LS that loves FF, has played FFXI, and is genuinely excited about FFXIV.  I can't wait.

    Keeping my CE pre-order as well.

    The game isn't perfect, but the more I've played, the more I've just adjusted and I find it fun.

    You can tell from OB that there is a lot, even in the starting cities, that just isn't enabled for the Open Beta. How will the player driven economy work out? Will people adjust to the fatigue system and the guild leave system? How many quests are there? Will they just follow the main storyline? Or will there be other, seperate tales to tell? How will the Guild Mark system work? Will those be seperate quests too?

    A lot of questions that won't be answered until launch, but I'm very interested to see how it all plays out.

    A note on the fatigue system. I already have four classes in the "red zone" of getting reduced skill points. I'm actually glad that the game slows down forward progress and makes you spread out your experiences, if you wish to play more than casual hours of play. There are skills from each class that can be used by the others and I've found that often, a hybridized skill bar is definitely more effective than just sticking to the skills for one class.

    As I've leveled these classes, I've accumulated a lot of crystals and other crafting mats. Next, I'll level up one or two gathering classes, try out a crafting class or two and by the time I'm done with that, it will be time to cycle back to the first class I started with. Sideways progression is not pointless busy work, it all has potential to enhance your strength at your primary role. The fatigue caps also let you "allow yourself" to enjoy other elements of the game, rather than being under some self impossed pressure to powerlevel a class to the cap through hundreds of hours of constant grinding.

    I still have no idea how long the game may hold my interest in the mid to longterm, but I do want to be along for the ride when this game launches. :)

    how much grinding did you do to hit the fatigue system i been pretty much playing non stop and have not hit it at all or have not noticed anything from it. But i do change what i'm doing often i will kill mobs a few hours look for groups for guildleves than maybe do some fishing and mining than do a bit of cooking than back to killing but this is all within the same play session. Guess the way i play the game will allow me not to get affected by the fatigue system.

    It goes down gradually. So you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it.

    When you first start a combat job for instance. You get xp every hit. Slowly you will start getting less and less. Eventually you will only get xp every other kill.

    Supposedly you would get to the point where you would gain no xp. Though I've always switched jobs before that point.
